i think about 5-10 years ago a high profile engineer switched teams but wasn't allowed to start working for them for 6-12 months to ensure he didn't leak any current technology. it brings up a strange situation with confidentiality of technical information. as an engineer i've always wondered if i switched jobs and saw them doing something differently and less efficiently where do i draw the line between breaking confidentiality clauses and not? good thing i'm not practicing yet and am only still a student. hahahahahhah speedfreak227

i'm just happy that there are 2 more cars on the grid! i remember the year toyota was joining it WAS going to be 22 cars and then arrows (i think) and prost went bankrupt in the same year.

F1 needs to get rid of that ridiculous $40 million bond (entry fee) and the fact that new teams can't get paid ONE CENT for the first 2 or 3 years!

how do either of those rules invite new teams? "Come join the top series in the world, pay a high fee just to be here and get nothing in return for 3 years" what a sales pitch!

i remember the year after hill won the world chapionship he ended up at a crappy "bottom of the grid" team just to stay in F1. it was sad really. but there was ONE race that he miraculously led until he had a mechanical failure. i think villeneuve took the win from him.

i remember back in 95 sometime (because i was working at a certain job in 95) seeing an f1 race where shumacher was on slicks and damon hill was on wet tires on a wet track and shumi was holding him off, SIDEWAYS in every corner.

can someone tell me what track this happened at?

I SOOOOOO want a wind tunnel now.

you could turn the speed from 0 up to 300 or so and see the downforce values and hopefully the air disturbance coming off the car.

it would be cool to have a little stream of white smoke that you could moe around the front of the car to watch the flow.

hell, i'd probably even buy a wind tunnel program where you could design different bodies as a stand alone game!

no. this movie isn't set in a post apocalyptic world. and as strange as it sounds, gas is more rare in this movie than mad max.

i'll tell you what i can remember.

it's about a car enthusiast who just wants to race his race car ONE MORE TIME but gas isn't produced anymore. he's gone around syphoning the bottoms of storage tanks from gas stations to save up some fuel.

eventually he gets out onto the road and starts tearing it up! the trouble is, the cops have no fuel to chase him.

they send up an ex fighter jet pilot to shoot him but once he gets into the air he's so thrilled to be flying again (another gear head) that he just flys around.

I remember watching this race at 4:30am live and it was the most exciting and emotional race i've ever seen.

FINALLY i found a copy of it on a file sharing network after years of looking.

i hope Bernie doesn't mind

how many of you have seen this race?
let me give a summary for those who haven't:
- schumacher had 1 more point than villeneuve, final race of the 97 season
- 3 men tied for pole position with EXACTLY the same time to 1/1000th of a second
- sauber took team orders from ferrari (engine supplier) to slow down villeneuve in the middle of the race
- mclaren made a deal with williams to slow down schumacher in the race also
- villeneuve made an awesome pass inside schumacher at turn 1, schumi started turning in, saw villeneuve and instinctively turned away, then realised that if JV passed him he'd lose the title and turned back in HARD to villeneuves sidepod. memories of hill in 95 anyone?
- in 95 schumi stood on the track wall waiting for hill to come around again, when he didn't he showed excitement at winning the championship. (scumball?)
- in 97 he stood on the wall for lap after lap as JV kept coming around. even the comentators made a note of it. eventually he walked away. (scumbag?)
coulthard obviously lets hakkinen pass him
- villeneuve gets a radio call from his engineer "remember juaques, the mclarens have been quite helpfull"
- JV's car feels "funny" and both mclarens then pass him (on the last lap i believe) and mika takes his first win in (approximately) 100 starts

amazing. i can't wait to watch it again with my current F1 buddies

Not questioning your abilities, but I took off points on my own because I really don't have a knack for setting up a pass. I'm too careful or something. Unwilling to go right to the limit and risk an incedent. And my strategic instincts are low. I don't see the opportunities the way others do. I'm learning a little at a time though.

i'm good at setting up a pass but i'm better at it in real life in karting. not having the ability to turn my head takes a lot away. also, not feeling feedback through the brake pedal and seat of my pants also makes going to the limit difficult. i generally don't like taking the risk either in this game because you're often not up against people with good racing ethics and they'll turn in regardless. don't get me wrong, there's tonnes of fantastic racers out there but often the ones that are the most respectful are faster than I and i don't get to tangle with them very much

i find that if i'm fast enough to run with someone it's best to stay with them and pressure them into an error or look for a weakness rather than take a chance and risk a spin. maybe beep a few times to get them checking their mirrors. hehehehehhe
