It is known that the security updates will end 14th of October for win10.

I am not willing to casually transition to the new standard, maybe not so important on the reasons why, there is the LTSC version which will receive updates (security, not features) until 2032

Has anyone been this stubborn?
What can we expect from keeping up with an "old" version of win10? Just wait for OTA updates like now in "normal" win10 ?

Seamless transition where every new game/app/etc until 2032, that says supports win11, can we expect to work as well on LTSC? ("work as well" meaning if there aren't any major architecture or DirectX changes that causes incompatibilities. Not focusing on which will have the best performance)... Haven't seen many discussing this, what are your thoughts?

Win11 kills my VR headset so I'm staying on Win10 for the foreseeable future.

I'm also not willing to upgrade my gaming win10 PC from 2018, that still works perfectly fine and runs lfs maxed out without any sweat.

I'm seriously considering linux mint, but I'll probably try it on my old laptop from 2014 first and then decide what to do.

Considering all this TPM 2.0 bs and more shenanigans, I'm now convinced that microsoft is an evil company. Ever since they made a fkup with onedrive that caused a huge file deletion and duplicate mess with my very important work files, which I have accumulated durrring the past 8 years.

I see no reason not to upgrade unless something is broken for some weird reason. I've got all my devices on W11 for years now, all running perfectly smooth.

Ah, I see that maybe there might be a misunderstanding. What I meant to say is that my gaming PC does not support Windows 11 due to TPM 2.0 and I'm not willing to upgrade its hardware just so I could install Windows 11 on it. On other computers that support it, I ofc have Win11, but those I only use for work stuff as they don't have good graphics cards.

Can't you add a TPM 2.0 module?

I am not saying these features cant be turned off, just that "if it aint broke, dont fix it"
If win10 keeps chugging with new games, I believe with a decent internet hygiene you can be safe

What are you doing on W10? Why not still use W8 or W7 or XP? Same old story with every new version.

Both links to your big 'concerns' are the same feature which simply can be turned off/not used. So no problem.

I wish this was the case, but as far as I know it's an inbuilt hardware feature of a modern cpu and motherboards. It can't be added without changing these two core parts of a PC. It basicaly means changing the entire PC, since you also need new ram, then comes new gpu, then most probably also new psu and a new pc case.

If one's lucky, he could get away with a minimal change that is cpu, mb and ram, while reusing everything else. Then later on, one could upgrade the rest..

Question: have you considered that Extended Security Updates (ESU) program, that should become available this fall? With that, you would get security updates to your Windows 10 for one more year. Costs 30 dollars for consumers.

I too have Windows 10, and I quite likely will buy those security updates for one more year before even considering buying a new computer or updating to Windows 11 (if I can even update it as there is a chance that my too old computer doesn't even meet the minimum requirements to update it into Windows 11)
