Have you checked everything regarding your internet connection? Starting from hardware such as wires router modem, continuing with your connection speed and finally with the software settings such as opened or closed ports?

What are you trying to connect? Quite a lot of servers are based in Europe, because of the distance its better to stay away from those to begin with.

What ping is reported in the server list? (the column with [number] ms)
