Is the 5750 worth it?
Im currently choosing between a 250 GTS & 5750.
Now the 5750 beats the 250 in most games & is a better card imo.

But, & this is a big but, is it worth £20-25 more than the 250?

I have (had before i got my gtx460) a 5750, which i got for like €140 some months ago, i did the same thing as u. Decided between a GTS250 and the 5750. Tho i choose the 5750 cause it has DX11-support and its alot faster in-game. Try and find some reviews and get your own opinion about it.

But if I had to choose again, i would still get the 5750

Hope it helps.

youtube reviews seems be be very good for comparisons. give that a try. pricecheck the 250 against the 460. the 250 is not dx11 so you might fall behind quick in terms of gaming. the 470 is also a very good card. one of my best purchases this year.
.
not a bump but i did have one of those eureka moments

The 5750 is a popular zero-noise chip since it is very energy-efficient. Multiple brands to chose from for what effectively is the same (semi-)passively cooled card, if you can provide reasonable air-flow in-case.

A bit more punch can be had with a HD5770, yet no cost-effective fan-less option.

Full-speed DX11 won't be available on a single HD57xx, though. If full *bling* is what you demand, pass on the current line up of DX11 cards, altogether!

I own a HD5770 (the excellently quiet "Hawk"-model from MSI; it still keeps a very low profile, unless a much more modern game than LFS is run). I paid a small premium for the stock-provided lack of noise and still would do it again!.

Came from a 7600GT; this thing is now up to 4 times the combined perception of per-pixel quality and frames/second.

My quote is: TDU (the first one) @ 1920x1200 @ max details @ 4xAA @ 16xAF on a Phenom II 955 @ 60+ (f/s) (V-sync on)

edit: for a passive HD5750, check out PowerColor (standard-layout or "go-green") or even folks like Gigabyte and MSI.
If you want maximum functionality on GNU/Linux AND/OR can live with more noise, I'd advise for the lower-spec nvidia route, though. Had some minor issues with ZR24W on DisplayPort connection.
On second thought: For a triple monitor setup I'd still go for the 57xx series / be aware that you will lose classic TV-out (analogue) connection compared to earlier models. I don't exactly know if the VGA-output can be adapted, though. Might still be an option.
yes,

I have both cards, the Nvidia GTS 250 1GB and the ATI 5750 1GB. I have used both of them in this system

PCIE 2.0 X16 SLOT (ATI 5750 or GTS 250)
Intle Quad Core Q8300 @2.5Ghz
4GB Ram
640GB SATA hard drive
PCIE 2.0 X16 SLOT

I have run many benchmarks, and basicly what it come down to is preference. If your into hard core physics games such as crysis, your best bet is to go with the GTS 250, because of physX. (but in truth I never realy notice the difference between the cards)

However physics are being ported and currently are part of ATI drivers. But nvida are ahead with this feature at the moment.

Crysis GPU Benchmark: @DX10 VeryHighSpec HDR 1680 x 1050 NOAA

Above system with ATI 5750: Avg 20.98 FPS Min: 18.89 FPS Max: 42.71 FPS

Above system with GTS 250: Avg 24.56 FPS Min: 14.34 FPS Max: 39.20 FPS

Some interesting benchmarks there.

The ATI 5750 also has support for DX11 witch is good for the future, Dirt 2 looks amazing!! The ATI 5750 can be overcloked much better than the GTS 250 witch is a bonus for me but may not be for others. It also has slightly higher clocks all round at default.

Both Card Specifications here:
GTS 250 http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gts_250_us.html
ATI 5750 http://www.amd.com/us/products ... -5750-specifications.aspx

Dirt 2 benchmark: @DX11 Ultra settings 1680 x 1050 4XAA

Above system with ATI 5750: Avg 36 FPS

I didn't bother doing the GTS 250 because its not DX11 compatible and It wouldn't have been fair.

Both cards are priced the same, so there's no need to worry there. You cant go wrong and wont be disappointed with ether of the cards just take the plunge and go with one.
I personally would go with the 5750, because of higher overclocking potential and better future support + its economical compared to the GTS 250.

Sorry about the bad grammar and spelling
