AWS 2021 - Round 4
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2021
Round 4

Monday,15th february
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

The second half of the season starts with the AWS origins round - FXR rallycross. The "unproper" combo is practically a trademark of the series and demands from the drivers everything - car control under slippery conditions, pacing yourself to not overdrive tyres, focus through whole race and dealing with competition on a track which gets even narrower due cars not driving with wheels in line. The track is deffinitelly very familiar to most LFS racers, especially those who started with demo and enjoyed rallycross races there. Circuit is just over 1.8 kilometers long and features two of both paved and unpaved sections, where the paved section has practically not corners, just entries towards unpaved turns, which is enough to heat up the tyres drastically, while few bumps and a jump on the unpaved section requires well balanced suspension setting.

Current series leader R.Kardol has lost a big portion of his lead in previous round and might lose even more - his current closest rival Dzidoris has won last 3 editions of this round, while defending series champion Botsi, currently 3rd in standings, finished in strong 2nd position last year, meaning that he has some valuable experience in this tricky combo.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If the new stable patch is released between time of this post and round start, server will be updated at earliest possibility! We will NOT use test patch for this round,so please make sure you have a backed up copy of a compatible version (0.6U16 is latest compatible version)!

The origins race of the slippery series was as always a huge challenge - probably for the last time AWS had this "unproper" combo of slick tyre wearing cars in rallycross as next season should provide drivers with more tyre options for racers. As always there were mixed thoughts about this race - some liked it,some not,but everyone one had to agree that it was difficult.

Current AWS Drivers Championship standings leader R.Kardol came well prepared to this round and was the only one to break the 59 seconds per lap mark - and that in both sessions. His bid for race win was poorly challenged and the dutchman finished more than half a minute ahead of closest rival - full 17 points from the round well earned. Unite did not qualified for the 3-wide front row,but 4th position on grid was converted into 2nd place early on in race and kept until finish line. Sobis had even better progress between start and finish - he andvanced 7 positions to finish 3rd,which is his 3rd podium finish in row in this specific round. Winner of previous 3 Blackwood RXGP editions Dzidoris did not had the pace of previous years and finished 4th.

With standings leader winning also the championship lead increases - R.Kardol's gap over Dzidoris has grown from 3 points to 10,Sobis currently is 3rd another 10 points behind. With 2 rounds still ahead, currently just 7 drivers can theoretically win the Drivers Championship (defending champion Botsi is one of them) while with some fortune the title can be secured already after next round.

Fatass still leads Rookie of the Year standings, while his closest rivals have been changed - now he's followed by Climbs, who is 5 points behind,Redbot it 3rd with 7 points gap to leader. Best rookie is currently 10th in overall table.

2 of 3 FXR Master rounds are now complete and lead has been taken by winner of this round - R.Kardol, who is 8 points ahead of Unite and 9 ahead of last year's award winner Dzidoris. The decision for this award will be made in season's final round at Kyoto oval. But Cross Challenge award has already been decided as it was 2nd of 2 rounds - R.Kardol won both rounds and automatically takes the award. 2nd best is Unite,3rd - 2019 award winner Sobis. Defending champion Trespasser has not signed up for this year's series.

Despite leading team being represented by a single driver,Team S1DUS still leads the Teams championship, but defending champions keep nibbling the gap away - it's been reduced by another point and is just 4 points now. 2-time champions LLM are 3rd,but already 48 points away and has only theoretical chances for 3rd title,MRc is the last theoretical challenger. Different situation is in Nations Cup - defending 4-time champions Lithuania incresed it's recently gained lead and is now 5 points ahead of Finland. Netherlands is still 3rd with Czechia in 4th are last candidates for the title.

Next round might be featuring the longest lap of the AWS history (to be confirmed) - the custom course layed out in Westhill's support roads is 9 kilometers long and can be completed in around 4 minutes. The shorter version of known Race Green Events course Westschleife is called Westschleifenring and will draw a lot of focus of the drivers with it's high speed narrow roads threating with high car damage for small mistakes.
