AWS 2020 - Round 2
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2020
Round 2

Sunday,26th January
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

After the 3 weeks break AWS is back for action with it's usual event per 2 weeks schedule and the action will start quite dusty! Last year's series visit to this track proved to be intense, there is high chance that this year will not be different - wide variety of possible fast lines through turns will create side by side racing and give chance to regain position after being passed. With laptime under half of a minute every driver having 1 second lower pace will be lapped at least 3 times, creating a lot of variables all the way through the race.
As usually the qualifying system is different from other rounds,as in oval only hotlap qualifying shows truly the fastest driver while on track this short traffic might become a huge issue. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last, season newcomers will follow after them in signups order. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional,in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

In the 1st round the series newcomer (while being very experienced in other events) Botsi dominated the race and scored all possible points - this might show where "the wind is blowing" in this season, but with 4 different rounds to come there's a lot of chances for changes in current path. Besides main championship, teams and nations championships, this race will count towards 3 different smaller awards and it's 1st of 2 races to all of those awards - a great chance for everyone to make a big step towards winning any of those.

This Dusty 100 was quite different from the one last year - probably mostly because of better preperation as drivers knew what to expect. Better pace, less position changes - last year only 4 cars finished on lead lap, this year - 7,while in qualifying 3 drivers set a laptime better than last year's pole position time. Still - a total of 400 left turns never gave a chance to relax and only first 2 of those weren't led by Trespasser. The "oval junkie" from other series joined AWS action this sunday and proved his skills in this specific track type, even if the surface was different - Trespasser started from outside of 1st row,cut to the inside when exiting turn 1 and grabbed the race lead in turn 2,which he never gave up despite late race pressure. The polesitter Unite had to chase hard, but left without success - he could not regain the early lost lead and finished 2nd. Winner of 1st round Botsi finished 3rd,chased by defending champion (in both round and series) Sobis, who finished 4th.

Since it was 1st round of the season for 2 highest finishers,Botsi kept his series lead and even extended it by 6 points - he now has a 10 point gap over closest rival Mandula,Ngottini is 3rd another 2 points behind. Defending champion Sobis joined the series with this round and currently is 10th with rather low chances to defend his title. Since the table is led by a series rookie,no need to specify Rookie of the Year standings leader,Ngottini is 2nd in this category.

The round 2 counted towards 3 different minor championships consisting of 2 rounds - RB4 Master,Cross Challenge and Oval Trophy. Standings in all these 3 tables are the same - Trespasser leads Unite on tiebreaker. The Cross Challenge will end as first of these - the 2nd round of it is the next round in series.

The 4-time champions in Teams championship Race Green Autosports are now on course towards the 5th title - also in 2nd round the hosting team scored most points and increased the gap to closest followers Team S1dus,which is now 11 points behind. Teho Motorsports is 3rd with 23 points gap to leaders. The defending 3-time champions in Nations cup Lithuania increased their performance in this round, but still scored 1 point less than current leaders Finland, which is now 11 points clear of them,Hungary was pushed down to 3rd with double of Lithuania's gap to Finland.

2 weeks apart from this round the next one is scheduled and that will be the "base" round of the slippery series - Blackwood RXGP,run with the FXR. Lack of proper tyres makes this car tricky to drive, but far from impossible,as a good driver will beat 1 minute mark in the Blackwood Rallycross course - unreachable for almost all LFS cars. Learning the car's traits on gravel is the key to succeed in next round,so drivers must make sure to have enough practice before aiming for high results.
