3mm Hardboard
Hi guys, i know there are a lot of people who specialise in this field and would be able to answer my question.

Basically, would a 3mm sheet of hardboard measuring 60cm x 70cm hold a mass of about 5kg which would hang of two chains. One chain hooks 10cmcm from the edge of one side of the hardboard, and the other chain hooks 10cm from the edge of the other side of the hardboard.

I've put a picture to explain things a bit better.

If you can't read the small writing, it basically says: "1cm diameter threaded tube of which the hook is on, with a nut about the tube and hardwood"

Also, the hardboard is supported from all sides, into a depth of about 3cm.

Thanks a lot for your help.
Harjun.

Probably. Most likely the chain fastenings would pull through, so use big washers to spread the load. Oh, they're on hooks? Might be worth trying to reinforce the hook holes somehow.

alright cheers mate, i'll put some big washers to spready the load on the chain fastenings.
This is what it looks like.

this is an easier pic to understand.

guessing that threaded part at the bottom of the pic is what is going to go through the hardboard.
Just aout of curiosity, what is hardboard? My first guess is MDF, but I'm not up on my colloquialisms.

i think its high density fibreboard, and MDF is medium density fibreboard
Also must be a really stupid question, but will the 3mm 50cmx60cm sheet be a bit bendy, like snappable? or will it be real hard?
It'll be quite rigid, with a bit of spring to it.

alright i have a vivid picture of what it's going to be like.
Thanks very much

Sounds logical enough, confirmed by Tristan's wiki link.
