Ok, so removing DRM isn't strictly legal, but it is possible, i know there are quite a few programs that do it, but i cant remember what they are called (well, jHym and OurTunes spring to mind, but they are for iTunes!) Can anybody help me?

Digital Rights Management, I think the current version is DRM9 which as far as I know can't be removed without the legitimate license, in which case you don't need to remove it anyway as making a duplicate for your MP3 player is stealing an extra copy . I'm not sure about the current laws in the UK but I suspect they class any sort of copyright protection circumventing as illegal, don't do it kids

hehe, well the site i LEGALLY BOUGHT it from doesnt work with Firefox, Maxthon or IE7 Beta, only IE5.5-6, so i go on my mums pc, she presses play to see what it sounds like, put it on my pc and it wont play because i dont have the licence! doesnt work on my MP3 player either (well, at least not from my pc) so i am slightly annoyed!

You are legally allowed to make a backup of all digital media in the UK, but there is no law saying that you have the capability to do it.

So feel free to remove DRM from your files and copy them, once, fully legally in the UK.

Just don't hold out much hope on finding a solution outside of the pirate scene, which means you're going to have to delve in to the hotden of virus' and malware that is the p2p and warez scene.

I'd DL the song from 'elsewhere' with a clear conscience that you've rightfully paid for it and should be allowed to listen to it as and when you wish.

Another example of copywright laws punishing the paying user whilst doing little to halt piracy. In fact it's perpetuating piracy for this very reason.

Best way is not to get media files that have DRM in the first place, there are plenty of legalish (semi-legalish depending on your take of it all) places to get good cheap DRM free media.

due to coke offering free credit on their download site if you text a "winning code" (they are all winning, £1worth of texts got me £10 credit, plus the £10 i won a while ago), so i used there service, i am about to use MediaSource, i just am quite pissed off!

Technically it is of course possible. If you can find software that will play it back, it's possible to capture the sound output without even having to record it externally via analogue outputs and then feed it back into your line in (which is a pain, and potentially subject to much quality loss).

Futureproof solution: download DRM free music or just buy CDs (although many of those are now not technically red book compliant such is the extent of the silly anti-copying methods that will never work anyway...).

yeah, i can do it through Creative MediaSource, its just i thought (and know there is) an easier way, i just cant remember!

Burn to CD-RW, rip back off the CD. Its a pain, but if you use a RW, its the quickest, cheapest (in terms of processor usage) and simpliest way of doing it.

p.s. Dont buy DRM'd music. Software like Adobe Creative Suite is bad enough.
