my box only plays LFS and L4D, and it's bored. I already have the sim-stick and was actually on the market for a force-feedback one. Mine is a cheap-ass logitech entry level thingie.

My favorite flying sims was Red baron and F29 Retaliator back in the day. I have since only really played MS combat flight sim. Never really tried the IL series.

Stanley died in a fire and his body was burned pretty badly.

The morgue needed someone to identify the body, so they sent for his two best friends, Cooter and Gomer.

The three men had always done everything together.

Cooter arrived first, and when the mortician pulled back the sheet,

Cooter said, 'Yup, his face is burned up pretty bad. You better roll him over.'

The mortician rolled him over and Cooter said, 'Nope, ain't Stanley '

The mortician thought this was rather strange.

So he brought Gomer in to confirm the identity of the body.

Gomer looked at the body and said, 'Yup, he's pretty well burnt up.

Roll him over..'

The mortician rolled him over and Gomer said, 'No, it ain't Stanley '

The mortician asked, 'How can you tell?'

Gomer said, 'Well, Stanley had two a**holes.'

'What? He had two a**holes?' asked the mortician.

'Yup, we never seen 'em, but everybody used to say:

'There's Stanley with them two a**holes.'
Bringing back the Swain servers

I've neglected the LFS community for well over a year and me and a friend os now thinking of giving something back, again.

The Servers Without An Interesting Name has been offline for a great while - and i'm looking for some help to bring them back.

A few questions:

1) Do you know if a donation based server hosting service exists? Where the monthly payment (and nothing more) is covered by donations. Neither I or the hosting company should have any extra profit, and therefor only accept donations until X -amount of months have been paid.

2) Are there any good/secure/tested way of letting certain people upload CFG-files to the server, and thereby opening the server to the community even more?

3) Could somebody maybe help me (if a hosting solution is found) - To make a web-based voting solution which could allow racers to choose which 15-20 servers should be online?

Any comments is welcome - I/we might just end up renting a server and giving it to the community the best way possible. But a shared, non-profit, non-cost (except time) would be a first choice.

Kind regards, Lurendrejer.

Hey.

Try renaming the docX file to .zip, and unpack the contents. Check if there are anything there that could help you to rewrite the whole thing faster.

You will see a pictures folder, a XML-folder, and a text-folder.

Docx is just a zip-container for the OOxml formatet XML-document.

I haven't followed LFS progress for the last year or so, but, has autoupdate for dedicated servers been implementet or is it planned? Just checked my swain servers this morning, and had to update them from u30 to x9 before i could even join.

Well, we all know about google'ing for "miserable failures" and laughing at the first two hits. Do anyone else have some other google jokes?

Quote from Colt98 :It´s a nice server and a good layout, but keeping the same layout for more than half a year (don´t know exactly how long it the server is up now) becomes boring. Some new layouts woudn´t be bad.

Again - look at my post above. If someone could come up with a way to delegate server control and allow layout oploading etc. (also asked in hosts forum) - this could be done in a few seconds.

ATM. It goes like this; Servers are up and running, until something: lfs-bug, diskcrash, whatever happens. Then, they won't be up for a long time. I don't admin the servers, i don't attend any lfs-servers in any way, i don't play LFS at all. Actually, i don't play at all.

I would still like to donate my servers to the LFS-community, but so far, this hasn't been possible. mostly because of the communitys complete lack of helping hands.

Either, the servers will keep running with the same lyt's etc - or, somebody else has to step up. But first, i need some way to allow setup-changes, lyt uploading, etc. Without just giving away the admin password for the Win2k3 server. 100Servers etc. have their own in house developed admin-proggy. I can't provide that myself, i'm only ONE person.

again, HELP!
Admins?

Would some of you consider my proposal in this thread? > http://www.lfsforum.net/showth ... =2&highlight=fed+pick

Meaning; Admin'ing the servers. I don't have time myself, so i'm looking for mature admins to help me out.

Quote from filur :A server getting stuck in that state is probably a bug, more or less. The fact that you can't change your own "state" while a player is connecting is more a case of slightly poor design.

slightly?

Delegating control of servers
lurendrejer

What is the smartes way to delegate control of servers? I want admins to be able to upload new cfg's / layouts / etc. and running them. Without giving them full server access. I have a few ideas myself. (ftp/dav-access and some little script that detects newly uploaded LFS-folders, and runs start.bat)

What would you do? Have someone made a web-based hosting solution? (asp and NOT php) - question? question? question? help??

/regards, JH

ps. I don't want to put 500servers out of business, i just want to support LFS as a project (yes, i do hate EA).

do you mean that? i'm actually a bit tired of admin'ing all of my servers. Since i don't have a lot of time. Maybe you could get the password for three servers each.

If somebody with admin-experience, and an age over 20 wants to take over - try PM'ing me.

//Edit
oh - the patch22-post has changed a bit, but i'm pretty sure the old 22-post-describtion-thing mentioned victors script. Maybe i just red something wrong. (red? read? vredt? :S)

in addition, does anyone here have a AutoX script? that handles player-queues etc? the new autoX-server often ends up being a little bit chaotic.
