The second guy you have there would be a good Nascar commentator, Madman. "Count the laps... one lap! Two laps! Three..." (I could go on.)

Quote from yegadoyai :He [Brundle] is even fairly level headed about his patriotic duty and will happily support DC if he happens to do well.

Yes... And I'm sure Brundle's constant rose-tinted view of DC has nothing to do with the fact that he is DC's manager.

James Allen is a cock, undoubtedly. Brundle's commentary is good and he's very knowledgeable, but his connections and fingers in other pies often make me question whether we get a whole story on some issues.
Sure, it's death to follow Murray Walker. It'd be like being in Nickelback and having to go on stage after Metallica (as if). But if Allen was a decent commentator, following Murray wouldn't be such a problem because we all know Murray is the best there'll be ever and no comparison is possible.

I don't mind Martin's commentary. I think another ex-driver sitting next to him would be a much better combination than what we have currently. Brundle and another former pilot - anyone but Alan Jones - would be a good team

I have one annoyingly loud word for Mr Allen and it probably sums up what we all feel: "GOOOOOO!"

LMAO! I used to work for Fox's Music in Leeds, in the "Rock Shop". We used to BAN people from the shop for playing Stairway To Heaven!

Quote from thisnameistaken :The only time I ever had any trouble in Fox's was when I went in there with my friend Matt once (he's now LFS racer: "bluefoot" ) and he insisted on demonstrating to me a technique for creating vibrato involving turning the tremelo arm on a floyd rose system so it stuck out the back of the guitar, and then whacking it with the palm of his hand. Perhaps predictably, this did not go down very well at all with the shop monkeys...

ROFLMAO!!! Eeeek! I can see that going down a storm!! LOL!!

I really must drop back in there some time and see if any of the old faces are still there. It's many years since I've been back to visit. They were good times, despite the pay. It's the only job I've ever had where days off were regarded as a nuisance, and usually ignored. I'd love a job that I felt that way about, again!

Poor Matt!

I do remember Alpha, though I didn't spend much time there. When I worked for Fox's, Carlsbro had just opened on the road out of town, and were just getting up to speed. A few of us took better-paid jobs up there (me excluded, I got a job in Bradford). I had the hots for Gail Fox, so that was a bit of a yank!

Fox's rock shop were always the badboys of the Fox empire, and it was difficult for us to coax rockers into the building. "Old Man Fox" was absolutely the epitomy of "young Mr Grace", and used to stagger around the store, wandering aimlessly up to long-haired customers, saying things like "do you work for me, young lady?"

Quote from thisnameistaken :I've currently got my eye on a matching fretless 5 on eBay but it'll mean staving off the tax man for a couple of months if I buy it... Dare I?

Quote from thisnameistaken :...Van Halen's "Jump"...

hehehe! That might just as well have been our doorbell, downstairs! We knew a customer was coming when we heard that

The guys at Carsboro were a good bunch (I'm assuming they still are).. they were always willing to reload the original sounds on my Korg M1 (yes, I'm THAT old) when I'd trashed them. I could only ever really window-shop in those days (not that that's changed!). I still have the M1 though I never get it out, but I can't bear to Ebay it. It's still worth more to me than the money it'd fetch.

That fretless 5 is calling you!

Quote from thisnameistaken :...if I can get it for £800 I might have to do it.

That's 2x as much as I paid for my new car, yanno! The cambelt snapped on my old one the other day, on the way home from the ukct pissup. Last time I saw that car, it was abandoned in the middle of Bradford. There won't be much left of it now, I spect

OMG.. Frank Zappa's "ship arriving too late to save a drowning witch" was the inspiration to every doodle I ever made, on every phonebook, in every café, in every town I ever visited!

I managed to pick up a 1.8 turbo diesel for £425 this time around. If I'd spent any more, I'd have defeated the purpose in buying a diesel. It's an N reg Ford Escort, and I hate Fords with a passion! Needs must!
For entertaining, knowledgable and friendly sounding commentators; watch MotoGP on British Eurosport.
I say, "James Allen Out, Ben Edwards In!".

Any Englishman that names his child 'Enzo' needs a slap. His bias towards Ferrari is becoming really annoying. He was planting the blame at Fisi left, right and center when Michael's front wing was hanging off in Hungary (2006). This was before the replay showed it was clearly Schu's mistake.

I remember reading somewhere that, if you find it hard to stay awake during a Grand Prix. Train your dog to bark every time James says, "Certainly is".

PS. If you haven't noticed Mr. Allen's constant use of the phrase "Certainly is" then I apologise. As you will no doubt want to shoot me in the face for bringing it to your attention.

Certainly is
He makes me want to buy this shirt.

OMG he pissed me off so much, when that Robert Kubica was on his out lap for the very first session of qualifying James Allen was ranting on saying stuff like, "a star is born" and "remember where you were" all before this guy had even qualified and he'd not even done a race....

....ARGH, it's getting me annoyed just thinking about it!

**** YOU James Allen.

what's the matter with Alan Jones? he is the former F1 driver, right? oh no wait, I meant John Watson, who was paired up with Ben Edwards in good old Eurosport times when they still showed F1 from friday practise session till the race live. I miss that so much, those two were really good on making the commentary interesting. Here in Hungary we have two arseholes covering the race, they are so stupid, I bet they are much worse than your James Allen!

Although recently an ex sim racer (GPL champion, Gábor Wéber, he is racing touring cars nowdays in the hungarian championship) is pairing up with one of the arses, he is quite ok, has decent technical knowledge, but he is not the commentator type really, although he has improved quite a bit since the start.

I wish I had a channel to watch F1 in English...even the German guys at RTL are better, although I really dislike Heiko Wassers' voice...german guys should know why
Well, I've been to the ITV website and told them to take stock of the situation. This is not the only place I've found a "James Allen you're a twat thread" so I told them to check out some sites and review thier policy. I suggest everyone here goes along and leaves them a little message. If 2 complaints to BBC can get an advert banned then I'm sure that a couple of hundred messages of dispair can at least get them to ask him to sharpen up his commentary.

*gasp* I hope you're not serious.

But yeah John Watson and Ben Edwards absolutely rocked. You could get them on the A1GP live streams last year. Wasn't bad but their enthusiasm sounded a bit faked to me, or maybe that was just because my own enthusiasm for the series wasn't that high.
Anyone who has any sympathy for James 'the cock' Allen should read the following quote :P

"Kimi Raikonnen there struggling to control the car. It must take him back to the Finnish Fjords skidding around on the ice struggling for grip from his rear wheels"

TWAT!
Also when they done a grid thing showing where drivers were, he said Alonso (i think) was down in..whatever position..alongside a Midland driver (forgot the names) 'He probably doesn't even know who he is'

F1 drivers all know each other, just because someone is slower Alonso or any other driver won't turn their nose up at them. Pompus twat.

I hope to god autosport do a cartoon with Jenson Button having James Allen spit shine his Honda
Whats a fjord? Better search that one :P

edit. Hehehehehehhehhhhhheeeeeee, that guy is way off in geography
And I think they can't even get covered in ice...

I hate James Allen!
