And we made it through another year of great racing at the Open Wheel Racing League. It's also past halfway this season with the 3rd and 4th race completed at Aston Cadet rev.

The strongest performance was undoubtedly by spdoPaddi who won both races and got the first place in the cup standings. With 49 points advantage in the standings, he can wrap up another title for spdo by winning the fifth race of the season. It's up to his competitors to stop him in the final event of this season at the classic Fern Bay Gold track.

The OWRL admins wish all OWRL members the best for 2009 with lots of fair and close racing!

What do you want, I think Adolf is a normal name. But in generally all non-germans are far more advanced on this topic than most of the germans. If a german family would name her son this way they would be expelled.

Div A: FiredUp's amazing season finish
In Div A, all the pressure was on FiredUp. He had a good advantage in the championship but could not afford to crash out of the race. But instead of playing it safe, FiredUp took the lead in the early stages and did not let any of his rivals come close again. With the race win at Kyoto GP Long the spdo driver finished the season 38 points ahead of the competition. Second place in the race and the championship is Storm_Cloud, the winner of the three previous Div A season. In the final race he managed to beat his rivals in the fight on P2 in the standings. Storm_Cloud leaped up from 6th. In his first OWRL season, n1 H. Vuorinen secured a third place.

MarcG takes Div B championship with dominant performace
Heading into the final round, spodMarcG was second in the championship only one point away from Speed-link M!ch!. But on the fine race course of Kyoto GP Long MarcG took pole and his 6th and 7th win of the season, leaving his rivals without a chance. MarcG won the season and is 27 points clear of M!ch! in the final standings. 125er | Chris came quite close to overhauling M!ch! in the standing, but both his second place finishes kept him 6 points shy of second place. Still, a 3rd place finish is a solid performance.

The OWRL admins want to congratulate spdoFiredup and spdoMarcG for their well-deserved championships!

The final standings can be found at the following links. In Div A, the last 7 drivers have been greyed out as they will have to make place for the top 7 Div B drivers, who are denoted in bold in the Div B standings. If a driver prefers to stay in Div B, please post in the Div B drivers topic. All Div A drivers will receive a email asking to confirm their participation in the next Div A/B season, starting in Q1 2009.

Tonight the drivers championship will be decided between FPR|Matze (49 pts) und Peregrinus|Storm (44 pts). Storm has won his first Grand Prix last year at the GP circuit of Kyoto, maybe a good sign?
There is also tension behind them. Six drivers are able to reach the third place in the championship. SpdoKiLl3r and cyber|Misko have the best chance with 27 points.
The constructors championship already has been decided. Factory Phantom Racing has won it with a big advance in front of six teams who can reach the second place.

Both qualifying parts and the race can be watched via LFS Remote at 19:30 CEST.

IRT|Andy wins again / Showdown at Kyoto in two weeks

Only two drivers are able to win the 2008 OWRL F1 championship. Before the race FPR | Matze was leading with 6 points in front of ^P^Storm. But it looked great for ^P^Storm to close the gap after qualifying with a pole position and even better after FPR | Matze had to retire, but a small error damaged his car and destroyed his chance for another race win. FPR | ALDI took the lead, followed by the winner of last race IRT|Andy. FPR | ALDI was on a 3-stop strategy and on the best way to win this race, but his pit crew made a big mistake at his last stop, letting IRT|Andy take the win with a 2-stop strategy. 1stBFAFilo earned the last position on the podium after a hard fight against NWRT asman.

Behind them was IRT|2slow4u collecting another four points to Innovate Racing. Guest driver germanpio finished sixth after starting from last position, scoring the first points for Team DoKu and SF)Damon( reached position seven. ^P^Storm managed to get the last point and is still second in the championship with 44 points behind the leader FPR | Matze with 49 points. The drivers championship will be decided between these two drivers at the final round at Kyoto Ring.

The constructors championship however goes this year already a race earlier to a new winner. Factory Phantom Racing is the new champion after collecting more points than last years winner GFC and has now the chance to win both championships in two weeks at the final race at Kyoto Ring

^P^Storm wins on the streets of South City

A battle of the strategies and a mess in Turn One were expected before the third race on the tight circuit on the streets of South City

spdoKiLl3r set the fastest time in Q1, but it didn't help him in Q2 where he could only manage position 8. Speedykev and Storm clearly set up their car for the Pole-Position. However, OMC Speedykev pitted when it wasn't aloud so he and SF Damon, who did the same mistake had to start from the pits. ^P^Storm took the first position in front of Speedcore.GTR and OMC Jet.

77 laps have to be driven, which means the drivers had to cover more than the usual eighty miunutes of racing, so a long evening was ahead of them. Luckily almost no one got hurt in the first corners. Jet had to give his 3rd position away to FPR|Matze after an accident. Storm had to stop early - clearly on a three-stop strategy - giving the lead to Speedcore.GTR, who was on a good pace this race, but he risked too much driving with a damaged car and giving up. FPR|Matze was leading mid-race, but a damper failure and wrong pitting setting takes his podium hopes away.

With KiLl3r having a "horrible race set" only NWRT Knu can follow Storm with a two-stop strategy. At his second stop Knu makes a very fast pitstop which lets him stay 6 seconds in front of Storm. With even laps to go, Storm closes the gap but can't get close enough. Two laps to go and Knu has to pay now for his fast pitstop. He has a flat tyre at the front left and falls back to second, letting Storm win his first race of this season.

spdoRoedii wins in Kyoto - Close championship expected

With cyber racing joining the series the pit lane would have been full on Kyoto. But the race was still a fight between two well-known drivers of the OWRL.

In Q1 spdoRoedii set the fastest time while being 2 tenth of a second faster than the current world record. But this didn't help him in Q2 as he only reached the 3rd place behind FPR | Chris on Pole and ^P^Storm. Both cyber drivers complete the Top 5.

Storm is able to attack Chris on the way to Turn 1, but the FPR driver keeps his lead on the outside. His teammate Matze takes a quick look at the back of cyber|scipy. spdoKiLl3rmoves up to 5th. Both Speedcore drivers kick themselves in the gravel. Chris can hold his position on the front for 2 and a half laps before he connects many mistake into a lap to forget. Storm takes the lead and drives fast lap after fast lap, but spdoRoedii can keep up. It becomes very clear that the racewin will be decided between these two drivers.

Almost every driver is on a 2 stop strategy. Storm has to stop three laps earlier than Roedii and loses the lead. When Roedii comes out after his stop, he's in front of Storm, but loses his position after running wide in the last turn. This gives other drivers the chance to lead the race. cyber|Misko leads for three laps and even 1stBFA have their first lead lap with filo. During the second stint Storm and Roedii move away from the field, only Misko can keep the gap smaller than 10 seconds.

Again Storm has to stop a few laps earlier than Roedii, who don't change his tyres and therefore exits the pits in front of Storm. This time he can keep his position to spdo's first F1 win although Storm can close the gap to just three seconds on the finish line. Cyber|Misko finishes 3rd and in front of FPR|Matze on 4th. 1stBFA drive to their best overall finish with filo on 5th and haelje on 6th followed by the man of the race one cyber|scipy. The last position in the points was taken by OMC's reserve driver Speedykev, but spdoKiLl3r steals the last point on the final metres.

Three drivers lead now the championship, all of them with 10 points. The third race will be in two weeks on the South City Long course just one week after the famous Monaco Grand Prix.

NWRT|Knu wins the season opener in Aston

The first race of the 2008 F1 Series was held at the Aston GP course. With a new Qualifying and more than 300km of racing action 20 drivers wanted to storm the british track. Raad more for the report.

The first part of the qualifying saw both of the spdo drivers in the front. Spdo Roedii set the fastest lap with a 2:07.1. The Top 10 advanced to the next part and it was SpeedCore.GTR who reached the tenth place with only 2 tenth in front of 1stBFA|haelje.
In the second part the cars had to be set up for the race. The main actors were now Storm_Cloud from Peregrinus and the drivers of the North-West Racing Team Knu and Ice, who took the first three positions with Storm_Cloud setting the Pole-Position time of 2:08.68, now obviously with a whole lot of fuel.

On the way to T1 Knu already gets past Storm_Cloud with Ice and Roedii behind them. While braking, Roedii hits Knu on the back and takes him and OMC|JET with him into the gravel. 1stBFA|filo who runs into JET follows them, while NWRT|Ice now takes the lead on the outside while avoiding the little chaos. FPR|Matze gets a look on the inside of Knu and takes P2 on their way to the first hairpin. In the middle of the field eXc Marcel pushes 1stBFA haelje into a spin.

OMC|SCP started dead last and is now on 7th place and continues with his rush to the front. After 5 laps he is on 4th position and leads a few laps later after the top runners go into the pits for their first stops. Knu takes the lead back from his teammate Ice, who loses his concentraion and falls back to P8 but he is able to recover to gain 2 more places. Behind Knu are FPR|Matze and OMC|SCP fighting for the second position. SCP is able to stay in front of Matze after his first pit stop and continues to close the gap to Knu. But NWRT|Knu manages to hold his position and wins his first OWRL F1 race in front of OMC|SCP and FPR|Matze.

The 4th place goes to spdo KiLl3r, who had a rather silent race, followed by Speedcore.Bessa who started from 19th. NWRT|Ice and FPR|Tisu were fighting for P6 for the last nine laps but a small error by Tisu gives Ice the upperhand. The last point goes to SF)Damon(.

11 races - 11 teams - 22 drivers... These are the facts for our second F1 season in the OWRL. The season starts at 3 May and runs until October.

A few things are different since the last season: The biggest changes apply to the qualification for the series and the qualification sessions at each race. Applications are explained at the end of this news. The qualifying on race day won't be a single 30 minutes session anymore. We decided to use now a modified version of the multiple part qualifying. The Qualifying will be split into two parts. The first part is a 15 minutes session in which all drivers take part. After that the Top 10 drivers will have a 10 minute session where pitting is only allowed by driving into the pitlane. Shift+P is not allowed in the second part.

Teams can now apply by sending us a mail to [email protected]. Applications are open until Tuesday, 15 April 23:00 UTC. We will decide which teams to invite after that. Your application should contain the exact teamname and LfSworld names of at least two drivers that will drive during the season. We will check the league/race experience of the drivers to ensure a close and fair race for everyone. Teams are allowed to change drivers between races.
