When you press the turn left or right keys... the wheels straighten themselves as you let go. I think its a form of centering while using the keyboard, as it's disabled when using the wheel.

Never been able to stay in that genre... sure I loved Diablo1 and lets say Crusader but I never got into any of the others like warcraft and maybe empire earth. Today if I cannot see the horizon(1st person shooter style), I won't really bother.

These genres provided some fun for me back in the days when computers couldn't simulate real world environments like they can today. Sad though... Diablo was a game for me which ended up blowing away my expectations at the time.

I think you guys are missing the point of this [FREE GAME]. I'm not so sure the developers were going for an all out simulation here. I'de be very surprised if their main goal was realism and not just a fun alternative from everyday Sims(which tend to be alot more demanding and less about the fun and visual factors). Its fairly evident by the keyboard controls that this game is extremely "acrade" friendly. Kind of reminds me of the Toca Touring or V8 Supercars series, the feel and even the handling.

If your gonna play it, play it for what it is... a free, fun, multiplayer arcade type racer for the average joe. You dont have to have a wheel or be a everyday hardcore realism simmer to enjoy it and just have some fun.

I myself own LFS s2, Rfactor, GPL etc as I keep to my norm of loving realism in all its simulation glory and have now for over 15 years still looking for the "White Whale". That said, Ive already had countless games at Uni with friends(who arent as sim crazy) in class over the wireless network there. The Lan also worked flawlesly. My point being when I had LFS installed on my friends laptops, we barely ever played it as much as we do this. Usually they'd giveup on LFS after trying to make a couple of laps[understandably I made it look easy as compared to them with no knowledge of the sim].

I can also state that the immediate gripes my friends had with the game related to, no damage(which faded quicly) and not enough tracks or cars. Which they quickly reinterated... still better then that other game you had. Ofcourse they are more then happy to play an arcade game... right now for what it is and what it provides... so am I.

Just incase anyone got the wrong idea, im not saying this game is better then LFS, or something. I still have LFS on my laptop ofcourse but I play it personally and use DS2 for multiplayer with friends.

If your calling me brainless, I would advise you gather yourself and have a seat. I already tried to state why I believe removing blips was not a good move. Since many more think it was the best move of all time, that's great! Now how about letting those who think its not speak their mind without ridicule? No way... cause there are too many whiney drifter newbs in here? Right... RIGHT?

Honestly guys saying you don't like something that's changed doesn't mean you hate the overall sim. Just let some people vent and lay out their opinions without attacking their credibility just because you might believe they are brain dead monkeys from space.

Realistic damage is a must and should be alot more impressive then it is at the moment... anything to make life harder on people who kamikazi crash at T1 would be good. Running over debri and such should shear tyres and full bodywork(eg.broken wing) should damage bodywork and wings atleast.(Rogue bouncing tyre should kill on impact )

Soon we'll need to look at the temperature in the cockpit, as in real life, and adjust the amount of fluid the (virtual)driver would need during the hotter races.

Love how somethings are questionable when they would affect others even if they meet the requirements to exactly what LFS is all about. Anything more REAL TO LIFE is the aim of LFS so an ALL OUT damage model is needed. Lets seperate the men from the metrosexuals and the boys.

Just tried it with auto-clutch as I had been using manual all this time... why anyone would tell me to use auto clutch I can't understand, as I didn't see a difference with either auto/man while driving but really I don't care anymore. I've given up and joined the ban wagon of obnoxious users who just shout, "shut up and live with it or piss off".

I have not used any aids since the day I turned off wheelspin control in Gp2 years ago... I don't believe in them, I like to learn the hard way. I'll try auto clutch tonite and see if its the same as before, thanks.

Holy XXXX... I played rf more then LFS this week , someone please shoot me in the FACE!

Before I get bashed, I'm not saying I don't like it, ofcourse it is going by "LFS LAW" which is to make the game as real to life as possible but when your simulating something that isn't even there to begin with( no clutch pedal here ) just makes life kinda fake. "Don't worry just pretend it's there like we all have to", will have to suffice for now, I guess.

What I believe would have been better for everyone though, was to leave the auto-blip/lift options and make them standard to certain servers unless chosen by the host to disable for the more important factor of realism. This way you would balance the amount of "sequential" users to "H-patt" users through servers and choose your selection by what hardware you happen to own at the time. So you will be able to drive the sim, to its full potential.

Am I to understand that LFS is to be played "only" with full 3 set pedals now for optimal sim play? And doesn't fully support any set of wheels without a clutch pedal as "optimal" for the game? Before patch Y my momo logitech(red) was more then I could wish for. Seems now the lack of a 3rd pedal will force me to buy 3 pedal set only for LFS.

I'm not complaining, I guess I knew this day would eventually come but I didn't think it would be so abrupt and so "cold shoulder" as to what LFS was, just a few weeks ago.

Anyone know a good 3 pedal set? Not the wheel just the pedals... better start looking I guess.

I also have a Logitech Momo(red) sequential. Since patch Y using a button for clutch is about as gay as Tom Jones in a tootoo. I didn't expect this day to come to be honest because the options for blip & lift have always been there and is all that is really needed for people with sequential wheels(without a clutch pedal) to keep racing at their full potential. I would really find it hard to believe any vehicle fitted with a sequential gear shifter would need significant lift or blip from the driver anyway?

I'm sure the clutch mechanism for H padders and sequential can be compromised, instead of forcing everyone into buying a H pad.

Please understand I want this to be as REALISTIC as possible like everyone else here, I'm sure. But a balance would be greatly appreciated from the lesser ones like me who can't live the FULL SIMULATION DREAM.

I think the sequential shifters have been singled out here... I mean what's the point of having a paddle shifter if you have to lift for upshifts, a simple option for up-blip is all that was needed to calm the quarrel but it was removed. I was planning on getting a H pattern soon but I didn't want to be forced into doing so.

Quote :yeah i found it after finding "Racer" (is that even still being worked on anymore?) haven't looked back

What a coinsidence... I had just ended my Racer fetish when I found LFS. Ofcourse LFS is wholly better in all terms, as Racer is open source for the community to mod, if Im not mistaken.

I remember a Subaru WRX rally version and a track called Alpine Stroll or something similar absolutely shocked me when I tried it... it was bloody awesome for back then!

Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsport, in other words it is the perfect road machine... it's barely comparable to a vehicle. All the worlds cars are merely pieces of what Formula One has began. I have loved F1 since 1988 and I was only 6 years old at the time. When I grew older I wanted to know so much more about the history and oldschool drivers, so I researched.

F1 is like technology it may be upgraded, faster, lookbetter and be more efficient, yet it may not be as fun to watch/drive... check out some pre 1980,70 races and you will see exactly what I mean That's why i agree on taking ALL AIDS away from F1 and making the driver once again the difference.

I think you missed my point completely... as much as my comp can do is my own situation and everyones is different. I didn't say the graphics aren't good, I said that they don't look anywhere near as good as yours at the lower levels of dx on my pc. I know I need to upgrade... but at the moment for me if it's just for RF, I will be patient and wait.
Quote :The graphics look great and I'm sure they are more sophisticated then LFS at the moment but I've seen some shots of RBR and LFS that sit pretty equal with that

Does anyone know roughly what amount of money we are talking about to license a track? I have no idea?

It looks like you must be running RF at full details all around, must have a nice rig. The graphics look great and I'm sure they are more sophisticated then LFS at the moment but I've seen some shots of RBR and LFS that sit pretty equal with that and don't forget how long they have been out. I was dissapointed to find I couldn't run RF with dx9 gfx because my gfxcard(GF4ti4600) didn't support it or something. It was wierd because in RBR and LFS and even in F1c and GTR, I never had framerate problems (60+ fps). As soon as I put the gfx up abit in RF it would eat away at fps(25-30+) and make driving so much harder. I updated drivers dropped to 800*600 and even tried going to dx7... which just made the game look like crap.

I prematuraly bought the game because I used to race in a league that was changing to it the next year. I should have waited and been smart but I wanted to get as much practise in and get the feel of the game just as everyone else would at the time. I drove in a Formula1 league so the first car I jumped into was the F1is and I was appauled... to say the least. I even tried selling the game but had no luck at the time. I calmed down after the PCC mod came out but only for a short while... sure the cars looked great but did they drive like porsches? Real porsches? I think not. And then the next build up came in the form of the F3 Euro mod. Ok I will explain why after this point I gave up on RF till some major changes take place or atleast I hear that some new mod has exceeded the games expectations. Every car felt the same... the PCC the F1 and the F3 all had the same driving characteristics. It almost felt like if I was driving a car in RF, it wouldn't matter which one it is, it will "feel" the same as any other.

I'm an avid LFS supporter and only because I believe it's physics and forcefeedback are superior to RF in everyway. Just as many have mentioned before... LFS was stuck on me after my first ever lap. If Rf had done that for me from the beggining, I wouldn't be a skeptic now. And yes if anyone wants to add the "you didn't edit this ini or that plr or this whatever"... believe me I did and it wasn't worth the bother(for me anyway).

I know Rubens Barrichello used to do laps on Grand Prix 2 before he jumped into his Jordan back in the days. On the 1996 review, there is a scene with Rubens playing Gp2 and he explains he does it before he drives the track in real life to refresh his memory. Anyone with the review will know.

If it's in RF, then I would guess it drives like the other F1 they had... not my cup of tea.

Real cars... not fiction ones. Not really fussy about what cars because now we have a Formula 1 in LFS (who needs a road car if u can zip off in your own F1!)[Just kidding hardtopper freaks].

Having seen the McLarenF1 review on Top gear with Tiff driving... I would have to agree on that one. Also rally, drag(1/4 mile muscle freaks) and anything else that races, or is a supercar Thumbs up

I must admit when I bought LFS... I too was a little foolish and jumped to conclusions after getting into a RWD that could barely hold onto the track(default settings). What I didn't do was give it a chance... I kept complaining more then practising and doin setupwork(which is actually the key to enjoying this game to its fullest).

Was my face red when I finally asked a guy for a setup, while we were racing online(the only way). He sent it to me and it changed my whole outlook on the sim. I realized immediately the potential was there... I just never looked for it. And I have ofcourse been happy ever since... HAIL LFS!

What I still don't understand is how so many people see Rfactor as a sim? Maybe that's more your style of game. I bought it when it was released, after having tried the demo and was well... not at all impressed. I played it for less then a week and went back to LFS(like I ever left). Now only the mods that will be developed in the future are my only reason for keeping it.

I don't see the need in reskinning it at all. It's a real F1 car after all... we have wanted real cars in LFS from the beginning and now we do, why change back? I think this is the best step in the right direction that LFS has ever taken.
