Renders
As with the PM to the team leaders taking part in this series requesting an image of an XFG render, if anyone is unable to do them then give me a shout and i'll do whichever are required *at that time*.

So, if anyone needs an XFG render you can either email me the skin for the render or attach it here.

Its not an open invitation to ask for random renders, however while im doing the mercury one its only 5-10min to do each additional one, so i can manage that, however as im already pretty busy with another LFS related project (as well as paid work i keep putting to one side) i'll only be doing the renders required for BOTT, I've only rendered 2 cars to date anyway, and my priorities would be to do them for Mercury first if i had the time.

I did knock out a 3000x1000 render the other night while watching a bit of TV before bed, 58min in total, BOTT renders would be smaller versions of this:
http://www.mercuryracingteam.c ... ders/2x_XFG_v2_huuuge.jpg

If someone (ie Arrow) could confirm a filesize for the render it'd save me doing more or less than is actually required for these.
As soon as i find out how to have 2 identical models with unique skins (currently its the same item with same properties appearing twice) then i can do each driver for that round, or i can do a blank number/name-less skinned render.

hmm, i did a thumbnail but it makes no difference because we cant show images anyway, pffft.

These are uncompressed 24-bit png's so might want to do a little compression depending on what they're being used for. Wallpapers are fine, website front page might want some compression to speed it up etc.

i'll do future renders at 900x300 unless Arrow or whoever suggests otherwise, that took 5min, 15x5 takes 15min until my new CPU arrives, if theres a decent improvement then i'll do 15x5 for everyone incl those ive already done.

I'll offer my services as I've done some rendering. Should speed things up and help Paul out as it's just time consuming more than anything and I'm happy to share to some cpu cylces.
oh man, renders look awesome

here's mine so u can take a look

Spent most of the night rendering and now cant sleep

Mostly just playing, thanks to Sidi i now know how to give replicated models there own material properties, so they're not sharing the same info any more

Here's 2 i did just playing with multiple skins:

Then i figured how to get away from white backgrounds, they're not very flattering to cars with quite a bit of white in them especially with reflections it tends to make it hard to see edges IMO.

Sorry they're not compressed, 400, 400 and 200kb a peice. Nothing stunning i know, but i always enjoy learning new things. I have too many fingers in too many pies, never really sit down and learn 1 thing fully, always looking for something new to interest me

Arrow: Is there any chance of a psd of the BOTT logo?

Here's a test render I've whipped up. Mind the dodgy skin its just an example. Once the scene is set up its just a matter of changing skins and rendering. Ideas on how to improve the scene are welcome. I'm already changing the reflective floor, don't really like the look of this one.

So what´s this thread about? Does BOTT require renders or are Paul and Davo just in a good mood and offer to do the rest of the teams some renders or...? Just in case I´ll do what Loco and Thomm did and attach a [noobs] skin.

is there a special program you lot use to make those, if so what is it, id like too have a play too.
3D Studio Max, im sure theres plenty of alternatives but it would appear to be the most supported in this community which certainly saves you from manually kinda putting the models together from lots of peices. I never got very far with the tutorial telling me how to get to what DS Autos & Morrow Designs have produced for the community, where you pretty much have the car ready to apply the skin and render it.

Kalev: The team leaders were PM'd to ask if they could provide info about the teams for the series, in there was the request for a logo and XFG render (or a CMX viewer pic if render wasnt possible) so i guess were just offering to help out
Im very new to it all, just figuring out how to do the simple stuff, having a bit of fun at the same time etc.
Keeps saying 'can't find the server' when trying to open your urls Paul.
The same go's for the Boobies Squad homepage :weeping:
Oh.. I haven´t received or heard anything about a PM.

No idea, but I do know what the boobies squad is
Thanks mate, that looks stunning![/quote]

Idd it does, and urls work again!
I havent a clue whats going on with the server at the moment, but its definately flapping about, up, down, up, down... its getting on my tats!

I've just had it all off Viper, and as i've said to him, we'll be moving to a new server in the not too distant future. Despite having a couple of hosting areas of my own the Mercury site is actually located on a server for a company i work for, and we've discussed its just not good enough for there business so we'll either split costs on a dedicated web server and tear it up or go VPS for a few months, eitherway we need better site stability and that cant really be guaranteed when your on a server with any given number of websites and visitors within each, bringing down your sites, even if you only get 1-2 visitors a day, they're sharing the access of that server with thousands of others.
Well, as if the Mercury webserver playing up wasnt enough, from 23:30 to 6:30 yesterday my internet went down, it popped up twice for no more than 2min total time, not impressed in the slightest when i work through the night, so instead as i had nothing i could work on without internet access i just did some huge renders for the sake of it.

Heres the other renders which i'd finished around 10:30 last night but the net went down while on the phone to my bro sorting out CPU's to order for me and bits for his build, so here it is:

http://mercuryracingteam.com/images/events/BOTT/renders/xfg/

In there are single car images as requested for BOTT @ 800x600 and also a 900x300 dual car pic the same as i did for [elite] a couple of days ago.

So thats 1st, Elite and [noobs] covered (as well as mercury)

I really liked the MG FZR render by Morrow and I tried to imitate it, I think I failed.

thanks mate

got the program and had a play today, looks very complicated LOL

just need to find a tutorial on how to do it now

As long as you get the pre made scenes from ds autos and morrow its mcu easier than it looks. Modelling is the hard bit but we'll have none of that thanks, only rendering.

Hehehehe, i know the morrow one is very nice but yours is not so far off it :o Thanks (il have to resend the render to arrow now haha)
