Quote from cargame.nl :It makes no sense to laserscan all kind of tracks if the physics do not match up with 'the feel'.

That is what Scawen tries to achieve with these tire physics update. Otherwise it's building a skyscraper without a foundation.

Look at our money swindling American 'friends' with their Iracing production. It has nothing to do with simracing, just a bunch of crap put together for a lot of money. They even f*cked up their tire physics even more now. LFS ideology was and is different from the start, making a real carsim, not going for the big money.. Small development team and then yes you get these kind of delays.

Anyway if this foundation, tire physics is completed in a good way, you can think of adding more real life cars and tracks. You first don't go to high school and then to Kindergarten do you?

Its waiting until Scawen has something like, well.. This is not 100% perfect but it's acceptable.

Its not about the model itself you silly, it are the calculations behind it.

Good... That is what most kids want... A lot of content, maybe a little shooting also with it.. And no sim whatsoever... Thats good, keep the economy running. But it has nothing to do with simracing development.

The tyre physics calculations are what is most important, but the tyre model has been in development since 2008 when the VWS was first announced. I was simply belittling the screen shots because from a casual view it is just a few more lines and a rotated image.

I'm not a kid BTW. In fact I've been playing LFS since 2003 and I now have 3 kids of my own! My eldest is 6 and will probably be in high school before the VWS is released.

If LFS had of developed at it's original pace (2003 - 2006) my financial spending would have been toward the LFS DEVS not other titles. But the lack of development caused boredom and now I spend most of my spare gaming money on Rise of Flight, an epic WW1 flight simulator that gets updates frequently and is also a very small development team.

Actually the DEVS here could learn a lot from ROF. Rather than 3 years of failed promises, ROF charges you a small fee for new aircraft should you wish to fly them. Given the frequency of game updates and new free features included, people like me are more than willing to pay for new aircraft to keep the sim developing further.

What the LFS DEV's are doing here is creating an entirely new problem. The tyre physics development is moving along at snails pace, so anything short of utter perfection after X amount of years will result in massive backlash.

Look at the joke that Duke Nukem Forever is... hyped and delayed for years, now completed and gets sub par ratings. The game had outdated itself due to its slow development.

Let's not even mention West Brothers Racing Legends and the failed mistake of slow development that was...

I hate to be a troll as I was once a huge LFS fan(boy). But this update post is a complete joke. Nothing, I mean, absolutely nothing is different in this report since December 2010. In fact there is LESS info in it.

Sure there are a few more lines in the 3D tyre image and it has been rotated, but it surely doesn't take 12 months to work out how do that??

Anyway, I had a good laugh, and now I will just continue to spend my time and money on other titles.

Having played LFS from almost the very beginning, the one thing I find disappointing is the lack of screen shots/videos of future updates. That was something we had a lot of back in 2003, 2004 & 2005.

A thousands threads would then spawn speculating a million different things and stupid conclusions would often be the result. But it was fun nonetheless.

Now the community is more like a mushroom (kept in the dark in retrospect), yet thousands of threads still spawn speculating a million different things. Again with the same results… stupid conclusions. Now it’s just not as much fun (the speculation that is) as it's moslty just bitching and crying.

>Announcing VW Scirocco

Hello LFS Racers.

We are pleased to announce that we plan to release the new VW Scirocco in Live for Speed during the week ending Friday 19th December.

If you'd like to have a look at the car in 3D or start working on a skin, you can :
- download the CMX Viewer (26 MB)

For a preview of the car inside LFS you can watch a presentation video made by Victor van Vlaardingen.

- Watch instantly on YouTube
- Low resolution AVI (19 MB)
- High resolution AVI (47 MB)
- Best resolution MKV (51 MB - does not play in Windows Media Player)

You will need an S1 or S2 license in order to drive the Scirocco when it is released.

More information next week!

- LFS Developers

The announcement says week ending Friday 19th December. Well, according to my research, the week ending Friday 19th December is in the year 2015. Given the current development rate, the Devs are no doubt accurate in their estimated release date.

So everyone stop the whining, we've got another 6 years to wait!

(I'm aware of 2008, but, that's long passed.)

The reason your bored is probably because you don't race LFS online. In all honesty, LFS as a single player game is shit.

No-one knows when/if S2 will be final as well, it's still Alpha after 3 years of development. I wouldn't hold my breath for S3 coming anytime soon, get S2 Alpha instead... or, pay the full price to "pre-order" S3 anyway so you can use S2 in the meantime.

Quote from kimmag :Hey guys! Yeah, i am back to play LFS, i havent played since summer 2008, is there something new ingame? I just wonder, any new mods/server types or something? BTw i had birthday yesterday, now im 16

Anything new people ?

Nope. Well a few minor things but nothing really great springs to mind. Do you speak the Ket Language? Over the past 12 months LFS may have been translated into that.

There is a rumour of a car sometime in the future... I think the forum fairies call it a VW Scirocco, but latest rumour is that it's delayed.

Long gone are the days of being able to find decent random racing on public servers.

Anywho, wait another 6 months + and the VW might be released. Then you'll be able to find a million populated VW servers for about a month or two.

Quote from TagForce :There's just not too much of a challenge in driving a new car, or a combo you've never driven before because most everybody has tried every combo there is either offline or online. It's not just what they're used to, it's what they find exciting.

Basically, I generally like long tracks that require lots of concentration. Is there such a combo in LFS? Well, besides Aston's GP and Historic tracks and Kyoto Long, no. Do they require lots of concentration? Depends on the car. Aston is plain boring in the slower cars, apart from the 2 or 3 turn combination that require precise braking and turning most of it is flat out just waiting for the next hairpin. Even when you do that in an LX6 it's just a matter of changing your brakepoints and turn in points, and you're back to driving the same old boring track again.

I'm sorry to say this, but the most exciting part of LFS at the moment is racing one combo in a slow car, then changing the car and without practice immediately race a fast car on the same track.

What LFS needs most now (besides the obvious new features in physics and bugfixes) is a new track, rather than a new car. We're all so bloody familiar with the tracks that it takes only 3 laps to get up to speed in any car (provided you have driven it before). Humans want challenges, something to keep their brain occupied with new experiences. Driving a new car on an old track is not a new experience, it's an old experience that you do over and over again.

Having said that, online racing in LFS is still the best out there. While hotlapping is boring, racing someone door to door or wheel to wheel lap after lap is as exciting as ever, regardless of the combo. Which is probably why we're all still here, bitchin' and moanin' about a lack of new content, instead of finding another sim to play.

Give FE Black a go if you want a long combo.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :I can't remember a time when you could push forward/pull back to accelerate and brake.

However, may be off topic, but may I suggest a gamepad or a joystick? They may work better for you if that's an option.

Urm, you might want to re-read the first post... I highly doubt he'll be able to operate a gamepad or joystick with his mouth.

Spacman, I think I remember you from the old forums. I'm trying to remember what version you're thinking of, but Mille seams to have the solution your after.

Certainly right about that; over 6 months to develop one car is no rush by anyones standard.

So now you're just stupid??

The RB4 is due for a complete model update. Compare it to the others and its edges are rough and the car looks half complete.

But, give the DEVS another 3 years and S2 Beta might be here complete with updated car models.

Most cars I've owned have measured speed from the gearbox. I know this because in most of them I've changed the cable myself that goes from the Speedo to the gearbox.

With my current car I have no idea where it measures speed from. I haven't looked into it. I don't really care though, as long as it's accurate enough so I don't get fined!

I prefer cars that steer at the front and are driven by the rear. Seams pointless having a race car that uses the front wheels to do everything and the back wheels just get dragged along for the ride. What a waste. In a road car, I see the logic in FWD. FWD allows the car to be more compact yet provides more interior space flexibility. That makes sense to me.

I'm not saying FWD isn't fun. I've had plenty of fun in real life FWD cars and LFS FWD cars. But given the choice, RWD is my preference.

Quote from NightShift : and the other reason behind the success of FF (besides the easy, predictable handling) is that layout, unlike FR, makes for short bonnet cars with a spacious inside.

The (original) Mini is quite a clear example of that.

But the engine (which is heavy) is still generally over the front wheels.

The argument with RWD is that you can mount the engine closer to the middle of the car behind the front wheels. Thus reducing the weight over the front wheels themselves.

Since installing Test Patch Z5 I've been getting CTD's whilst in Window Mode.

I was able to reproduce it. I was in car selection screen (TBO only enabled on server) with RB4 selected. Pressed Shift+f4, download setup from Inferno, clicked back into LFS, picked different car, repicked RB4 to refresh Setups, selected new setup, clicked OK... Crashed to Desktop. I was in window mode still.

I did the same thing with the FXO. Same CTD result.

First post and flamed... lol

At least he/she used the "search" button. There are other techniques for exit wheelspin and it's called Traction Control. Many cars (include top level racing machines) use a form of Traction Control and not just driver throttle control.

UF1000
Engine: 1.0 litre inline 4
Power: 41kW (55bhp) @ 5589 rpm
Torque: 88Nm (65 lbft) @ 3009 rpm
Total Mass: 600 kg (1323 lbs)
Power-weight: 69 W/kg (93 bhp/ton)

UF1000 has to be one the most fun cars to race despite being so slow. The VW's bhp is between the XFG and FXO (125 bhp v 152 bhp v 212 bhp). Looks like another single class car, but that doesn't matter if it's good to drive/race.

Quote from scania :Is the VW not allow for setup? or only a setup lock for host only?

So far Scawen has mentioned tyre pressures and toe angles.

I assume we'll still have a choice of different tyres (road/dirt) but don't hold your breath for being able to change suspension, gear ratios etc. There might be minor (limited) chamber changes available (which can be done) but I'm guessing that. Perhaps there will be new options?

The VW will only be released with default colours available for the car from factory, but we can still skin it ourselves.

Quote from scipy :I was just wondering, how are you going to solve the brake pressure problem? Obviously you can take the bias from the real car, but brake pressure in a real Scirocco is virtually "unlimited" depending on how hard you can step on the pedal. I consider this a problem because LFS and all the hardware out there is still travel-sensitive and if we take the maximum amount that you can press a pedal on a PC and in LFS as the "absolute maximum pressure" then the ABS will kick in right away and the car will never stop (well it will stop but 2-3 car lenghts further than it would with threshold braking).

So, is the brake force going to be set at a fixed value just around the the kick-in point of the ABS (so we can still brake at max. pedal travel like with all the other cars in LFS, depending on brake force ofcourse) or is the brake pressure going to be uberhigh and we'll have to use only 50-60 % pedal travel (like in iRacing) to avoid ABS from kicking in?

The following screenshot explains in much less words what I mean. The first line (one where the car is) is the result of brake force adjusted for threshold braking, second one is 10 Nm higher and the ABS kicks in on rear tires only and the furthers line is max brake force so ABS works all the way.

There is no need to adjust or have a set brake force in LFS. It's simple, really, ABS only engages when it detects a wheel locking/skidding. ABS is independant of the Brake Force setting.

So, in LFS, if your brake force is low you will be less likely to lock/skid the wheels and therefore ABS won't engage that often. If you set the brake force high, it will be easier for you to lock/skid your wheels when braking and therefore ABS will kick in more often. Just like now, it's just a matter of testing the setup on the track to find the braking threshold.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain!

looking forward to the limited setups. Should make racing the VW very interesting

Three quick tips (this works for me):

1. Try different setups. It would probably be best to get online and ask kindly for other players setups (Inferno setups are more suited to hot lapping, not racing, but can be good).

2. Download faster players hot lap replays from LFS World and study their racing lines from different camera views. Practice. http://http://www.lfsworld.net/

3. Take a break from that car and/or track combination.

Like I said, that works for me. Once upon a time I was in the top 10 for XR GT in hot lap ranks... the only reason I got there was from lots of practice and the above.
