The online racing simulator
Can't join with non uploaded skin.
Was trying to have a 1on1 sesh with a friend.
And apprarently you have added an ?skin check?.
If the skin aint uploaded to LFSworld, you can't join the race.
Why is this ?
Thankfull for clarification.
That is so people don't drive around with skins that aren't uploaded to LFS World. Smile

Just upload it, it's not hard to do!

Or if you do want a plain white car, just select the default skin.

How often is this checked ?

Say I am in a race and I see someone in a skin I know I have uploaded.
If I remove it from LFSW would they be booted next time they joined the race from garage ?
But if I want to drive with an work in progress or just dont want it uploaded ?
Pretty dumb thing imo.

Maybe could specify it to public hosts, and on hidden have it non restricted ?

They would be spectated, unless they rename and reupload it.
If it's a WIP, decide a name and upload a placeholder...

Useful when race is full then Wink

LOL, yes Smile
But I'd guess they wouldn't be specced until a new attempt was made to fetch the skin - e.g. someone new joining the server. Easy to test tho Wink
I believe it's only spectating you when you leave the pits.

I don't like this feature. My skins are too large for LFS World. So now if I want to use my skins at all in LFS I have to make a poor-quality version and then upload it. I'd like to see this feature removed. I also have hundreds of skins so uploading them all to LFS World is not practical.
LOL, you can still use 2048, 4096, ... skins localy Razz

Oh, I'll just stay offline then? You still need a skin uploaded to LFS World to use a skin locally.
1. Create a 4096x4096 skin
2. Put it to your skins folder
3. Load in LFS ...
4. Copy skin to separate folder and resize to 1024x1024
5. Upload to LFSW resized skin using the same name as one that is 4096x4096 //obviously you had to do that before if you wanned others to see your skin, and ever since LFSW accept only 1024x1024 skins
6. Use it online
7. Profit? Big grin

Only purpose of that check it to stop people using skins that others can't see (white car). You can still use 4096x4096 skins no matter what on your own computer (localy), but other people (remote) will see your skin as 1024x1024 version. I don't see any issues/problems with that feature. Shrug

Thanks for telling me a bunch of stuff I already know.

You assume that I want to share all of my skins on LFS World - I don't.
You assume I care if somebody has a white car - I don't.
You assume that I have time to make a low quality version of all my skins - I don't.
You assume that it is all about resolution - it isn't, even most of my 1024 skins are too big for LFS World.

For me this feature is a pain in the arse. If you want to use custom skins it is now mandatory to use LFS World. LFS has always had the best support and features for skinners. Let's face it - it's the only part of the sim that we can truly mod. This feature is no use to me at all. It's an unecessary annoyance. Another hoop to jump through before you can go online. The public server experience has always been so dreadful that I haven't joined one in over five years anyway. If I did join a public server I couldn't care less if a bunch of wreckers can see my custom skin or not, but more likely it is that I'd be lapping alone for an hour and not see another racer, let alone the skin they are using.

Jeez, that's a poor attitude from anyone, never mind a mod.
He may well have told you a bunch of stuff you already knew, but I suspect that in fact he was trying to help you.
And while I'm baffled about why you'd want a custom skin in the first place if you don't want anyone else to see it, quite frankly I don't care.
This "feature" is implemented for how long now? Two years? And finally somebody found out he can complain about it? Great you discovered there is an online version of LFS.

It has an important reason why this is happening you know, but I am not going to bother to explain. Should have been there when the matter was discussed.

// and guess what.. With a 5 minute test I found out that it's perfectly possible to drive locally with a different skin then the skin which is on LFSWorld. There is only a check on name. (Which is an old joke to skin robbers anyway. Updating the skin with a large dick online while the skin robber has no clue he drives around with a dick on his hood because he sees the locally stored version). All this fuss about nothing.

So if I use a blank jpg with a skin's name uploaded in LFSW - it will show a skin to others online?
Yes, you can trick the system if you want to. It has been this way for a long time now, so it's nothing new. The problem was that many people used to drive around without uploading their skin, as if it was in some way difficult to use our system. We've made it really easy to use so there's no reason not to do it.

The point of a skin is not so that you can see your car's interesting paint job, while others see a white car. That is not the idea at all. In fact you as the driver can't see much of the skin. So it is about how your car appears to others. I feel silly saying this, it's so obvious!

I realise that there are some people who are intent on driving around with a skin that is a secret known only to them and they don't want anyone else to see it. I don't try to understand the reason for this, as I don't need to. It's pretty obvious that you can upload a plain white skin called XFG_SECRET_SKIN.jpg while your own local version of XFG_SECRET_SKIN.jpg has your top secret design on it. We aren't stopping you doing that. We're not doing a CRC check on the skins. This isn't about law enforcement. It's about encouraging people to use the automatic skin download system we have provided.

What we have stopped, with this system, a long time ago, is the hundreds of people driving around with skins on their cars but too lazy to upload it to LFS World. They just had to log in and look for the upload skin button... problem solved!
Only reason I can think of is that some might enjoy having a skin containing pornographic material, while clearly you aren't supposed to upload such a skin Razz

Quote :DO NOT upload skins with offensive images!
If a skin that contains nudity, pornographic, racist or any other offensive content is uploaded, the skin(s) will be removed without notice and you will no longer be allowed to upload skins here.
Keep it fun, people of all ages play LFS.

btw I was able to play earlier this day on cargame without ghost car problem, but now it seem the problem is come back Frown.

I found a solution by using a vpn before connecting but my ping is implayable in most case...

I just dont feel like uploading my vob mod skins publicly since I only use them in private sessions.

Back to my suggestion erlier;

Have that skin check on pubic hosts and leave it out on hidden hosts ? Shoudnt that be possible ?
Yup, should be possible, I imagine, but why wouldn't uploading some plain white skins (with matching names) also fix your problem?
I wont waste skin slots ? (even tho i know 50 is plenty. lol)
Ah...
Help me out here though - if the guy you're racing with in this one-on-one session can't see your skin (cos you haven't uploaded it), then what is the point of having the skin in the first place? (If you're in the cockpit view, you can't even see it yourself.)
We share the skins over skype in highres ofc.. :P Its always with friends. No random date. lol
