VERL 2025 - Round 1
V8 Racing League 2025
Round 1

Sunday,21st September
17:00 UTC / 19:00 CET / 20:00 EET

4th season of the turbo era brings a car with reduced power to increase drivability - losing 100 horsepower and even more torque, the new 2.2 liter engine should be much more tame for untrained throttle foot. Containa Grand Prix of Blackwood has been moved from the tricky, dusty and bumpy Container sprint track to more standard Grand Prix track - 2 long straights,a hairpin,a chicane and turns rich 2nd half of track describes the 3.3km LFS classic, lappable in just over 1 minute.

Activity in singups thread currently is low - we can only try to imagine who will actually set the tone in this season, but when the waiting game stops,we'll know much better the favourites of becoming 2025 V8 Racing League season - will it be another new name or 2nd repeated champion?

Despite car being made more controllable, the new season of VERL started just like the previous one ended - with shortened race due low attendance. Only 7 drivers of 11 signups arrived, one of them left before end of qualifying, other - before reaching required 2/3 of race to be classified.

The 2-time series vice-champion and 2-time race winner was the driver of the day - Unite was the only one to beat 1:04 laptime during qualifying and slowly run away from competition during the race, however during last few laps lost half of his lead and finished just over 4 seconds ahead of competition. Madjester qualified 4th (his best result by a single position in the league) and early attempt to improve position failed, but he recovered and during last 1/3 of the race was the fastest driver on track, setting even the fastest lap of the race as only driver beating 1:04 mark during the race - the pace helped him to progress up to 2nd position, keeping it to race finish - 2 positions better than his previous best achievement in VERL. Series creator was able to run several laps in 2nd position, however few mistakes demoted him to 3rd place in finish, still 4th podium finish in row in the league.

After round 1 Unite leads by 2 points over Madjester and 4 over Rony - in theory a new driver taking all possible points in remaining 2 rounds (if not shortened) can still tie current leader in points even if he finishes 2nd in both races, therefor championship is still wide open for anyone. Owen takes lead in rookie of the year standings, however without 2nd rookie driver finishing a race this award won't be given.

Teams standings are exactly the same as drivers standings as each driver represented different team - the defending 3-time teams champions S1dus currently lead SGR by 2 points and RGA by 4. There is slight difference in nations standings - Finland as only country with more than 1 driver has 5 points lead over Portugal, starting the defence of their title,Latvia is 3rd with 7 points gap to leader.

Round 2 will be the first ever visit to Rockingham with the current series car,so it will be a new challenge to series drivers - now the question is,how many will dare to accept the challenge in season's slowest and trickiest track.
