Section practice

It would be great to be able to capture speed and position - say at the entry to a corner - and be able to try a section over and over.
There are a few turns that vex me and (I know this is lazy) I hate to do a whole lap to try them again. Especially on the longer layouts.
This strikes me as the sort of thing a clever modder could do.
It's something I've wanted ever since I raced the 'ring in GPL!
Just a thought for a lazy Saturday.

I was reading over my last few posts and I realized I came across like a bit of a smug prick. I apologize for that. I am really a quite likable prick. Please forgive me.

I looked on wikipedia and I found these stats for average per capita income
1. Luxembourg 80,288
2. Norway 64,193
3. Iceland 52,764
5. Ireland 48,604
6. Denmark 47,984
7. Qatar 43,110
8. United States 42,000
9. Sweden 39,694
10. Netherlands 38,618
So I don’t think I’m completely off base.

But again..sorry if I offended anyone.

Young?
Hardly...I'm 42. I have two kids. It's just that (most) of the folks who are into LFS seem to be on the right side of the bell curve. That usually means they can figure out some sort of career that will make buying video games painless. I'm on my second already.
I would guess that the majority of LFS players over the age of 30 have a combine income of over 100k a year. If you are struggling on that you need to budget better. Cut the Starbucks out for a week...bingo...
It would be an interesting anonymous poll... age and income of LFS users.
There can be only one?

First of all, if you have a job, can't you pretty much buy every race sim that comes out? Really people.
Secondly, I really love the off line racing in LFS. Crazy, I know, but I like to win occasionally and, ironically, I can't beat the guys who have no jobs. (Evidently they have practice time)
Instead of having this binary reaction to other games - it's either LFS or brand X- why not look at them with an open mind and see what we can incorporate into LFS?
You may now imply directly or indirectly that I am gay.
Thank you.

Yeah...of course the editor has been mentioned before...many times, I'm sure.
I was just wondering if anyone has ever considered linking in GPS data. I'm not suggesting that LFS would do something that "outside the box" with such a small team and limited resources.
That's why I posted it here. I just wanted to see if it sparked interest in the community .
GPS + Track editor-just a thought

I've always thought it would great to have a track editor that could take GPS info and turn it into a track. (There is this one turn when I drive the kids to school: a sweeper that crests a hill and then turns sharply the other direction.)
I think we all have a section of road we'd like to try balls out without fear of death or incarceration.
Also we could have some of the great drives from around the world at our disposal. It seems like the technology is there...you'd have to specify the width and surface of the road of course and add some stock trees and guard rails. But think of the replay value!
Thank you for enduring my fantasy...

B Rose-
When you write a letter about the quality of the English, and you take that sort of tone, it seems critical to run that ole spell checker.
The irony needle is just a little in the red.

They have a little utility that makes windows think you have one super high aspect ratio screen.
I'll post some screenshots in a couple of hours.
It really is wonderful...and it's a business expense!

My brothers-
Like you, I want to have the most immersive driving experience possible. I actually purchased a 24 inch monitor and sent it back...it was good, but not that great an improvement. Then I stumbled across the Triplehead2Go thread on this forum.
Sometimes I enjoy being an early adopter, but this setup scared me a bit. I had to commit to three monitors and the unit itself...yikes!
I did as much research as I could tolerate and found the usual conflicting info. (2ms is better than 8 ms because of ghosting, 8 ms is better than 2ms because of color saturation, etc) I finally settled on three 19 inch dell monitors at 200 US a crack. (by the time you read this I’m sure they’ll be 5 bucks)
The boxes arrived and I set the rig up..
Let me say this...Holy F&$%ing Crap! This is one of those rare purchases that over-delivers. Not only are flight and driving sims incredible, but the amount of desktop available for work is amazing. (I make a virtual Spanish learning game and have to do audio editing, script editing, conference calling, usually at the same time ) I’ve had 3 friends see this thing in action and buy one that very day.
Don’t go by my recommendation alone. Take it as a data point, but this thing is worth every penny!
Actually...do go by my recommendation! What? are going to live forever?
Now excuse me...I must get back to my precious.

Thanks for all the response!

The two aspects of this idea that interest me are:
  • Exposure for some righteous software. (ultimately good for me, the LFS user)
  • I really want to see how fast I can go around that damn track!
I run a 3 man software company as well, and I am constantly trying to brainstorm ways to spread the word for no money. (read Seth Godin’s blog if that sort of thing interests you.)
The reason I think Jeremy and company might not be too harsh, is because it would add such a great element to the show. That’s what pays the bills!

Sure there are reasons that it might not work, but if you paid attention to such things you’d never leave the house.
LFS needs to be on TopGear

Think of this: model the topgear track, model whatever crap car they use, give that version away for free on the TopGear site.
The drivers with the top 4-5 times get to come out to the taping and drive the real car on TopGear. I'm guessing that the laptimes on the LFS version would be very close to those of the real car, a strong endorsement of the program.
It would be good for TopGear, but more importantly it would be wonderful exposure LFS.
How many people watch TopGear every week? Multiple millions I would guess. You can't buy exposure like that.
How say you?
