The second round of Apex Cup season 2 was held Friday the 11th at the tropical circuit Fern Bay Black with the Formula XR.
Most drivers decided to qualify on the harder R2 compound this race, which gave them the chance to do multiple laps in a row on one of the longest (6.6km) circuits this season. It was T.Nogiec from CoRe Racing who took the pole position in his second flying lap with a time of 2:17.81. J.Lehikoinen from My3id Gaming 2 was the only one that also managed to get into the 17's, with a time of 2:17.90. Behind him it was J.Basford and N.Ðakovic from My3id Gaming who took the third and fourth place on the starting grid. P.Goik completed the top 5 with a time of 2:18.34, though he was one of the six drivers that would get a drive-through in the sprint race for missing the skinning deadline.
The sprint race of 7 laps started cleanly with only a few incidents in the back. T.Nogiec who started on pole position ran wide in turn 9 which gave J.Lehikoinen and J.Basford the opportunity to pass him a corner later. This was a crucial move in the race since the position didn't change after this. Which meant that the race was won by J.Lehikoinen followed by J.Basford and T.Nogiec. J.Holmes from ineX Racing finished fourth after passing both N.Ðakovic; and P.Goik who lost time fighting each other. T.Iivonen finished 5th after starting from 10th position, he gained the most positions in the first few laps of the race.
The main race with reversed grid started with J.Villa on pole after finishing 10th in the sprint race, K.Leu from Concept Racing started second with S.Anttonen from Drunk Team 1 behind him. The first lap was very intense with lots of close racing. In the second lap of the race T.Nogiec placed an attack on the inside of J.Lehikoinen, which unfortunately ended in a collission. They both lost a few positions and suffered damage from the incident, which made J.Lehikoinen retire from the race a lap later. T.Nogiec retired from the race in lap 9 when he suffered technical issues. In the meantime it was J.Basford that took the lead after passing multiple cars. N.Ðakovic was driving in second after he overtook J.Villa in lap 9. K.Leu pitted in lap 12 to get a clean track in front of him. It seemed to pay off when he came into 3rd position on lap 21 when other drivers had to make their mandatory pit-stops. After an intense race it was team My3id Gaming that took a double with J.Basford winning the race and N.Ðakovic in second. K.Leu took the 3rd position closely followed by P.Goik, who drove a great race starting from 23rd. J.Holmes completed the top 5 taking the fifth position.
J.Basford takes over the championship lead after scoring 32 points this round and the DNF of T.Nogiec, who's now 9 points behind him. J.Holmes takes the 3rd spot with a total of 35 points. My3id Gaming is now leading the team championship with ineX Racing and CoRe Racing behind them.
