Quote from Electrik Kar :Scawen (i think) did say though that he was going to work on them more, after patch V. You never know, if it wasn't for Dave, Scawen might have instead spent all his time enhancing and perfecting the engine, and tweaking the sounds, and by now we'd have awesome spectacular better than real-life sounds in surround sound!

/goes off to find Dave

Since people wanted some videos to compare, here are some:

Patch U sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68-3Ugw7cwM
Patch V sounds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXG2TJQgsoE
Patch W sounds (mine :P): http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3140969976597379310

I know they still sound crap, but I have many ideas for Scawen to try out when he is ready.

P.S. You can find some updates to the BF1, FZR and FZ5 HERE. However don't expect a miracle. Also, the post below mine in that thread, the FZ5 sound, is actually quite good. I may ask him if I can develop that further.

P.P.S How about if people try making the sounds better themselves if they don't like them? Everyone has the same tools available to them as I did.

This means you already have plans for further co-operation?

ps. When you're going to get "developer" promotion?

Well I really like (and use) your sounds for most of the cars. They're way better than the defaults and that's all we can really ask for.

And yes, I have edited a couple of the sounds that I wasn't entirely happy with, mainly changing wind volume, unevenness and muffling to suit my tastes.

So don't worry, I'll protect you from EK
Anyone else get the feeling from his silence that karlth was just winding everyone up?
Or... we just convinced him. He is just to ashamed to admit.
Or... he got overwhelmed and intimidated by the obvious depth of knowledge in the responses and realises that the LFS community is not easily blinded by the shallow "glitz and glamour" canned effects of so-called polished commercial offerings.
Quote from Forbin :Anyone else get the feeling from his silence that karlth was just winding everyone up?

Well some of us have families and have to work you know.

I have adjusted to the LFS sounds better now but still I prefer samples. The hair raising sounds of the GTR2 Lamborghini gunning down Serraglio at Monza cannot be beat and I vote for that above the delicate feedback you have mentioned from LFS.

I will agree though it is of course a question of personal preference.

The AI is very weak. Way too slow, blind and crash prone. I am seriously looking forward to the next update.

Nevertheless of all the racing simulators I still recommended LFS to a racing friend of mine and he just bought his copy a few days ago.

The reason why LFS is my preferred game at the moment is the physics, and only the physics. After having driven a real Caterham at speed and compared it to the LFS version it was just too good to let something like the AI or Sound ruin the experience.

So LFS it is until something better comes along (with a tiny dash of occasional rFactor F1 1979 thrown in).
Quote from karlth :physics, and only the physics.

You mean physics and online?

I do agree with you on the state of the AI though. It should be improved, and I suspect Scawen is pressing keys as we speak, that will do just that.

I appreciate your hard work and effort but to me Patch W killed a bit of LFS fun due to the sound. Patch V sounds much deeper and smooth. W sound just sounds like it's trying too hard. Now i understand there are clipping limits, etc so this is certainly not negative feedback to you.
I just thought that V sound was as good as it gets for LFS's current sound engine.
Quote from farcar :You mean physics and online?

The online experience is similar to GTR2 and rFactor. Little difference in my opinion.

The multiplayer in the original GTR was though pretty bad. Barely usable infact.

I can name only few people who still would prefer patch V sounds over W. I personally don't understand that
