Here is the post for the entry in system.reg that will fix the unlock problem.
Here is a post in the screenie section that will give you linux guys some happiness.
I have been using cedega 4.3.3 and Ubuntu linux for awhile now. I would not have it any other way, except to have a native client for LFS.
P.S. I have just updated to patch V, the Unlock system must have changed. I am now back to demo mode. I don't have a net connection at the moment for the desktop so I can't unlock. FPS went up some, and I like the new menus.
I am using the bought version of cedega 4.3.2 with vastly improved results over 5.X. I have the rpm from the subscription to transgaming. I use alien to convert it to a .deb. I have since bailed on the sub, because of the direction transgaming is headed. I do know that the cvs version (which it appears you are using) has always created problems for alot of people. I suggest using wine www.winehq.org or an older version of cedega.
OT somewhat. It does my heart good to see all these people talking of my favorite OS. Other than that, Inkscape, Gimp and Linux help me with my skinning needs. On the post by Crumbut he said " I cant give you a screenshot cause the Viewer will not run in Linux." The Viewer works well under Cedega (unfortunatly). I am also running LFS with great results (40 to 150 FPS depending on load.) I too hope that we can get a Linux Port one day. If anyone needs some help with Linux for Speed please don't hesitate to ask.
I haven't posted to the forums in awhile, to busy racing. I thought I'd give an update. At this time I am running Ubuntu 5.10 patched with last updates to the packages. I haven't updated recently. I use cedega 4.3.2-1, with phenominal results. I get between 60 and 160 fps depending on what track, and how many cars are running.
On another note... If you like a group of companies having control of what you play ,read, listen to, or browse, then it is well and good that MS gets its way. I think people with the "less different platforms, less problems" mentality will be fine in their windows world. I for one will like my freedom. I for one have no problem running a minority OS... come to think of it, thats why I run Linux. I have no problems with the OS. Just some of the programs and lack of support. But even I have been able to get around the support issue by using my head and buying hardware from companies that support my freedom. I also can work my way around the program issue if I choose.
P.S. I offer up proof. Ubuntu 6.01 is even better.
I will admit that WinXP SP2 is alot more stable than the past products from MS. Althought I brag about uptime and stability.
I use Linux for it's main strong point, that being the freedom (as in beer and speech) it brings me to use my machine the way I wish. If you take a look at where MS want's to take us as a computing community you should be affraid. DRM and Trusted computing are some of the ways they want to insure you buy Windows and Upgrade when they want you to. Software patents and strongarm techniques are others.
Vista (aka Longhorn) calls for an absolute minimum 512mb ram, which means alot of people will have to buy new machines to use it the way it's mean't to be. There will be a scaled down install with some graphics features shut off to allow it to run on the minimum hardware. OpenGL clearly gives me better performance but will be shut out in favor of DX because MS does not want GL to aid in the loss of their gamming market. Paying game companies to use DX over OGL is another tactic they like to use.
As far as ordinary people using linux, I have set up quite a few people on distros like Ubuntu, Fedora, and DSL. They all have had very good experiences with their new systems (even though some had 5 or 6 yr old equipment). they run faster or as fast in most cases, without upgrades.
As linux grows in market share we will get better support from hardware vendors for obscure harware, games, and multimedia playing.
The later works fine although it is Illegal for me to play DVD's on my Linux box, because of patents and MS control. Also becuse the movie and music companies want you to buy one copy of each dvd or cd to go on each of your devices, insuring their revenue stream will continue to grow.
In conclusion, I say again that if you haven't tried Linux in awhile please give Ubuntu a try. I will be glad to offer my assistance anytime.
My point exactly.
The human skin, Ipod after being sold by apple for more than 2 yrs. After 20 yrs of free use the fat(fat32) file system are now patented by MS. Welcome to the Uninted Corporation of America. Let freedom belong to those who own it.

Reason : additional thoughts
I thought I would post this for those of you that are thinking of using linux.
This is a shot of my p3 600 Compaq Armada e500 256mb 60gig, wifi usb sound also screen brightness control. I don't have 3d features yet because ATI does not support cards this old. I am forced to use reversed engineered open source drivers. Nvidia supports almost all cards they have ever made. The machine proves to be as stable as my main box, and its quite fast enough for what I do with it.
I will start with the AA and AF issue. I assume that they are enabled because I set them in the "nvidia-settings" configuration program. I have not done any real test to see if they are, except in game graphics. I will admit there is a degradation in fps and grafix quallity when in window mode, but I assure you it works well in fullscreen. Takumi -- I did forget the sky. I run it that way just for the performance gain. I don't look at the sky anyway, being that I am chasing the guy in front or running from the guy behind me.
I haven't experienced a lock-up of the system, I do have programs lock up on occasion. I hit ctrl+alt+F1 (or 2 thru 8) to switch to a virtual terminal (command line) login, stop the offending program and go back to my desktop (using F7) to continue.
I have to say to you guys that have tried linux in the past. Give Ubuntu a try. Use the Ship-It link to get them to send you up to 10 sets of disc for free. Easy setup and system maintenance. Plenty of Help online and on the CD's. Nvidia drivers are a point and click install. ATI as well.
Vain -- I went to the trangaming site to get cedega and installed it. I don't like the front end to 5.0 so I use 4.4.3-1 (with ubuntu use the deb package). Install was straight forward, no special steps needed. I then unzipped the LFS folder to where I wanted it and ran the game from the CL. You will need to edit the system.reg file to unlock the game. Follow this post by the_angry_angel about mid ways down the thread to get it working.
Those of you that enjoy stability under windows, good for you because millions of other people don't get that pleasure.
I will offer my assistance on any problems you may have with Linux.
I was not really trying to piss anyone off. I just wanted to post a pic to show off. I guess you are right, I didn't think of it that way at the time. I was also hoping to get some post of other systems doing this much work, and playing LFS.
As for the fps in LFS I get between 60 and 80 when not windowed. I do have all graphics turned up with AA and AF enabled at 2x. I am using cedega which I believe degrades the performance somewhat due to the translation (for lack of a better word). Although HL and MOHAA work fine.
I would like to say that I don't see many windows machines like Takumi's, that are able to remain stable all day while doing all that work. How long do you get before something crashes Takumi?
As for Linux gamming. I play UT2004 (OpenGL glory), Doom3, Quake4, HL2, HL, Q3, RTCW, MOHAA, LFS, Racer, Serious Sam 1 & 2, and a few others. If more companies would produce games for Linux then I would have more to play.
Now for the stability remark.
Takumi --> " linux may finally be stable"
I suppose that 1 year uptimes are common in the windows world then? In the 10 yrs I have been using linux, stablility is the one thing I have not had to complain about. I reboot only for kernel upgrades.
The screenshots I see here are fantastic. Windows does its job well (i.e. playing games). I thought I would post a shot of my linux desktop running LFS. To let the darkside shine for a bit.
I chose this shot because it not only shows LFS running, but also shows the stability of Linux. I have LFS, LFSViewer, Email client, TheGimp image editor, Firefox with 5 or 6ix tabs open, System Monitor to show load CPU=96%, a game of blackjack and Xmen avi playing on the second desktop. Machine is still very responsive. I switch between apps as I wish. I believe (from experience) Windows would have choked by now.
Athlon XP 3000, 512m men, 200gig drive Geforce FX 5600 256mb, TV card, Live 5.1 sound, 2 nics, dvd, cdrwiter, running Ubuntu linux 5.10 (Breezy)

Thank you for the code. I threw my hands in the air with glee when I saw it. I have been looking for it since I began playing LFS. I bow down before you.
I will vote for this on the winehq board, but I do wish the devs would allow us a client. I pay the monthly fee for cedega because I want to play this game. I just as gladly would pay the devs the same fee for a naitive client.
I did modify /etc/apt/sources.list by rewriting the whole thing with this sources.list from ubuntulinux.org unofficial guide.

other than that I found wine in synaptic and told it to install. wine will not run video but sound worked.
I downloaded the cedega-engine-5.0.2-local-update.i386.cpkg as well as the cedega_5.0.1_i386.deb file from transgaming. I believe the wineX cvs would suffice though. I can use the gui to launch LFS but prefer the CL because of the feedback.
The game runs very well. I get between 30 and 60 fps. I am using Cedega 5.02, with the registry from Wine 20050725. The wine install is the default Ubuntu package installed with Synaptic. LFS gets better fps using the cedega reg file but you can't unlock the game. I have been though the reg files of both, and cannot locate the difference between them that allows you to unlock. I have AF set at 4x and AA set to 4xBilinear. I think that using the cedega reg file would give better performance. LFS needs a Linux port. I know quite a few people who would pay double to get it. I would, if that is an incentive.
I've included one more screenie. I really just wanted to prove it works. I circled the FPS counter in the LFS window, it's below 30 because the screenshot program maxes out the CPU when starting. I have the perf mon up to show the mem usage and CPU cycles. The machine is an Athlon XP 3000, 256mb ram, 200gb HD, TV card, 2 nics, ieee, usb2, dvd, cd-rw, NV Gforce 5600 FX 256mb. This OS and Machine are very stable. I could run 2 instances of LFS in window mode and still play or do other work. Linux rocks.
