Off-topic, but:
What's with the ungloved hands? No offence, but those look really choppy.

Prehaps there is, but I've never spotted it. I might go have a bit better look...
LAN play

Hi,
I'd like to suggest that there be a LAN only multiplayer system. I noticed this when I had a few mates over and I wanted to race them on a demo-level server. The problem was that there was no option for network play, so we had needlessly high pings. Please, a LAN mode would be much appreciated.

I might also offer this advice: Don't think your parents know nothing. respect their advice. They've been driving for a hell of a long time.Besides... mine are only a few seconds behind me at blackwood.

I might just chip in and say:
I started driving a few months ago, and I already know that trying to race on a normal road would be pure stupidity. You take a look at a road, then compare it to a racetrack. You might notice that the track is wider, and has wider turns, along with suitable run-off areas. Roads don't.
Driving on public roads is a means of conveance first and foremost. It's not your own personal speedway. If you want to "race" in any way, shape or form, go to a race track. That way, when you stuff up, you have a better chance yourself and the likelyhood of killing someone else is lessened. What if you make a mistake on a road when you're racing? You're shooting through an intersection, and car with a family in it comes the other way and you don't have time to avoid them. You could kill them, not to mention yourself. Don't be a jackass, putting yourself and others in danger.
It doesn't matter how good a driver you are, If you race on public roads you should not be allowed to ever get behind the wheel of a motor car or motorcycle again.

Well Tiny, when you're ready, throw down some money like Eddie has, and it gets a whole lot better, I assure you. Never regretted spending the money myself, and I'd be suprised to meet somone who thinks differently.

Yeah, I've found that the low powered stuff gives you a bit more time to think through what you're doing, so I now mostly race the UF 1000(the mini lookin' thing) but every now and again, I break out something silly, usually a FXO GTR.

After a bit of practice, 1:33 and lower are within anyone's reach (heck, I used to be able to do that before I found the mini). What will really help you is a good setup if you haven't already got one. If you don't, then there's a website called setup field(I can't remember the URL offhand) which should have a good one. Or you could find the WR holder and bug them for theirs .

My fave thing to do when I first got the demo was to jump the exit pit lane on Blackwood GP rev. Just aim for the grass after the finish line and count the number of rotations and see if I could crush the roof (But I'm past that now...I think...) .

I got a wheel for christmas, and that helps to no end, the car is manageable(and I'm running stock), but it still catches me out frequently. Unforunatly, my wheel is a cheap one, an Elements "Twin-Turbo 2", with only 180º of travel on the wheel, and both pedals are on the same axis... I do like the squential shifter, and the handbrake though. A wheel, especially a good one is invaluable, although it takes some getting used to( I still haven't caught up to my times with the mouse)

RA= Raceabout, the convertible that likes to spazz out and kill small children. I've managed one lap with it before it's decided that it doesn't like me. As far as I can tell, it's the worst mannered car in LFS. The LX6 comes a close second but it's ok if you're a bit careful on the throttle.

It's about $AUD1.30 per litre here, which translates to 0.557114 GBP . We do ok here.

My vote is in. I wonder if the "outside interferance" will cause LFS to be disquallified?

That would work, but I'm not the only one in the house who uses the 'net... My older brother makes up quite a big slice of our useage, we normally go over by a few gig, even when we're restricting ourselves. My dad also shoots quite a few files between his computer at work and home, so that accounts for something.

I just got S2, and I'm still a little "shocked and awed" by all the content... I can drive most stuff, but I'm strugling with the LX cars and the Formula V8... The FV8 is just insane, as soon as I touch the mouse, the car just starts spinning like the world is about end. The new tracks are still confusing as all hell, so I think I'll stay at blackwood for a while yet! What you will immediatly see as awesome is:
1) The complete set of TBO cars, particularly the FXO Turbo, the most awesome car I can drive at all properly
2) The MRT-5... It's very silly indeed, but good fun.
3)Fern bay. Really pretty map
4)South city, a bit complex and confusing the first run through
5) The GTR cars.... The XRR is crazy!
6)The Formula cars. Can you say "doughnuts"?

I can't comment on online play, as my ISP charges like a wounded bull if you go over the miserly 500mb download limit, but I can only imagine it leaves the demo servers for dead. Spend the money, and you will have more stuff to play with than you can imagine.

A V8 supercar wouldn't go unpraised either, but a racing estate (or station wagon as we know them here) would be awesome too, and a "little" convertible simmilar an MX-5 would be superb. And before you start reminding me I'm a demo racer, I'm going S2 in three days, and possibly getting a wheel the day after.

Tristan:
I suspect that the shockies are a problem too, as I havn't changed them since I got the thing, but yeah, you have some valid points there, I shall investiagate them.

I was looking through the auto section of the newspaper today, and I'm liking the idea of a Mazda MX-6, they seem to be fairly cheap, they look nice, and I might be able to find one with a stock exhaust(people around here have a tendancy to fit large cannons to their exhausts). Anyone had experience with this car?

Well, I can't find my camera, but here is the gist of it:
This car is the reason I play LFS- to try and fool myself into thinking, even for a moment, that I drive a nippy little sports car like an MX-5, rather than the veritable tank(but I am aware of worse tanks) that sits in my garage. Not that I don't like driving it, I just want a sports car, or a little hatch/wagon(RX-8, Mazda6/Mazda3)

I've got a 1991, 80 Series Toyota Landcruiser, 4.2L NA Diesel, manual transmission(I despise automatics with a passion btw) producing a ground shattering 98Kw and a frightening 285nM of torque. It's also fire-engine red(because it was a fire engine for a while). Stop laughing. It's suprisingly agile and easy to drive for a 2.5 tonne lump of steel, and very easy on fuel.
This truck does not do the "soccer mum(or mom for you septics...)" routine, this one goes off road whenever a chance presents itself. It's been to Fraser Island(world's biggest sand island) 4 times, to the top of Cape York(the northern most point on the mainland) and about half way to the other side of the contient and back, and is still doing rather well for itself. My only gripe with it at the moment is that it starts to shake at about 100Km/h, which isn't much fun, but I tend to drive a little slowly to save a bit of fuel. It's probably going to get sold in few years. From there, who knows?

Hi,
Great to see another Aussie on the forums.

I grabbed "king's" setup from this page:
http://setupfield.teaminferno. ... ar_id=10&p_version=S2
And I(with a slight modifcation to racing line) acchieved an new PB of 1:46.34 . Still not lightning fast, but a good improvement for 5 minutes work. The only thing I can see to improve on this setup is the brakes, which feel a bit weakish. I'll try your anti-roll bar mod too. Cheers all!

Ok, here's something a bit odd:
I get as good or better lap times(I got as low as 1:48.37) with the XF GTi with full suspension lift, Viscous LSD and 840Nm of brake pressure as I do with the XR GT. The XR is still more fun though . S2 will be arriving next Wensday(hurrah for well timed birthdays!), so my mediocre skill may be coming to a server near you!
I'll investigae some of those setups, see how I go.

Well... I just watched the top XRG replay for Blackwood. Not so much driving, as drifting every turn... He's taking turns I'd take at 80Km/k at 120+ !
I know it sounds absurd, but his XRG felt like it was pinned to the ground, and was running road super tires.I just run a slighly modded Hard_Track with more brake pressure and Viscous LSD
Do all the really good guys drift all the corners? I might have to stick up one of my replays so you guys can tell me specifically what needs changing.
Thanks

Thanks for the fast response.
Yeah, I though I might be a little off the proper line. I was just doing a bit of hot lapping, and I can say that I was a bit inccorect with the times I gave you. For the XRG it's more like 1:49-1:51 and the XRT is around 1:40-1:41.
Thanks for the input, I'll try to sharpen up before I get S2! Would using a mouse & keyboard hinder me at all?

Peter

Edit:
Wow... I can see how far behind I am. These guys could beat me even if I had the XRT. I need to improve drastically.

Hi all,
I've been playing around with the LFS demo, and I should be getting S2 sometime next week, but I'd like some input on my driving.
Now, only the demo, I only have Blackwood and three cars.I normally drive the XR GT, and I manage regularly about 1:50-1:48. Is that any good? That falls to 1:45-1:42 on a good run with the XR GT Turbo.
