AWS 2020 - Round 5
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2020
Round 5

Sunday,8th March
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

It is time to truly "Live" for speed - the final round of the AWS 2020 will be run on the fastest AWD configuration that is possible in LFS. After 8 years of AWS and 8 Winter 200 races there are 8 different winners - no driver has managed to win this race twice and this sunday only one driver can break this trend and it is the defending winner of this round. Oval racing with high grip cars in LFS is known for team effort - driver alone is slower than an effective draft cooperation with others, but it does not mean no skill is required even if the drivers are standing on throttle for most of the 200 kilometers.

As always in RGE's oval events there will be hotlap qualifying where drivers will be alone on track. The running order of qualifying will be decided from Drivers Championship standings - lowest placed drivers will start qualifying while standings leader will take his run last. Everyone will have to run 3 laps - outlap and 2 timed hotlaps, after which driver should spectate, only fastest lap counts of course. 2nd timed lap is optional - theoretically cars are faster in 2nd lap,but in case of a mistake, driver can spectate without finishing 2nd timed lap.

As usual,to avoid many questions,Race Green Events' statement about bumpdrafting:
"With closed wheels cars it is not forbidden, but in case of any reported incidents it will be treated as intentional contact,so everyone has to make sure that he knows what he is doing!"

10 points before the final race is a healthy gap for less stress in the race for the table leader, but still - surprises might happen and at the speeds exceeding 260 km/h they can happend very sudden. While the fight for drivers championship might seem somewhat decided,3rd place in standings is widely open, while FXR Master and Oval Trophy standings have a points tie. Also Nations cup is still to be decided as between 2 top nations there is just 2 points gap.

During 9 years of AWS history, this is the only round that has been left unchanged from beginning - the 200 kilometers race around Kyoto oval with FXR. After a break it's back at the tale end of season as the deciding race. About all the decisions later at seperate post, first let's look at the race itself. Standings leader Botsi was the fastest on empty track in qualifying, but seems like he lacked experience in cooperation - from the start there was a group of 5 cars trying to break away, but due contacts it was splitted very soon. 2 lithuanian drivers run away from the rest and were never caught while chasing pack was trying to settle in best groups - Dzidoris and Trespasser found a good rhythm and pulled away from competition leaving the race decision between themselves. In the final dash to finish line Trespasser settled in behind his countryman for a slingshot pass on start finish straight and scored also the 2nd oval win this year. Meanwhile Rony dropped his drafting buddy Jay on the way to finish 3rd,while Jay was caught and passed by J.A.Katila,who also set the fastest lap of the race, and Botsi, for whom the 5th position was good enough for title clinch.

Full season recap and final standings will be posted this weekend (very likely).
