AWS 2021 - Round 5
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2021
Round 5

Monday,1st March
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

The 2021 penultimate round brings AWS to streets around Westhill's raceway - on the support roads we have set up a 9 kilometers long temporary circuit featuring plenty of high speed sections and tricky turns. Circuit is not surrounded with barriers or armcos,so there are few dangerous sections, where running off track can lead to crash into stationary objects like posts and trees,so everyone should be extra careful in this round. Also everyone should stay fair and respect track limits by having at least 2 wheels on paved surface at all times - cutting too much or running wide exiting turns might lead to position losing penalties.

Current series standings looks like a videogame points scoring from nineties - top3 have rounded their points count to tens. This round will decide, who will still be in for championship fight and who will be left out and help only in teams or nations standings. Also this is the last round where new drivers can still join this season of AWS as only drivers, who have scored at least one point will be allowed to participate in season finale. Additionally this will be the deciding rounds for RB4 Master award - leading 2 drivers are currently seperated by a single point!

PENALTIES:
LLM V. Laguckas - receives a disqualification from this and next round for unsportsmanlike conduct leading to incident involving several other drivers.

The slower all wheel drive car RB4 came back to Westhill for another tricky race of Westhill Street Cup,the AWS round run on Westhill's support roads around the raceway. The shortened Westschleife version might be shorter and contain less turns, but featured higher speed sections, thus increasing the danger during the race. Most drivers dealt well with the dangers, but to keep the car on actual legal racetrack was difficult for some.

There were no stopping of series leader R.Kardol also in this round - he had a safe gap to closest rivals in qualifying and during the race there was no real competition either as the dutchman pulled almost a half a minute distance over the closest rival during the 40 minutes race, underlining his performance with a new track record in penultimate lap of the race. Top2 positions finished in same order as series standings, meaning those won't be changed, just gaps increasing - Dzidoris overtook his countryman early and secured his 2nd place finish by pulling away from chasers. Unfortunatelly there was an incident in the final lap involving 4 drivers,Michal was the luckies of them all and grabbed the final podium finish.

No changes in top2 as said above, just the gap has increased by 4 points - R.Kardol now leads the table by 14 points over Dzidoris, meaning that he has to score just 3 points (11th position) in final round to secure AWS 2021 Drivers Championship,no other drivers are theoretically eligible for series title. There are 2 drivers who can still steal the 2nd position from Dzidoris, but they're both are 15 points behind 2nd place - both Unite and Sobis should more focus on each other to take at least the 3rd place in series table. Defending champion Botsi currently is 7th and can climb to top5 at the best.

Currently best rookie Fatass did not attend this round, but still keeps his lead - his advantage is reduced to 1 point though,so this title is on the line in the final round of the season.

Westhill Street Cup was the final round for the RB4 Master award and the leader of this table won the round, meaning that already 2nd award is secured for his - R.Kardol takes the RB4 Master award of this season,Dzidoris is 2nd and is the only other driver to win an RB4 round. Sobis takes 3rd position, finishing in top5 just once. Defending champion Botsi attended in just 1 round for this award and is classified 10th.

Besides 3 smaller individual awards, also the Teams Championship is on the line in the final round of the season - S1DUS and defending champions RGE are in points tie situation before the season finale, where S1DUS leads the tiebreaker by 4 wins to 1. Also the remaining step on the podium is yet to be decided as LLM and MRC are seperated by a single point. But in Nations Cup the situation is slightly different - defending champions Lithuania are 11 points ahead of closest challenger Finland,Netherlands is 3rd and very likely will keep it's position.

Season finale will be carried out in the Kyoto Oval, which has always hosted the fastest round of AWS - Winter 200,a 200km race featuring teamwork based racing. Full details on the round will be posted early in next weekend, but experienced drivers surely knows what to expect.
