Help please cpu showing wrong speed??
Hi i have just put together a new machine for myself and am having a slight problem. I have a AMD athlon 64 x2 4800+ socket am2 but its only showing up in system properties as a 3800+. Is this right? or have i missed something out i really would like to get this sorted so i aint losing any cpu power.

System spec is
4800+ am2 athlon 64 x2
Asus M2NS-NVM/S motherboard
2 gig ddr2
asus nvidia geforce 7600 gt

Not bad for £50 So please can somebody help me get this running properly thanks

Could be underclocking itself when it's not under load to save energy. Download CPU-Z and see what it says when the PC is idle. Then stress the PC (open LFS windows for example) and look at the clock speed. If it has been underclocking itself when idle it'll go back to normal speed when you stress it. My Q9450 sits at 2.4GHz idle and up to 3.2GHz under load, it's nothing wrong.
Try updating BIOS, sounds like current version does not support your CPU and fails to identify it.
Try updating the bios; you also might need to change the CPU Multiplier in the bios screen.
