Make sure you're sat in the car then press escape.

OPTIONS > VIEW > Custom

Then move the slidders around to get the camera in the correct position. Also make sure you turn things on like the wheel, body, driver and stuff.

This way you can see what position the camera is.

not sure, but i think you have to play with the x, y, and z views in options...
