For the moment, I still play LFS since until things change, it's the only sim I can play remotely well.

But also because I've been slowly learning how to actually setup cars on my own basis.

And by that, I mean actually have some kind of understanding of what I'm doing and how it directly affects whatever car I'm using for any given kind of situation.

While I do consult the manual for help, I've had to resort to a bit of trial-and error to honestly figure out setups that I can both be consistent (I want to say fast but that's a lie) and not burn the tires out in record time.

But I also play because I don't want to get rusty with any concept of sim driving. It's why I had played GT6 when I could simcade or not, and before that, anything else I could play or try out.

That and I'm patiently waiting for what updates may come, I'd complain but at the same time, I can understand and appreciate that the developers want to try and get things right.

If I had any regrets, it was not getting into it fully sooner than later, oh well.

I must be patient...but I really am hoping for these updates sooner than later, but I'd rather they be done well than rushed.

...and this is coming from someone who's been playing LFS since 2002.

But I need to be patient, it'll hopefully be worth the wait.

It's been said a few times but, this all looks very promising, and I'll do my best to be patient for when it's all good and ready.

It'll be fun to race at night, I sadly don't get to play too many racing sims with varying conditions, so being able to do so in LFS (finally) will be something.

While I had finally gotten my S2 license, I had been quiet for a while since I had been working on a few things.

Besides trying to be quasi-decent with the GTR RWD cars (XR GTR in particular) in spite of using a keyboard (no option for a wheel + pedals and I'm NOT using a mouse, not anytime soon anyway), I've also been working on these, something I wanted to do but didn't get the motivation till a few weeks ago.

That being the paint schemes from the Ridge Racer games, namely Ridge Racer Revolution, although with a few cars, one or two elements from Ridge Racer 1.

These are all WIPs, no idea when I'll be 'finished' and I've still got some more cars to cover.

I'll be very very honest, I've been nervous about even showing these, more so with Solvaolu and Xevious since they look like I was being lazy compared to the other teams, I had been trying to be accurate to what's in game, with a few liberties taken (the most with F/A racing), I may make future versions to be more... 'real' but we'll see.

So...any thoughts?

Why I'm playing LFS? Good question.

I've got a bunch of answers. One of them being since I'm stuck with a POS computer (until I get a better one), and it's the only sim I can really run, and even by that 11 cars on track is pushing it.

But also because it was one of the first 'real' sims I got to play on PC besides what few other racers I've tried, I knew it's keyboard friendly (sorta), but a reason why I even try now, partially to still practice some scenarios with real life driving.

Sure I've got a license and I've been at it for a long while, I still practice and I still try to find ways to do any number of things better, be it mundane parking or attempting to actually perfect parallel parking.

I used it to practice what I could in game when I could not in RL, and it may have been partially responsible for me passing the test.

But also because I want to at least understand actual car setup with at least ONE driving sim even though there's clear differences in physics between games like Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Richard Burns Rally, iRacing.com, and yes I'll even include Forza and Gran Turismo.

I want to include DiRT Rally as well but I've not spent enough time to really say, and my little time was very limited (including driving a Metro 6R4 for the first time, at Monte Carlo, at night, with snow. I don't think there were any driver aids and years of LFS and RBR had me learn how to do without them anyway).

But to be on topic, right now I'm trying to at least have the delusion that I'm quasi-comptient with racing, and I've been trying to make a 'minimal' goal of being as fast as the AI on Pro on ANY circuit with the RWD GTR cars.

That goal has been a long painful journey far as not just learning how to go fast, be consistent, put the least amount of wear on tires, learn how to make up speed lost in some sections, learn how to pass cleanly and aggressively, and so forth, but also actually learning car setup inside and out.

I've kept quiet about that to be honest because, while not here, I've had too many cases of people being condescending towards me with enough things that I resorted to simply learning and figuring out some things on my own.

So I've been looking thru the manual, but also testing my setups and figuring out for myself what works and what does not for me.

I'm aware that for all of LFS's depth, it's not perfect and has some issues. I'm aware some updates have been, a long time in the making including a VW that should have came over a decade ago.

I still stick around because I want to get good with something.

There's more but, I think I've ranted enough as it stands.

I had gotten my hands on the S2 license a few weeks ago, but I have been playing LFS in some way since 2002 (among other sims). I'm in a way 'new' but that being said, hello to everyone here.

Well, to answer your question as for why long, me and my brother both had/have accounts, and since we had lived in the same house, it felt redundant for both of us to have a license.

That's changed although that being said, I had been playing other games, and I'm giving this one a go again since I can do both racing and practice driving when possible.

Hope that's a good answer.

I see, and well, thanks for answering my question.
A question about buying the licenses
Rossriders
S3 licensed
I have a question about buying the licenses since while I've searched the FAQ and the forums to an extent, I want to be absolutely sure about a few things before I buy one.

That being this - as much as I want to buy an S2 or S3 license right now, my budget dosen't allow it. I would like to purchase an S1 license now, and an S2 and S3 at a later time.

My key question is this - I'm aware S1 is £12, S2 is £24 and S3 is £36.

Say I buy S1 for the price listed (or whatever it ends up being far as being in America goes and anything else I may have to pay for), is S2 still 24 to update to S2?

And if so, would I be better off to buy all 3 stages at once?

It may be obvious what the answer is but I want to be very sure before I make any decision. I apologize if this has been asked ad infinitum and I simply was too inept to find the answer(s) I'm looking for.
