Reminds me of a story my father told me when either my brother or I was born. I might have this slightly wrong but anyway, here goes:

He had stopped drinking for a few weeks so he would be able to drive my mother to the hospital on a moment's notice. So, when she finally gave birth and everyone got back to the house, it was morning, and he just sat on the front steps of the house and cracked open a beer. He said people gave him really strange looks as they walked by on their way to the local train station to go to work.
