XCOM: Enemy Unknown
Just a FYI for anyone living under a rock

The remake of UFO: Enemy Unknown / X-COM: UFO Defense, one of the most iconic turn-based strategies of all time is going to be released in 10 days (11 October). It's not an independent project like Xenonauts. A demo was released a few days back and there is plenty of gameplay footage.

Lots of changes, some very big ones, some smaller ones.

I tried the demo a couple of days ago, I quite liked it. Slightly different to the X-Com I know and love but it seems a faithful remake.

The best thing is that they've kept it turn-based :-)

Averaging around the 90% mark. I played through the demo a while back, read some previews and now some reviews.

My observations from IRC: "I still feel that lack of free aim is stupid. Alien weapons always destruct when the alien is killed (too much emphasis on capturing). Country based bonuses and only a single base is wank. Classes, special abilities, critical hits and dodge stats feel like random new things that were added because they're "in" rather than because the game needs them."

"Also I'm not sure if there is real line of sight modeling, it's a %age chance to hit system end of. In the original it was possible to shoot through two windows, between the horizontal bars of a fence and between a soldier's legs. In the same shot. "
