The online racing simulator
Update to the rules : 15-November-2010

ADD: III.3.a) No Driver may be on more than one team roster at any one time. No Driver may race for more than two teams during a season. A Driver may make only two moves between teams during a season: From the original team, to a second team, then back to the original team. Exceptions may be made in the case of team break-ups or mergers.

CHANGE (In blue): VIII.1.b) The race will be started with a rolling start behind the Safety Car. Drivers are to remain in grid order for one lap, single file, until the last turn or other point, at which time the field must form into double-file. Row-mates should be generally even with each other, remaining at least with 25% overlap. Rows should be spaced between 3 and 5 car lengths apart. The leader and all other cars after forming into double file must maintain approximately pit lane speed (10 kph variance permitted) until the green flag is shown, at which point all cars are free to overtake.

Does that include the guest team?

No. Any driver who is, for example, on a low waiting list poition team, and drives for the guest team, will not have that drive count against the limit.

Do I get it right that the double file should look like this then?

_
| | _ <-- front bumper is level to the (front) door of the other car
|_| | | Row 1
|_|

[3-5 car lengths space]

|_| | | Row 2

We do not particularly care about the spacing within the row itself, as long as there is considerable (in this case, approximately 25%) overlap. For instance, Row 2 can see P4 car perfectly even with the P3 car, while the P6 car only has it's nose to the leading edge of the door of the P5 car. We won't be picky. And if the P8 car lines up say, a wheel ahead of the P7 car, we generally won't gripe. As long as the P1 car is furthest ahead of P1 and P2 just before green, most all will be well.
Alright so you just want to make sure that there is enough space between rows, and the rows are +- at the same level.

_
|1| _
|_| |2| <-- Row 1, has to be proper, Car1 in front

[3-5 car lengths]

|3| |4| <-- cars can be equal
|_| |_|

[3-5 car lengths]

_ |6| <-- this is not good, but then there would be 1000x restarts
|5| |_| to get the whole grid right, so it's allowed?
|_|

[3-5 car lengths]

|7| _
|_| |8| <-- proper again

Rules updated on 18-January 2011, here's the changelog:
  • VI.e: Added language defining what to do in the event teams withdraw from a round and reenter the round
  • VI.f: Added language dealing with inclusion of waiting list teams.
  • VII.6: Added language defining missed qualifying procedures
  • XI.1: Implements a 3-hour deadline for qualifying protests. Race protests window remains the same.
  • XIV.3: Added an excemption to the countback to before server troubles for the event where there is only an inability to connect, without any time-outs removing a car from the race.
  • XIV.3: Added "equal to" for the language regarding what will be done if hour is more than 30 minutes complete.
  • XV.1.a: Removed DT penalty portion of failure to have a representative present in IRC.
If a team gets warning what are the consequences?
Does that mean that if they are given another warning there will be some point or other penalty applied? or only if they do the same thing again?
Warning - I guess they did something that is not good/clever to do but it wasn't that bad to give them penalty

For example driving like pig on track, for no obvious reason doing couple of S on straight just for fun, though I'm not sure about this one as now I remember it's normal in F1 to warm up tires like that on straights.

Basically something that is not punishable now but will be if done again.

I could think of cutting a corner too much ==> warning ==> still cutting too much ==> DT for example.
