Quote from Tweaker :Heheh Andre, for a second I thought the topic of this thread was about bumbing people from behind

Yes, bumPing in the oval doesn't do any damage really and a number of things need to be improved.
  • Bump drafting is impossible for some cars (cars with bumpers), and sometimes you get stuck together (UF1 best example)
  • Damage is lacking sensitivity and needs to be improved. Wings need to fall off on formula cars, by hitting walls, wheels, and other objects. Wheels, noses, panels, all need to fall off. But I am sure damage model will be improved much later. But I guess we'll have to wait

The best damage model I ever experienced was in Flatout Damaged my arms also ( rsi and cts) Also serious: I think indeed, and you 2, that hitting something, a wall or a brain, or whatever, needs some penalty called damage . Yep we wait
Oval bumbing with Sauber ?

I really wish to see in the next patch that this "arcade" spielerei is over.
It's not very real. When hitting eachother there must be some substantial damage or on the front or the back, wich there isn't.

Quote from drift_apprentice :Hi, just wondering if anyone is using Team Speak? Maybe a useful/fun thing when racing? I only have a client version, anyone got a server going?

TeamSpeak is very nice prog, though its way too big and causes substantial lag in previous times within several games.

Mostly it was used in shooters and I think it has some function there, however not in racing games / sims etc.

Within racing games it's used mostly in a negative way witch I don't like .
Let me explain this

Player A joins, some time later player B joins, then suddenly player a or b write : TS ? Funny is that both players are team members, same nick colors etc.

Then a race start. And every time again it's very interesting to experience the way those team members with TS are behaving...

1 of them has a good start and number 2 is blocking all other racers so that number 1 can go. Did'nt we see that some time ago in Formula 1 also ? very good concept. "Go Schumi, I, Massa, block Alsonso, gogogo "

Imo, speaking prg's can be very usefull but not in LFS, tell me the real function. Btw Roger Wilco is much smaller and better too

Quote from Funnybear : Manual lets you hold a gear through corners or quick change down. I am an FZR driver and the gears are an intergral part of getting the car slowed down. An auto box doesn't quick change to a low enough gear early enough to help you brake whilst with a manual box you can jump from sixth to forth then rapid shift to second for some really smart out braking manouvers. If you can get that right you can pull of some amazing out braking moves.

I wish I had wrote that Perfect. Not only for the FZR, BMW also .
I always use my gears (down) to brake (extra) when needed. Sounds maybe silly but I always 1th go back to lower gear (basicly higher but ok ) and then step on the brakes.
A lot of drivers do it different: 1th step on the brakes then lower gearing
But in common it means that with manual driving you control all aspects of driving, at any moment, and in time you're way faster.

Hi Kekkart,

I had a lot of fun with my old Momo Red, it seems to be special made for LFS, though after 3 years or so, maybe 4, I forget, I had to made some creative repairs, and after some time it really died, RIP.

Bought last 2 june the Momo black, 115 Euro's , cost me some weeks to get it all tuned , especially the pedals sensitivity, but now Im get used to it and do pb's again

The steering stability is very good and even better then the old red, steerbuttons a little diff then before but in common I really think this can be a really nice wheel for you.

Quote from RipperJax :illepall I'm a beginner...in LFS!! I've been racing ALL other sims before. I found that the talk about using gears, clutch etc. is just...bullshit!! I can race faster than any guy using the automatic option in other games. Is this the case in LFS as well?? Do you really gain from using manual gear shift in LFS, or is it just 'mumbo jumbo' from the 'tough guys'?illepall

When you're fast with auto stay at auto. When you want to be faster do it all yourself (manual)

Quote from joen :I expect it won't take long before we'll see a post in improvement suggestions asking for working trafficlights, speedlimits and policecars in LFS.

I've seen already some police cars, it works ! We all ramm them

Serious: Flyingsam is right, it's all about having fun, some don't understand that concept, as stated somewhere esle also....

Quote from gishuk :does this effect grip at all at the moment? or is it purely cosmetic?

no, just cosmetic, wrote some time ago about this too (dirt on tracks)
Doesn't infect driving.
Momo black / drives strange

After 4 years or so, I bought today a new and replaced my old red.
Somehow there are some strange things going on with this wheel.

It seems to be very sensitive, mostly the pedals, and steering also

Feels like all good setups doesnt work with this steer/pedals anymore ?

I assume it's supported by LFS ?

Best results I get atm with wheel turn 420 and throttle brake center reduction 0.15.

But even then I drive like a noob. Normallly at BW1 easy 54 now not faster then 56. Fe2 normally 48 and now: grrrr

I'm btw not the only one with this funny experience so any advice is welcome.

Quote from Scawen :Yes there was a wide power cut in West London. It came back and broke down again. Hopefully that's it for now... a power cut is usually very rare here (like one every few years) although we had one recently as well.

I still think spsamsp did it :biggun:

Quote from Tweaker :The rubber on the track is only on your computer. They can have it enabled and their groove will look different compared to everyone elses. If someone were to weave back and forth on the BL backstraight, they would have a really dark snake line visible. You wouldn't

Tnx again, interesting extra's, but it's beyond my starting thread m8, I suggest to start a new thread so you can write more

Quote from Tweaker :If you want a clear/clean track with no rubber racing groove visible, just goto your LFS/data/knw folder and delete the *.trs files. Those are the racing grooves that you have developed overtime while racing on the track.

Then you would need to goto LFS's options and goto MISC, there you will find the option for "Draw Path" I think it is, and you need to turn it OFF there too. You can also set it to draw a line from YOUR racing line only, or EVERYONE's racing line online.

I don't see how it is distracting to be honest. I find it quite useful actually. For instance, it will show a dark line where a braking point is, and you can judge how bad your racing line is by looking at it when driving in any particular corner.

Tnx m8, very usefull, altough when I change/delete that file it's gone for guests too ?

Don't see the point of removing the rubber(dirt) stripes. it's there but it doesnt effect our grip....

About the lines (on track), wrong lines are distracting Drive some 30 laps in qual, and see what I mean, lines are all over the place so where is the good racing line now

And again, tnx for thinking with me

Quote from richy :sorry andre i got a bit sidetracked there should of been in a seperate thread.

np, I just wanted to know for sure if the rubber was counted in lfs variables. Now I understand thats almost impossible, so it's just the distraction that kills me for good laps and therefor a clean track gives me better times

Tnx all for thinking about this

Quote from Christian Seidel :LOL Why?

because it all make sense
André

Quote from Christian Seidel :The black stripes on the track are not dirt but rubber. In LFS dirt doesn't get from off track onto the track - neither visually nor physically. And rubber is only visual, it has no effect on grip whatsoever.

But dirt can get on your tyres, massively reducing your grip. This effect cannot be seen on the tyre itself but you can check the dirt on your tyres by pressing F9. The brown bars inside the symbolic tyres represent the amount of dirt on your tyre.

Of course all of this only represents the actual status of LFS. Features about visibility or physical effects of rubber or dirt on track or tyres might change in the future.

*EDIT*

Man, I'm slow...

grr, wish to delete most part of your reply, but I can't

1. Dirt IS rubber, or what else dirt can be caused ?

2. We all know F9 and F10

3. "Features about visibility or physical effects of rubber or dirt on track or tyres might change in the future."

Good answer, means basicly it's all in my mind and there are no variables involved, the track isn't clear but it is clear

Hehe, np m8, but I just want to know afap if dirt, wich is rubber, on the track makes us faster or slower

Quote from thisnameistaken : Especially if you've got dirty tyres from the chicane.

I think I wasn't too clear about my question ?

I'm not talking about (the use of) kerbstones, I'm talking about the dirt on the road, on kerbs too btw.

Very simple, is that dirt , as showing as black stripes on the track, infecting our driving in postive or negative way. Proberly it's just neutral, so it doesnt matter and it's just distract our driving because it's there ?
