The online racing simulator
South City Incomplete Hi-Res Texture Pack
Hey guys,

I was working on these last month for one week, and now I'd like to hear is this worth continuing. The most of the tarmac area is
ready, and some walls, grass, houses, concrete, ads and other textures here and there.

I'm not sharing any files yet, only showing some pictures from the track. But tell me your opinion about the track. I'm not sure if
I continue with this project or not, because I know there are plenty of guys who are much more talented, but I considered to
try at least and then see what is the result.

I forgot to set up the best possible texture quality to the original game, but
I guess you can still see how big is the difference.

Ops, forgot to crop the text away.. well never mind. I hope it doesn't bother you

E:

So, I'm gonna publish now the very pre-alpha version of my texture package. I hope you guys don't have too big expectations to this published content,
and I want you to be aware that there are still lot of mistakes (reflections, linings etc.). By publishing the current content I just wan't to show you what
kind of stuff I'm able to do.

Long story short, check it out yourself here.

Looks good
Keep it up
asphalt texture might be a little too large, but keep it up
I like it, keep up the work!
Lookin good, can't wait to see more.
Thank you for comments, much appreciated.

I continued this today and made new barriers and some missing tarmac textures.

From these pictures you can see that thin white line there. It's not big job to remove it, but it just has left there. If I fully complete this, I will remove it for sure.

But yeah, some photos of what I've done today

White-Black Barrier, Logitech Ad Barrier

Road markings ("arrows")

Sewer textures, Pirelli Ad Barrier

Lines look quite bad, and maybe those sewers don't fit so well in this environment. Probably, I'm going to change them.

Sewers really don't fit in my opinion, everything else looks good. Keep going
Contrast somehow bothers me.. colors look like from cs 1.6 or something
Quote from DANIEL-CRO :WOW, great work!

is it possible to make that texture on down-left corner of pic less zoomed? I mean like something more similar to rest of track

Thank you!

The most of the track is actually with that "more zoomed" texture. It is certainly possible, but I want to have a little variety between different parts of the tarmac. You're right on that there is too big "edge" between those two. I'll fix that.

Hmm, I'll try to darken the color or something else, and then insert different variations here. Tell me more then..

Did you ever think that you should release the final results for the 24h race before you started with this?

Not really relevant comment, but fine then..

I think textures might be too dark, there is something about colors that just dont match.. asphalt texture looks like its from different scenario than curbs etc.
Try to match the same contrast/saturation with to all textures. And don't make shadows too dark

also, make curbs fold or something from the edge, so the curb ends smoothly.. everything look kind of flat now but it'll be easily fixed.
Some new stuff again..

Traffic lights - and the lower ... he opposite of the road.

Backside of the ad

New surface of parking garage

New "distance plates"

Share your opinion, if you'd want something to be changed, etc, what do you think of these.

Preferably, stick to the topic of this thread. The final results of the 24 hour race will come soon.
I'm doing these when I can't do anything to speed up publishing. Unfortunately these things don't depend just on me.

hmm, can't you upload your pics as attachments? I can't view them, at least not while I have Ghostery running, and it blocks more than 10 services just from that site.
Sure.
Thank you all for showing interest.

I'm probably going to publish the unfinished pack soon. Just because you'll get the
best vision from the game itself, obviously. Most of the textures are ready, but still
some files need to be edited before publishing the final version.

So, stay tuned.

Aaand, I've got some footage of the new content, again.

Looks good, but I think a more weathered look could do.
The buildings and such look like they were just built/installed, or with a crazy enhancement filter in photo processing.
Also, the asphalt looks a bit too "chunky" imo. reminds me of the moon's surface. I haven't seen it that coarse (large chunks) on a regular road.

I'll see if I can get some reference shots of the asphalt in my area.

This image of a parking space should do for now.

Hmm, good points there.

I did "tram road" -texture today and made it look like it has suffered more of time.

Photo of it as an attachment below.

nice quality.. I wish you could feel that too. But when you don't, it kind of makes it confusing.. btw, lower the contrast of the asphalt, make it so no black shadows appear, it looks way too deep and bumpy now

nice work anyways, keep it up

Could you repeat the beginning via PM in Finnish? Didn't quite get wind of it, sorry.

Contrast then for that part, I'll keep that in mind. I don't see problem in it's "rough" look, but it's only my opinion. I'll try and see if it is any better after decreasing the strength of shadows. Thanks for comment!
sry, I was referring to the rail road part bumpiness. I mean when you drive on it, you expect to have a bumpy ride because of the bumpy looking surface.
