Spectated for Idling

Hello All,

I am still continually being spectated for idling while racing, anywhere between .5 and 3 laps into a race. Speedtest results, settings, etc are in this thread which I originally posted to:

https://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=76010

Lately I've been trying out simraceway and RR and have been able to race without any issue, so it's something particular to LFS.

I'm happy to provide any other details that may help solve this

Many Thanks
Rick

LFS.cl demo seems to work in TCP mode, but I did get spectated in UDP mode. There is rarely anyone there so I'm not sure how it will work when there are other participants. My lag time (is that the number next to my name in the network window?) is around 50-70ms.

Thank you!

MadCat, I will ask next time. I can confirm that depending on which server I'm playing on, shortly before being spectated, all the other participants vehicles on the map stop moving and if I happen to drive past them, I don't see a car but just the name and the lag time (in ms?) idle on the track.

Hi Guys,

Thank You DavidTiger,

My apologies in advance on my limited knowledge regarding port forwarding, etc.

I already have an exception in windows firewall for LFS.

My router has a firewall so I set up port forwarding for port 63992 for both TCP and UDP as per the LFS manual. I tried running on [AA] Blackwood GTI in UDP mode and made it through about 2 laps before getting spectated. I didn't try in TCP mode because I didn't want to risk getting spectated again and pissing everyone off.

So, did I open the right port and if so, what else should I try?

Thanks for all your help!

I can certainly check. It is a custom built machine based around an i7 with a very lean install of XP SP3. There are very few apps installed and everything else runs very quickly and smoothly, no crashes, hang ups, etc.

I got spectated again last night on lap 3 pf 5 at black wood. First 2.5 laps worked perfectly.

I'm not much of a gamer, so I don't have extensive experience, but I have used simraceway and race room a bit and they seemed to work fine. I also have no problem streaming HD video and uploading very large files (5-200 GB) for work regularly without any problems.

Anybody have suggestions? I'm a newbie and enjoying LFS very much, but don't see the point of upgrading from demo if I can't get this resolved.

Many thanks

I think you are looking at the wrong posters connection speed:

My speedtest results are as follows:
From the East Coast U.S. -> Europe (Oslo):
ping - 108ms
Down - 14.72 Mbps
Up - 8.24 Mbps

Locally:
ping -13ms
Down - 58 Mbps
Up - 35 Mbps

Hi All,

Well, I guess the problem is not solved, got spectated twice while in TCP mode, screen cap attached ..... any other ideas??

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

Switched to TCP and made it through an entire race no problems, except for my driving skills that is.....

Thanks!!!!!!

Hi All,

I am also having problems with lagging and constantly getting spectated for idling which is very frustrating for me and my fellow racers I'm sure. I am on the east coast in the US and got the following results with speedtest to Oslo:
ping - 108ms
Down - 14.72 Mbps
Up - 8.24 Mbps

with pingtest to Prague I got 178ms with 5 ms of jitter

I would think these numbers would be good enough....

I have a fast connection, locally with speedtest I'm getting 13ms ping, 58 Mbps down and 35 Mbps up.

I've attached a screen approximately when I got the warning.

Windows firewall is on but open for LFS, running AVG 2013 in the background, but that seems to cause no problem with latency, averaging around 200 us

Happy to provide any other details I may have forgotten....

Many Thanks

To answer Scawen, I believe I initially installed it in the default C:\LFS. It is now installed in C:\Documents and Settings\"my user name"\LFS

Will this cause any issues if I find the need to unistall?

Thank you Victor for addressing this in the upcoming update!

Cheers

With all due respect Boothy, that's developer error, not user error! It's not in the readme file included with the download or anywhere prominent in the wiki user manual, or as a sticky in the technical assistance forum page. Someone should not have to spend time searching for a bug in what is a rather routine function common to all apps. The uninstaller is broken and needs to be fixed, no excuses.

Fortunately, I keep images of my HD so it was a simple task to get everything back prior to installing LFS.

All Best

Nice to know after that fact. Developers - Don't you think a bug of that magnitude deserves a sticky right at the top of your forum??
LFS Uninstaller just uninstalled ALL of my applications

I was having problems with LFS Demo which I installed a couple of days ago. I figured re-installing would be a good first step. I used the LFS unistall app and it removed the .exe for EVERY SINGLE app in my program files folder (XP Pro). Not a happy camper right now.
