I am an old S1 licensed user. I got distracted with other things and didn't play much after I registered. (World of Warcraft is evil btw!)

I recently saw an STCC race on YouTube and I thought it was the coolest thing that someone made a TV style broadcast for a league race. Watching it reminded me of how fun LFS is. So I grabbed S2 and registered it.


I have a preference for open wheel cars so I've decided to start working on the Formula XR. Eventually, I would like to start racing online, but right now I don't want to wreck other players or fall off the track every other lap. So I figured trying to get the benchmark at the various tracks would be a good idea. I've started to work on the classic Blackwood layout, which seems a no brainer, but my question is what are the other popular track layouts for this particular car online? I don't want to try and work on too many different layouts because it will be overload, so I'd like to concentrate initially on those that I will have a good chance of finding races on.

From the looks of the server list lately, I would say that the most popular tracks for that car are Blackwood and Aston Club.

Interesting, I am currently half away from LFS because I just got into WoW

Mini lan party ( i bring my iMac to my friend's house) + alcohol + WoW = fun

Aston Club is the most popular folowed by Blackwood.

Rule of thumb for LFS: the easier the combo, the more popular it is.

at redline racing servers we run 2 fox combo's blackwood and aston club, both are very popular and have good races on them,

I would recommend looking for the CTRA SS1 or whatever the server is called. It's the 1st tier single seater points server for the CTRA system. The 1st tier server runs FOX and has random automatic track rotation so that you don't get caught into the running one combo for the next 50 years like the ASNational/GTR and ASClub/FOX crowd does.

The CTRA system will also allow you do progress much like you mentioned since it is a points/licensing system setup. Very good racing, especially for the US, where the quantity of racers are limited.

(of course, I only assume the SS1 server is good racing. I'm not into the single seaters, but the tin-top CTRA servers have lots of good racing and I assume the SS CTRA servers do as well.)

Uh oh, say goodbye to your sim racing skills. The thing about WoW is that it is such a big investment in time, depending on what you want to do. Blizzard wants to keep you playing for as long as possible to keep collecting that monthly fee, so the game is designed as a time sink.

BL1, SO1, FE1, etc

Note: this post reflects difficulty to drive, not to master. I am ignoring how much fun battles can be on the track, concentrating rather on enjoyment from just mastering the track by yourself.

BL1: popular from demo, everyone knows it, is a bit boring in the FOX but suits most cars
SO1: simplest course from South City, chicane is challenging but otherwise it's far too simple
AS1: actually I like this track but it's not as popular as...
AS2: in FOX, zzz, better suited to something with plenty of power and not so much grip (like the FZ50)
AS3: only a couple of slow corners and some massive straights, not actually that bad but massively over-used in the GTRs
KY1: no comment

Westhill and Fern Bay seem a bit rare in the most populated servers - I like both.

andybarsblade - is it you that decides the combos for your servers? If so, I really hope your sex life is more varied than your servers.

i wish i had as many partners as we do racers,

but if you dont like the redline servers why not just not go on them rather than slagging them off, like saying that you like bl1 but not in a fox (redline 1) and that you think that as2 is zzzzz in a fox (redline 2)

Anyway, I wasn't specifically slagging off your(?) servers, rather commenting on the popular combos in general. Servers I race on (when the happens) wasn't part of the discussion, although I very rarely join any specific server, redline included. I pick a combo I fancy, find out there a no servers running it, repeat that a few times, then start my own server, drive where I want and inevitably get bored alone and go code something instead.
