VR Question
Hi guys. Just in the market for a VR headset. I know nothing about VR other than I want to play LFS in VR. So, my question is what VR headsets are compatible with LFS? And how would I go about setting that up?

Thanks!
Yes u can use VR. Just go to options => view and on top change 2D to 3D, chose ur headset (Oculus or OpenVR - basically any other), resolution and monitor view (preview of what u see in headset).

Pretty much every headset works with OpenVR (AKA SteamVR)

How would I go about setting it up? My friend has a Quest 2 i’m gonna borrow and test with today. Again, I know next to nothing about VR so I have no idea what i’m doing. I think i’ll tool around the internet and find some answers.
Assuming headset is installed and tested.

Then in LFS, as versiu said:

Options - View - 3D (at top of screen)
Select Oculus (I think... even if it's a Meta, though OpenVR might also work if SteamVR is installed)

That should be it, would be good to hear if you got it working.

Lord Scawen. Thank you! I will test this when I get home. Steam VR is not installed but I will do that. Currently at work browsing the LFS forums.I’ll let you know what happens.
As far as I know, the Oculus (or is it Meta?) software has to be installed in any case for you to use the Quest, and then I believe that if LFS can connect directly using "Oculus" mode, that should theoretically be better than also going through SteamVR as that is another layer on top.

Would be using a Quest 2. I’m a little confused. Do I install an app on the Quest to connect to my PC? Should I use a cord? Can I do it wirelessly? Is SteamVR an app that needs to be downloaded on both devices?
I'll try to make it clear as I know there are a lot of names flying around.

The quest is a Meta product so I think you have to install Meta or Oculus software to use it. For that, I think you can search the internet.

So then, all being well, you can use the device on your computer and view a demo, etc.

LFS has native Oculus support so I believe it can connect to the Quest using the "Oculus" option in the 3D menu (no need to install SteamVR).

But it's a long time since I installed any Oculus software so although I believe that works, I would like it confirmed if you can try that.

About the OpenVR / SteamVR option:

The OpenVR option in LFS allows support for most headsets in the world, and for that, SteamVR needs to be installed.

It is my understanding that SteamVR also can provide access to an Oculus / Meta headset, for programs that do not natively support Oculus. LFS would try to take that path if you select the OpenVR option.

Thank you for clearing that up. I will test this and let you know when I am home. Sorry for misunderstanding what you meant, just got confused with the names and stuff.

Thanks!
i confirm, meta quest 3 run fine for LFS Wink

Thanks. Do you select "Oculus Rift" setting in the Options - View - 3D - VR headset dialog?

I ask as these days it's a bit strangely named in LFS and could possibly cause confusion.

Like: You want to use a "Meta Quest" so select "Oculus Rift". Uhmm

It's still the Oculus software on PC. A more "apt" name for it would just be "Oculus/Meta" as it includes the ancient Oculus Rift/Rift S headsets but also the Quest line (which were also initially called Oculus and then became called Meta because Facebook rebranded it all)

Although pretty much everyone has moved to OpenXR as it's a "consistent" standard that supports all headsets and other headsets natively like Pimax which can then be used without SteamVR.

Many people these days also opt to not use Oculus Link for PC connectivity as it lacks certain customization options for performance/picture quality as well as poor reliability and instead use things like Virtual Desktop which connects wirelessly (or via USB-C networking) as a SteamVR headset.
