The online racing simulator
LFS [DX9] on different operating systems
Made some graphs

BLUE - Windows XP SP3 32-bit

ORANGE - Windows 7 SP1 64-bit

FIRST TEST
1 AI, 1 lap race XFG@BL1, 1080p, everything maxed, full screen, cockpit view

Average FPS XP : 163.68
Average CPU XP : 37.01 %

Average FPS 7 : 141.94
Average CPU 7 : 15.44 %

Slightly higher FPS on XP, while on the other end XP use much more CPU.
CPU is sampled each second, so it looks kinda funny but it should give overall feel.

SECOND TEST
32 AI (spectating first car), 1 lap race XFG@BL1, 1080p, everything maxed, full screen, cockpit view

Average FPS XP : 121.21
Average CPU XP : 47.35 %

Average FPS 7 : 95.72
Average CPU 7 : 46.60 %

FPS become much better on XP.

THIRD TEST
32 AI (spectating last car), 1 lap race XFG@BL1, 1080p, everything maxed, full screen, cockpit view

Average FPS XP : 76.74
Average CPU XP : 56.4 %

Average FPS 7 : 58.07
Average CPU 7 : 52.97 %

In this test XP still has higher FPS, but there are some significant drops.

HARDWARE:
  • Intel G3420

What are you system specs?
Good point. Added it now to end of first post
32 AI? how? with the Patch Z trick?
In this connection that the scrolls my hands a little hardware - such regularity noticed that:

1. Change in the LFS with LFS 0.6E DX8 to LFS 0.6F DX9 (not LFS 0.6F2 and above) gives increase of about 25% on Windows 7 but only for nVidia cards, cards, AMD / Ati - performance is similar to the DX8 and DX9.

Do you also have such experience?

Regards
I got 20% improvement on my 4 years old AMD card.
Quote from Whiskey :I got 20% improvement on my 4 years old AMD card.

I'm talking about the change from version 0.6E (DX8) to 0.6F (DX9). Version 0.6F2-F8 uses "New car shaders give higher frame rate when many cars on screen," and then there is increment on both.

My different 0.6E (DX8) - 0.6F8 (DX9 + New Car Shaders) improvement 42%

DANIEL, can you also add to your bench a test with the lastest test patch ? It could be nice to really see the difference
I'm on test patch F2 and I went from about 120 fps differencing between fps drops and a bit higher, to solid 350-400 fps.
Does W8.1 count as W7 or would it give rather different results?
Windows 8.1 gives better results in theory.

I measure improvements on both AMD and nVidia. Guess its more to the part of hardware you are bottlenecked. If your GPU is much slower than CPU you will probably notice improvements, otherwise not really.

Latest test patch has a bug (no AF on cars) which could possibly make your FPS a bit higher. So in reality graphics settings wont be the same. I could force AF through the drivers ... Just did a small tests, it looks like FPS is much higher if I force it in drivers in both version
Will try to find source code in next few days, kinda cannot find ATM

In reality I measure about 10% lower FPS on Windows 8.1 than Windows 7
