Graphics/Glitch *Help Please*
hey guys, ill try to make it short

i have dell dimension 3000 < shit heap

i run 640x480 reso (sucks) and normally get 40-60fps and runs smooth but really shit graphics ( dont care about graphics )

went to harris technology and they put pci card in, came home and tried to install etc, kept stuffing round etc

i just took it out and switched it back to onboard graphics

and now when i play lfs it sits on around 15fps?

I have NO idea why, checked everything and its all fine?

*it also glitches with like google video etc*

ANY IDEAS please guys would be lots of help!
thanks!!!!!!!!
maybe the card fails..
what card?

the pci card? - one i bought

i took it out and back to onboard.
bump
Did you remember to correctly uninstall the PCI card drivers and install the onboard ones? Sounds like a driver problem to me.
Sorry Cj, thought you're talking about the gpu card. Try to take it out, and without it, try to play lfs. maybe your power supply has not enough power..

+1 at this... I was going to say the same thing

We'll try and go through this as systematically as possible. I'm not familiar with the Dell Dimension 3000. Can you give us a run-down of the specs, so we can get an idea of what its capabilities should be normally?

Also, first question out of the box is: When you had the PCI card in, did you increase the in-game graphics settings? If so, did you perchance NOT turn them down when you went back to on-board?
yeah i did put graphics up, and put it straight back down to

640x480
hey guys, reformatted pc

still only getting around 15fps but on the odd occasion it jumps to 40-60fps

still with onboard, WHY is it still glitching/laggin and on low fps

help please!
If you have reinstalled your OS and LFS and your drivers are ok (I still doubt this), the only possible reason for poor performance is that the graphical settings are higher than they used to be.
Also perhaps the redone cockpits causing more overhead perhpaps ?

I would test 2 seperate installs of LFS one version Y and your current one. Just to rule out that possibility.

According to the internet Dell dimension is :
Intel Celeron D 330 (2.66GHz) Processor
512MB PC3200 DDR Memory
80GB 7,200rpm Hard Drive
48x CD-RW Combo Optical Drive
AC'97 Audio with Dell A215 Stereo Speakers
Intel Extreme 2 Integrated Graphics with 64MB Shared Memory

Tbh those fps sounds about right 15-40 for the above system.
Are you sure you havn't put AA/AF on by accident in the Graphics option? That'll be sure to kill your FPS.
What is AA/AF ?

also upgraded to 1.25gb of ram a while ago

Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. They are 3D image quality improving techniques that your onboard graphics prosessor handles (or most probably can't handle).

You can turn them off in your video driver properties (right click on desktop -> properties -> advanced or something like that).
cant find it frokki
Quote from CJPhotography :cant find it frokki

Sorry, forgot one tab

right click on desktop -> properties -> settings tab -> advanced

But I have no idea how to go on from there since I don't have the similar drivers.
There may be "Application Control" ticked under both AA and AF, you should turn them off.
not there, look in everything :S

must be different, anyother way i can access that ?
went to lfs turned OFF EVERYTHING

such as
skin downloads
dust lod
user lod
skid
flag
trees
rubber
shaddow

absolutely everything, and all i see is NOHITNNG but a speed dial on my screen gay but meh i get good FPS sit around 3-80fps

went to a spot in as-cadet and stopped and got 120fps

when a car enters track or comes near me, glitches like a bitch and get around 10fps....

still problem guys PLEASE throw some ideas!!!!

frokki, cannot find AA/AF < thingy?
First off, it is a big possibility that your onboard graphics does not support AA/AF, so you wouldn't find the options in your graphics control panel.

Second, you can completely reset the LFS graphics by deleting a file. Go to the root LFS folder and find (someone correct if wrong please) find cfg.txt file. LFS will create a new one as it resets to default values in all of it's configuration settings.

Third, you mention the other card was a PCI card. If that is old PCI as opposed to the newer PCI-e, then it's quite possible your system RAM and onboard gfx chip is much faster than the old PCI card's chip and RAM. I was the same way when I put an older PCI card in my computer and disabled the onboard. Framerates dropped to less than half and unplayable until I went back to onboard.
LFS>DATA>GRIDS>cfg.rac ?
Nope. It's directly in your root LFS folder. I'm at work, so can't tell you the exact file. It was either cfg.txt or cfg.cfg, but that 2nd one just looks weird so I don't think that is it.
