Starting Grid AFK Auto-Spectate/Auto-Pit
Not sure if this has been suggested, but it could certainly help out pick-up races.

When the driver in front of you doesn't move when the lights go green it can cause some serious problems sometimes. Nothing like a stationary car on the racing line.

If you don't show any signs of being in your car, I.E. Rev the engine before lights go red, it could be usefull if LFS escorted you to start from the pit lane.

Of course, once it becomes possible to stall on the grid it wouldn't solve the problem completely.
You can also pay more attention at the start and react to the situation in front of you instead of sleeping until you reach t1. 10 cups of coffee do help

anyhow, some people do fall in sleep at the start in real life too, do something stupid, or let the engine die, So actually making a script for this kills the realism i guess

i actually have to disagree Mike.

In pickup races or where by there are typically long breaks between races, it is possible that several people will take the grid that are AFK...

With the iminent launch of X, i think that something could be done that that allows recognition of someone in a car, ie if by the last red light the throttle is not partially engaged and/or the first gear is active (with clutch in) etc that an auto spectating script....

Would make pickup races much cleaner i think...

people who make bad starts will make bad strats, but people not in the car on the grid should not be allowed to take the start... particulalry if a restart is voted for and the AFK people stat again on the grid..

Imo opinion it destroys realism, because suddenly you dont have freedom anymore, and i'd hate a game telling me what to do scripted down to the second.
But, something I've suggested in another thread in this section once, is a text box with 1 option under it.
Text box says like; do you wanna drive this race?
1 button says Yes, but you can see that the button will time out. If it times out it will spec you.

Imo a much better procedure to get rid of people who are afk, and not in any way stealing away from realism.

would this count down in time before the lights go red and after the restart count has been completed thou?
I guess it can, and something like this can be made in the new insim.

and iirc, you can also stall a restart if the admin keeps giving /restart's. I remember 1 annoying admin who did that once
Just keep in mind that someone might not start and be ready to dodge them. Simple as that.
Put it down to a mechanical failure or engine stall and go around them. If you can't avoid a stationary car when you're pulling away from the line you don't deserve to be on the track at all.

The only reasonable alternative is having a join confirmation, so that only people who choose "yes" before a restart were placed on the grid. But that would make the restart process a lot more clunky.

Except when it causes a massive pile-up in front of you. Especially on Random starting order servers, where you could be fastest but start mid-back pack.

And then the car sometimes will just sit there throughout the race, making it difficult to race down the front straight-away.

I'm sorry but that is codswallop

too many times there are several cars in front that are afk and you have people hitting them and physics bugs etc etc that means a crash happens....
It's not as simple as expecting someone not to start and dodging them though. There are often pauses at the start, where the car infront will lag and appear not to be moving. If you always dodge to the side when this happens, just incase they may really not be moving, it will ruin your start. With patch X, this will be worse, too. It's a lot more likely now that someone may be beside you just after the start, so dodging to the side is likely to cause an accident.

I don't know if you've noticed, but the positions of the cars around you are very unpredictable in the first couple of seconds of a race, as LFS's prediction code can't predict someone's reaction times and where they will drive on the start. This means that cars will often jump around in the first second or so.

Quote from Markz :This would DEFINITELY help a lot, especially if the race is loaded up with a bazillion cars. I'm sure we'd all appreciate that rolling block two spaces in front of you to be automatically poofed out of your way but I agree with mikey, this would take away from the realism.

Like he said, this happens in real life, and the cars don't just disappear from the track.

although patch X has increased field sizes, i'm sure it has not quite reached the bazillion mark quite yet
