Quote from bishtop :Fastest electric car has a top speed of 210mph and some get 0-60mph in around 1.6s which leaves the majority of cars for dust

Yes, there are also very fast electric vehicles on the market (or coming to market) like for instance the RIMAC C2 which also has a two speed transmission to accieve the top speed of over 400km/h.

Some of the newer models like the Audi E-Tron GT (which is Audis take on the Porsche Taycan platform) also has a two-speed transmission, but it uses the first gear only in dynamic mode or when using the launch control. In efficiency mode it uses only the second gear all the time.

So transimissions in electric cars are used, but as of now mostly in performance oriented vehicles.
I think that we will also see other electric vehicles with transmissions in the future, like offroad vehicles or heavy machinery that will need more torque instead of top speed.

Hello!

Today even the most powerfull performance electric vehicles cap out at a relative low top speed compared to vehicles with combustion engines.
While a top speed around 150-200 km/h might be enough for most parts of the world, here in germany we are used to cars with top speeds way above 200 km/h.
So while it is true that an electric motor can deliver the same torque across its whole rpm range that also means that the rpm of the motor is directly proportional to the driven wheel speed.
If you now implement a transmission you can accieve lower motor rpm at higher wheel speed which is not only a comfort advantage but also allows for higher top speed.
So there are use case scenarios in which an electric vehicle could benefit from a transmission even if most electric vehicles do not need any form of transmission.

Hello!

The porsche taycan also has a transmission with two gears as shown here: https://presse.porsche.de/prod ... lle-taycan-taycan_turbo_s
Even if most electric vehicles do not need a transmission, because of the way electric motors deliver their power over the whole rpm range, a car aimed at performance can benefit from varying gear ratios to deliver more torque to the wheels.

Ah, the endless joy of progress reports! Looking very good so far - even better if the big parking building in sc will be accessible to do a little driving up and down the ramps.

Keep up the good work!

How to buy upgrade licence from s2 to s3?

Hello Scavier and fellow racers!

How can i upgrade my s2 licence to s3?

The shop is a bit unclear on this procedure and gives the impression that s3 licence only can be bought for 36gbp.

I was under the impression that every step up from demo to s1, from s1 to s2 and from s2 to s3 was 12gbp, but there is no clear path for just buying this upgrade from s2 to s3.

So how do i go on about this?

Do i have to be logged into the shop for the upgrade path to be seen?
Is there a way to just add 12gbp (or the equivalent in euro) to my lfs account, so i can activate s3?

Thank you for any information on this topic.

Maybe others have the same problem, so an obvious explanation for this upgrades would be nice to have somewhere on the lfs site. Obtaining an upgrade should be as easy and self explanatory like just buying the first licence.

Happy racing!

hello fellow racers!

it is really nice to see lfs evolving at its own speed but with no stopping for so long now.
tell me which other game from that time is still installed on your computers? and which of those still get updates?

but be careful what you wish for - if we get dynamic weather at some point that could lead to unforseen consequences...

if we for example get to see the holy grail of racetracks, which is the famous nürburgring nordschleife, in our holy grail of racing simulators that could lead to another adventure for scavier to find the perfect weather physics!
the weather at the ´ring can be totally unpredictable with sun at the start, some fog after a few corners followed by heavy rain and even some snow and ice on parts of the track.

so keep on the good work and effort scavier!
and keep on racing and dreaming to build the best DRIVING simulator in the world - because racing is just a subset of having fun with vehicles...

What about adding a new filter to the multiplayer server list to order the active racers based on their lap times on lfs world?

that way it would possibly be easier to find some persons who are around the same skill level as yourself?

racing against far superior or inferior oponents can get boring or frustrating quickly, so to meet racers at your personal level could make for more close and interesting racing.

all the other server filters are good as they are so everybody can find servers as to their preferences, but some sort of skill matching could be helpful also for all the casual racers that have no time to practice for world records but just want to find some quick fun race action.

racing against far superior racers is also good to learn something about technique and race lines, but in my opinion the real fun is in close combat racing against people that are on the same level as yourself.

p.s. @benom: some of the videos don´t play here in germany, because of a youtube block for unlicenced music. can you reupload the videos without music (or even without any sound if you can´t remove the music alone from the audiotrack).

that one track, let´s call it "south city industrial" has been there for a long time now, and i was and still am confused on why scavier didn´t open that area when they redesigned the old south city? it even is a part of the map on the lfs website for south city. to open up this area is one of the things i also asked a long time ago. just like the revamped westfield opening that area should not be that much work, isn´t it?
maybe this comes with the next update as part of overall improved and extended tracks? that way even if they just introduce an new car or the tire physics, it would be a nice addition.

thank you for pointing me at that event! that looks like a good opportunity to win a voucher by showing some driving skills and dedication to race.
unfortunately that event is still some days away and i´ve only got some time to play right now so that is why i asked if someone can give me an upgrade voucher now, if i promise to also give a voucher to someone before easter of 2016. if there is someone out there that can help me here that would be spectacular!

what a fantastic surprise for the holidays! another great racing environment to epand the lfs universe. good job, great work, well done scavier! keep on following your path... it is a good one!

sometimes people tend to forget very fast... or did they complain about getting the westhill track update for free? or countless feature updates over the years which also benefit all lfs players from demo to s3?
no other game without mod support has managed to stay installed on my computer for so long (except maybe need for speed porsche for sentimental reasons and rbr, because like lfs it is a game from another planet and still unbeaten after all those years). lfs is not like your average game where they try to sell you another "full version" every year - lfs is is the longest running public alpha test of any games i know and the little bit of money we pay for all those years of fun is riddiculous compared to other titles that are long dead and gone. so support the lfs development for some more years of fun!
to truly fullfill the original vision of lfs being the ultimate racing simulator i´m sure after some more stunning content from scavier they will open to some kind of mod support at some point in the future to keep the game alive forever, but in my opinion they will only do it if there is a very high level of quality also guranteed for the mods. to find a good peer review system for that is the hard part, but they will figure out a way.
it is funny how much paralells there are in the development of lfs and spintires - spintires also has one genius lead programmer who likes to do things his way and so there are some of the same problems and complaints and sometimes complicated communications seen like here, but in the end both are amazing games who are real special in their nice markets and offer something nobody of the competition can do that well.
so let´s keep this good games from small development crews alive and unfolding!

my situation is a bit bad at the moment and so i could not afford to buy me a s3 upgrade at the moment. so maybe one of you nice racers can help me out on that and gift me a voucher, if i publicly promise here in this forum to give a voucher to another lfs racer before easter of 2016?
that would be really great and also it would be my only christmas present this year so one of you could make a fellow racer very happy! thank you!

Quote from troy :On his second video this VR-Nerds guy mentions a bug that "occurred multiple times" on his Vive already.

https://youtu.be/Q7929vHkPGI?t=291

Seems to happen when a new track is loaded, he says something about the image being distorted, not sure what exactly he's talking about.

yes, he says something about the image being either distorted or having another shape and that it had occured a few times. but then he continues with saying that he is not bothered that much by this error, because he likes how fast the game loads or reloads anyways.

he also tells a bit about some minor differences in graphical details to the occulus dk2 and for the most part he likes the vive better, because of better detail and because he could look with the eyes more to the borders of the screen and not have to turn the head like with the occulus.

and he really likes driving standing upright in a open top car, which is a great demonstation of the degree of freedom you get with such a vr-solution ... Big grin

isn´t it a bit ridiculos that one of the single most creative sim programmer in the world, with a well and proven track record, doesn´t get easy access to a simple developer forum on a platform that gave him a vr development kit in the first place?
why on earth is that forum access not bundeled with the dev hardware, as this is what it was meant for?
this is like if albert einstein liked to join a physics club and they told him, "na, first you´ll have to prove that you are really serious about quantum physics... and pay 5$"

go go go scavier - someday they will call YOU. Thumbs up

nice! this patch really helps my computer from the stone age. thank you!

@devs: could you possibly add some info on what the new settings in the options screen do and how to set them for either the highest framerates or for the smoothest and most fluid framerates with the least amout of input lag and timing offset from the physics engine?
there was plenty of info on that in the patch test tread but that is not accessible anymore since the test forum is hidden again.

my pc is just able to deliver around 120fps on the new westhill if i do not limit the frame rate and leave v-sync off.
now i noticed if i use v-sync at 60hz then there is noticeable stutter at some points of the track where the frames fall just below 60fps - e.g. 58 or 56fps. (i believe the frames then drop to 30 to get v-sync every second frame?)

but if i set the frames to 75fps fix it does not fall under 60 at any point of the track any longer, so it does not stutter like with 60frames fixed or v-sync.

is this setting of 75fps better for me to get more constant frame rates, than to limit to 60frames or use v-sync (my monitor runs at 60hz)?

also what does this mean for physics and input lag? would it be better to switch to 100fps to be at the same speed as the physics engine?

just letting everything free running at the highest fps is also not as smooth as the 75fps setting, because then there is way more dynamics in the fps and the values jumping up and down depending on the place on the track.

could anybody make an instruction on how to find the settings that produce the smoothest display of frames, with the least amount of fps jumps and no input lag?

the performance gain of the test patches on older machines is really great - looking forward to great future releases of lfs!

really? noone? even if we have a 6:2 in favour of short challenges on the poll...
why is nobody trying the challenge and show us some times?

i know there are braking challenges that are very alike, but this one is only easy on first glance - just try it - you will see that it seems easy, but it is not that easy to improve once you have laid down one good lap. with that bends at the start and the long way uphill every little slide or misshift will cost valuable time in the end and the blind braking spot and the bumps are not making it easier.

thank you for participating in the poll and i hope somebody will post their times in different cars as well.

yes, that was my main thinking behind building this challenge track. to provide a very short and quick race action for people that like to compete against others or themselves, but do not have the time to join multiplayer races.

sadly nobody has taken part in this uphill challenge i posted in the main forum, yet. but i think that having to make the leaderboards by hand from the spr for now is not that appealing to the masses.
nowaddays this all has to work instantly and automatic and maybe even with push notifications, so they know who is the fastest.
as i don´t know how to make this leaderboards the challenge is not working like i planned.

yeah, a co driver would be excellent! that is why i like richard burns rally so much - that game is on my harddrive nearly as long as lfs... and still i haven´t found anything that comes close to it. just imagine if eric would make some tracks like in rbr, but with lfs physics?

in lfs we already have the possibility to share a car in multiplayer and to hand it over in the pits - wouldn´t it be awesome to join a car together to play these rally stages?

@ryoso: thank you! i also like your approach and there is a ton of other short tracks that we can use to make short challenges for racers that do not have the time to participate in longer races, but still want to have some fun.

Westhill - Uphill Challenge - A new idea for very short racing action!
molocco
S3 licensed
Hello fellow racers,

in lfs we have all sorts of races, from hot laps to endurance series, but no really short and easy single player challenges suitable for people that have fun to quickly jump into a car and start racing. you always need some other players and then even a short race on a small circuit takes a quarter of an hour or even longer.

so what can we do for very quick racing action for people that just have a few minutes to do some kind of racing on their own, but still want to compete?

here i present: THE WESTHILL - UPHILL CHALLENGE:

the goal is fairly simple - get to the top of that hill as fast as possible and then break early enough to come to a complete halt under the roof of the medical center.

doesn´t seem that hard, is it? just try and you see that there is indeed a challenge here. first there are some „easy“ corners, but to take maximum momentum thru them is not that easy as you can not touch any of the cones or haybales.
the uphill part is long enough to get to the top speed in almost every car and then there is a blind braking spot followed by some bumps on the last meters.

my idea is to make some sort of ranking system that gets its information from the uploaded spr. this should be done automatically and only needs three pieces of info from the spr: the name of the racer, the time and the car used.
so ultimately it is a car dependand ranking system, because it makes not that much sense to put all cars into one ranking as the stronger cars will dominate otherwise.

so it is better to simply display a ranking for each individual car. that way racers can compare how fast they are and improve their own time in comparison.

if anybody can help with that automatic ranking system that would be great!

but for now let´s start the offline challenge just by posting your car and time with a screenshot at the finish and attach the spr.

HOW FAST CAN YOU BE?

peace, mo

attached below there are some pictures do describe the challenge - from the start around the roundabout, thru the tunnel and up that hill. then come to a complete halt beneath the roof of the medical center.

and here are my first times in different cars:

UF 1000 - 0.50.47
Rac - 0.40.73
XRR - 0.33.72

and finaly there is the layout for this challenge.

@mcgherkin: wow, you have managed to do another stunning rally stage!
i really like your talent to find new corners and combinations and form them into a great challenge.
please do not stop making these rally stages. they are remarkable!
some corners in stage 3 are a bit hard to see, maybe add some more markers at crucial points.

if the other tracks in lfs also get surrounding roads i hope you continue your amazing work so we get more of that fabulous stages.
