Networking Problem
Hello...
I have a problem to connect to other hosts ,who are not in
my network part... i have a Linux Debian router whitch routes
all packages between the networks...
My network part has the IP: 192.168.1.X
and the other part (highscool) 149.205.212.X
and if i try to connect, LFS runs a message that means it cant
connect, but that iss worng...
The game doesnt try to connect... the game checks the IP range and
give out an Error...
With other games, i can play about the Router and the Ports are free...
can anybody help me?
How can i ask developer if they can fix the "bug" (it isn´t a bug i know...)
in source code?
or can i set a specify const to solve the problem?
thanks for trying to help me...
You can only use the "local network" option (join to specified ip address) to connect, if you are in the same local network as the host.

To join to a host on another network, in S2 mode, it must be "internet" or "hidden" and you can connect by name, or by the in game server list.
Thank you very much Scawen for trying help me...
I think there iss no other game / project (up to GPL/GNU) where you can directly
write with Developers...
thats nice!
Sorry... but i my problem isn´t solved...
I cant connect to Local LAN because of the different IP ranges...
(my private range and the highscool range, where iss the other people
who want to play with me...)
I also cant connect to internet to solve the problem on this way...
because there iss no way to connect to master server because
of the ports to internet that blocked by highscool server...
Only way to play is the network and this doesn´t run...
Is there any chance to change the IP check system before try
to connect?
If you want... i can try to help a little bit with a new "IP-check"
method/function, if you sent me requirements for this method/function...
thanks...
This sort of thing usually boils down to the fact, that probably your school doesnt want you playing games on their networks! (just guessing, its the usual story).

Although I have mentioned before the trivial IP checking is a bit of a pain, as people do not always use 192 or 172 networks for their private networks, also APIPA isnt catered for (169 addys).

Dont know if Scawen can figure out another way of checking "private" network...
The scool block these ports only because of traffic limit...
The student hostel network (where i live...) is connected to
highscool network but they do not have anything against playing
games or so...
It is privately using of network!
What kind of IP range for private networks is to use else ButterTyres?
Is that a joke?
LFS allows you to connect using the "local network" button, if your local network uses one of the ip address ranges that are reserved for local networks.

http://www.nthelp.com/40/ip.htm

If it wasn't restricted, then users of hacked versions could happily race over the internet. I don't know of any other way to check if you are on a local network. Someone suggested making sure the first three numbers of the IP address are the same as your own - but that could just mean you are using the same ISP as the other person.

If people set up local networks using the special reserved IP address ranges then there's no problem.
