Vintage Racing at the Glen this coming weekend
Anyone else going? Ever been?

I've been trying to find an entry list, but can't find anything. Can't even find a list of what type of vehicles/era are in which groupings.

I'm sure it'll be bigger than both the Mont Tremblant event (was there at it's peak in 05) and the Mosport festival, but I'm just trying to find out what I can expect from the event. Any particularly great vantage points to watch from? I've never been to the Glen.

Thanks!
I'm seriously considering going, I go to the Glen for Nascar weekend but haven't been to the Vintage Grand Prix.

As far as cool vantage points go, the hill outside of the esses is pretty good since there is no big fence between you and the track and you're pretty close to the cars. You can also get a pretty good view of the cars on the inside of the last turn coming to the main straight, not sure what number that turn would be on the boot configuration. I asked a buddy of mine who has been there for the Vintage Grand Prix and they said they usually just sit in the pit terrace seats and you have a pretty good view from there as well.
If you get in the top row of the pit terrace, especially in the seats close to t1, you can see down the pit straight, through t1, and about halfway up the esses. I thought they were excellent seats, granted I was only 7 and it was my first ever race. Also, I thought the inside of The Loop was splendid (we made a trip while some '60s F1 an F2 cars were out for practice) because you really get a sense of how freakin' fast some of the cars are.

Maybe visit The Bog too if anything is left there anymore.
'The Loop' is the chicane, isn't it? Or am I confusing that with another part of the circuit?

I Assume they're running the full boot layout this weekend, right?

In any case, I'm finishing up some work for my boss right now, have to get up in 3 and a half hours, too, to leave here at about 4am.... 4 and a half hour drive... and I'm driving. ugh.
I would guess the loop is the boot. Either that or it could be the bus stop chicane like you said, you can't really get "inside" that though. That does remind me viewing near the bus stop is pretty cool also because the track is pretty much at eye level. I like watching the Cup cars practice there because you can see them lifting the right front tire off the ground every time they go through there.

I'm not going on Sunday any more, girl I know took off of work just so she could watch the opening day of football with me, so I'm kind of stuck doing that now.

Let us know how the event goes, I'd like to make it to this some year.
What I really meant was The Outer Loop, the long downhill right hander after the chicane.
Quote from Rappa Z :What I really meant was The Outer Loop, the long downhill right hander after the chicane.

Aye, realized that was called the Outer Loop while I was there this weekend (Inner Loop being the chicane to those who don't know the track).

Twas a great weekend, some very nice cars. The event, overall, was smaller than I thought it would be, though; the Glen's site claims that it's the biggest vintage event in North America (which is BS, Monterrey is by FAR!) so I was expecting more, but there was still some great variety. Some good racing was had, too. As far as size goes, it didn't seem to be much bigger than the event in Mont Tremblant (was there in 05) or the Mosport event at its peak (06 and 07 were the biggest years there that I've been to).

The track itself is very nice, though I found the fences to be a little far from the track in most areas, making getting pictures of the cars with anything less than a 4 or 5x zoom (shut up, my camera is old!) difficult. WE stayed in the Ramada in Painted Post, about a half hour from the track - it served its purpose, though it was nothing spectacular. As a side note, the whole time we spent in America, we didn't see any attractive females. I think you guys should remedy that As soon as we got back in to Canada we stopped off in Niagara Falls for some dinner and immediately saw a lot of eye candy :P

After leaving the track we visited the gorge of the Watkins Glen State Park which was gorgeous! Spent a couple hours there and walked a couple miles, breathtaking scenery with the rocks and the waterfalls. I couldn't help but daydream of having some fun in the pools of water there with one of my ex girlfriends...

Overall a great weekend, would go again I'll go through my pics over the next couple days and upload a few of the good ones for you all. I can't promise high quality, though, my camera is old, as I said. Hooray 4.0 megapixel with a 3x zoom!

You're a little late :P

And no, there were no Group C cars, unfortunately. Was a nice M8B, though... a few nice examples of old Can-Am models in fact.
