AWS 2022 - Round 3
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2022
Round 3

Monday,17th January
18:30 UTC / 19:30 CET / 20:30 EET

Westhill Street Cup is a permanent round in AWS schedule since 2017 and has always featured RB4 racing around different areas of Westhill's support roads. This year is not different and as always will use a different racetrack - this year it's a 3.8 kilometers course layed out on western side of the environment, featuring a long and wide straight behind the original garages and braking zone to a very tricky hairpin, that has both elevation and surface changes. 2nd sector has a relativelly narrow section, where passing is considered rather impossible while rest is at least 2 lanes wide. The roundabout in 3rd sector is allowed to pass on both sides, but the left side is a bit shorter and the correct choice for better laptime.

First 2 rounds marked a possible duel for championship between defending champion and tied winningest driver of the league, but surely some other drivers still might have some arguments. With 5 rounds ahead in series, anyone can still apply for any of the titles, for newcomers the RB4 Master award is the best chance to put themselves in the history of the league - it's the 1st round for this award, which will be presented for the last time! (series future plans are to use more different cars, most likely each car just once per season)

Westhill Street Cup also this year brought a tough challenge - racing through West Street Course layout was intense and required some patience if one wanted to overtake as the track did not gave many opportunities. But what it gave were plenty of areas to make a mistake and with it probably even lose position to someone closely following. As always on Westhill's support roads tracks, tyres were not such big issue for the tyre heavy RB4,but still required slight pace/durability balancing.

2 weeks after tying for the winningest driver in league history,V.Laguckas took this honor to himself only - without any serious competition the lithuanian dominated this AWS round by leading all 18 laps of the race and taking all 22 championship points from it. Only his countryman Dzidoris was able to stay within 1 second per lap - both in qualifying and race as he finished 15 seconds behind winner in 18 laps race,so he had the best position to see his tied honor being taken away - he's now just 2nd winningest driver of the league. For the 2nd race in row Unite kinda earned the "best of the rest" title - he finished 3rd behind 2 leaders, just this time he had to advance few positions as he started just from 4th row.

With defending champion being absent from this round, the situation in table slightly lost intrigue as V.Laguckas has now a commanding 16 points lead, but that's still not enough to sit back and just finish "safe" 2nd for remaining 4 rounds - the big gamechanger round is up next. Dzidoris climbed up to his well known 2nd place in standings,7 points ahead of R.Kardol in 3rd place. V.Laguckas also leads the RB4 Master standings after 1st of 2 rounds for this award,he's 5 points ahead of Dzidoris,Unite is 3rd with 7 points gap.

Also Rookie of the Year standings has a distinctive leader after 3 rounds - Thehemuli leads by 14 points over Silva, who raced only in 1st round.

With V.Laguckas win and Sobis' 4th place finish their team LLM increased it's lead in teams standings to 22 points over S1dus,RGA is close 3rd with just 2 points gap from 2nd place. However in nations standings Lithuania now took a huge step towards their 6th title in row - they scored all possible 39 points and are 28 points ahead of Finland, obviously the only challenger for Nations Cup this year. Netherlands is 3rd,already with 65 points gap to leaders.

Next round is the 11th edition of Winter 200 - the classic 280+km/h race at Kyoto's Oval with FXR,that has been held unchanged through all these years. It's a race which is based on teamwork as every driver left alone is practically uncompetitive cruiser hoping for some positions advance in case of incidents ahead. 10 previous runnings of this race gave 10 different winners, which proves how unpredictable this round can be. This will be the middle round for the whole series and also 2nd of 3 FXR Master rounds and 1st of 2 Oval Trophy rounds.
