Well maybe some of you have noticed we went from 4:3 screens to 16:10 and nowadays we're suffering another change: to 16:9. So, with the same aspect ratio than a widescreen TV and the HDMI connection, basically they want to minimize the differences between both.
Does anybody has a 16:9 screen? I'm considering buy one an set it as extended desktop with my laptop, but not sure if I can have problems because my laptop is 16:10 1680x1050. Isn 16:9 fine for design and 3D modelling? Otherwise there are still some 16:10 out there...
Thanks
Im running on 16:9 (1920x1080) and it looks good. Ive never seen any "fat" cars or some yet. Usually it will look fat if u stretch/use widescreen resolution on 4:3 screen for example. If u have widescreen monitor, then there is no problems

Edit: It doesnt matter how much ur laptop resoltion is. It depends on the videocard, usually u can set native resolution on external monitor. Like, u got 720p on laptop screen and u put external monitor on it with 1080p resolution then it should (im not sure) let u put the native resolution on it.
Which is the size or your screen? So if I get a 16:9 screen and set is as extended desktop I can use my laptop at 1680x1050 and that one at 1920x1080 at the same time? Any disadvantage doing this?

Having 2 screens rolling at the same time is more about the videocard. But im pretty sure that its a yes.
The videocard is a 9800M GS. Well, hopefully next week I can do the test with a friend, he just bought a 23" 1920x1080

Yea, testing it before is always a good idea. Then u cant go wrong with it. I hope it works. Also, if it doesnt work then there's nothing to cry about because laptops are laptops
Just tried with my friend's screen and after a couple of minutes we managed to make it work fine. The 15.4" screen of my laptop at 1680x1050 and the external 23" screen at 1920x1080 as extended desktop
i have a benq 1680x1050(16:10) which i use 1280x720 (16:9) on.. so no problem for me.. not even at 800x600 i get stretched cars..
If you have your monitor set to scale all resolutions to full screen, you will get squishing/stretching by running a 16:9 res on a 16:10 monitor.

If you have the scaling set properly, you should have black bands on the top and bottom when running a 16:9 res on a 16:10 monitor.
