The online racing simulator
Dunno, I mean I've never actually had an ISP tell me they're blocking something. I'd say something like "This game uses the following TCP and UDP ports [insert ports here], but for some reason I'm unable to connect to the game server. I've pinged and traced the route to the server, but there doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordindary. Are you blocking any of these ports or protocols, what other reasons might there be that I'm unable to connect?".

Tbh, I would first try a TCP-only version of LFS. If that connects to the master server, the issue is probably some firewall/router setting, even though you said in the other thread you turned the former off
Alright I'll download Patch Z and see if it works.

BTW where can I see the TCP and UDP ports used by LFS?
Quote from http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/Game_modes :the TCP and UDP ports [...] used by LFS (default: 63392 and 29339)

The manual knows =) 63392 is the default game server port, 29339 is the default master list port, afaik.
Thanks, I'll try to allow them in my firewall first, then I'll contact my ISP on Monday if it doesnt work.

Quote from Victor :This thread is for those who are having problems with connections to our master server. You will make a connection with our master server every time you go online in LFS (demo or licensed), and when you create a host (in online mode). This is a required step and you will only be able to race online if you can connect to our master server.

Here are some tips that might help you diagnose your problem.
Also if you create a post here about your problem, include all test and check results, so that we may be able to help you. Without any test results, we just do not have the information required to assist.

The first thing you should check :
CHECK 1 - LFS version
Check which version of LFS you have. You can see that at the bottom of the main menu screen of LFS, or on the end screen (after you clicked 'exit').
If you have a version older than LFS S2 ALPHA 0.5Y then you cannot unlock it; those older versions are not supported anymore. Your solution is to get the latest version of LFS from www.lfs.net .

If you have the correct version of LFS, do the following tests :
TEST 1 - ping
-click Windows Start button
-click Run
-enter the command cmd and press enter
-type : ping master.liveforspeed.net
-copy the outcome and post it here

TEST 2 - tracert (traceroute)
-click Windows Start button
-click Run
-enter the command cmd and press enter
-type : tracert master.liveforspeed.net
-copy the outcome and post it here

Do both of the above completely fail to do anything?
CHECK 2 - hosts file
Maybe you have previously edited your 'hosts file'.
In winXP (which the majority uses I assume) check and open the following file with notepad :
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Make sure this file does NOT have any line containing master.liveforspeed.net.
If it does, remove that line.
Then restart your computer and try to connect to the master server again.

CHECK 3 - firewall settings
If still nothing works, you should check your firewall settings. This normally is a last resort, because by default most firewalls do not block _outgoing_ connections. But some do. Unfortunately I cannot assist you with this in detail because I do not know which firewall you have and a very wide variety of them is available. Too much to list here. So please consult the manual of your firewall (or router).

More tests and checks might be available, however I cannot think of any useful ones at the moment. If we discover any new tests, they will be added to this list.

Remember, only post about your problems if you've done the tests and checks in this post and
include your test results in your post!

Good luck

Can anyone help here please :l?

i got the deadly "can not connect to master server message"

1. If you use the same computer for Dedi host and LFS game DONT USE the port 63392 in dedi host , change it , probably in 99% you will not see your server from lfs game in server list, because the LFS game using the same port.
2. chek your firewal on your computer , usualy windows ask you to unblock or not the port when you start first time your dedi server , watch what are you clicking
3. if you have any type of router you must to open on him the port what are your dedi lfs server using (sea the manual for your router)
4. now in this point if not working normaly the dedi lfs server you shoud try upgrade , or reinstall your router firmwere , because like me you maybe have problem with router softver , and the upgrade or reinstall can fixed that , but carefuly this you are doing on your own risk , iff you are not experienced in this stuf you shoud ask profesional help

Oups now I see the date off the post, sorry , that guy fixed his problem a long time ago , but , I will leave the post , not erased , maybe will help someone others who has the same problem.

Hey there,

both PING and tracert work fine. Any info on what port would need to go out so i can check for that on the fw ? Even tho that should be open from inside to the outside. Anything else i might have wrong ? IPs for ping and tracert-end seem fine.

I am getting the "Can't connect to masterserver" error when trying to unlock S2.

Kind Regards,
Thorsten
You might want to check out this thread for some pointers and port numbers. What FW do you have?

Quote from RX-7 :Alright i'm lost...
I've gone into my settings and opened the ports with TCP and UDP and also 29339 or something as tcp.
But i'm still getting the Master server connection problem so ??
Heres my setup, and ping and trace. i did the ping and trace while the dedi was NOT running.. I didn't know if you were supposed to or not ?

// optional: local specified ip address
/ip=127.0.0.1 ***** this seems to be your issue?

What should it be then ?
If i use my router ip it comes up with the TCP socket bind failed error.

It should be the address assigned to your computer.

It would be something like 192.168.1.64 or 10.0.0.64 or something similar.

You can't use 127.0.0.1 because that's an address that is only used internally.

From a Windows command prompt, use the "ipconfig" command. Then look at the line that says "IP Address". It will tell you what you need to know.

My problem is when i connect to a server it displays : CPW and then lost connection to host.

@TA1LGATER you might consider not using a cheat... that helps connecting to online servers.

However, did anyone notice some glitches yesterday evening? between 9:30 and 10:00 German time (8:30 to 9:00pm in UK) I had great problems connecting to one of our servers and also this forum, LFSW and our team forum were not reachable or very slow.

Sometimes I was able to connect to our server, but lost connection quite soon and I very often got a "connecting to masterserver" that timed out....

Since my team mates and all other racers on our server got disconnected at the same time, I don´t think that there only was a problem with my internet connection. German websites worked very well and fast - only (some) UK based sites and the LFS servers hosted at 500servers seemed to have problems.
