Random Dropping off Server
Hi there,

Only on CTRA does it Disconnect from the Host? I dont really get lag and is costing me rather a lot of points plus non finishes! Can anyone advise and help me please?

Thanks

Andy
Yep, i've been getting this a lot recently as well... a few days ago an entire server bar one person was disconnected. Plus I often see others now timing out infront and disappearing when for the rest of the race their latency was fine.
Same here... it's pretty annoying, especially when it happens after you've just driven a new pole time

I don't have any answers at the moment, I'm afraid. There are no issues physically on the server, and by and large there are no networking issues to be found. We do appear to be suffering some hardware issues in the UK in general at the moment, causing some odd routing, but I can't say how severe they are or how likely they are to be causing the problems you're experiencing.

I'll keep my eye on the hardware, and my ear to the ground. If I have any good ideas, I'll be sure to let you guys know.
Just happened again. last 5 mins has been laggy as hell and 80% of drivers discoing several times from SS3
Sam, what sort of network diags would be useful? Trace routes, pings times? Is there anything in LFS that allows for the production of a verbose trace which might contain details of network issues?
its called stop downloading pr0n
I just had this problem again, twice in 30 seconds. Everyone from my perspective is lagging, then I get disconnected... I tried again and by the time I left the pits everyone was lagging and I disconnected. This was on Race 3 at 8:10pm UK time. No porn or other big downloads going on, testing my connection to serveral internet services and all is working fine...
in some way... i think it may be related to the master server... I'm going out on a limb here but it's from what i have experienced....

I was on one server with a group of people while another group was on another server. We were all talking in Ventrilo...

All of a sudden the server I was on started to lag, everyone disappeared and the "LAG (x.xxsec)" appeared above all the cars other then my own. Then, the SAME thing happened on the other server simultaneously... these servers were in totally different continents (UK and Canada)... At the same time I lagged out from the server I was playing on, the other guys lagged out of the server they were playing on. When we returned to the servers... there were still a few people connected. Which leads me to believe that there are no connection issues with the server itself... but rather something that is causing the Master Server to hiccup for enough time to cause an issue...

You saying the master server is downloading Pron?
More likely a router going down or work being done in a datacentre somewhere. Everyone routing through it being given the boot. Despite the 'size' of the internet, you'd be suprised just how small it really is, on ocassion. It's not like ever LFS 'server' is a physical machine, most LFS servers are actually hosted on the same half a dozen or so physical machines...
