AWS 2020 - Round 4
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2020
Round 4

Sunday,23rd February
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

Racing on Westhill's support roads has been a part of AWS schedule since 2017 and this year will continue the tradition, but as always offering different track for a challenge. This year it is "Central Road Course 3" which consists of few faster sections and some quite slow turns. Breaking zone for turn one (the roundabout) is very tricky and can cause problems, especially with competiton around you. As always - RB4 has less tyre overheating problems on this kind of circuits when compared to standard configurations, that is due lower overall speeds.

After the middle round table leader Botsi has a healty 12 points advantage over competition. A good points gain over closest rivals might even secure the title for him with 1 round to spare. But any incidents might turn the situation in opposite direction,so it is too early to order the champagne. This will be the final round for RB4 Master award - the current points tie between Trespasser and Unite has to be broken while overall championship leader might wish to turn things around for himself. Also this will be the final round where new entries can still put themselves into series results table - in final round only drivers who have scored at least 1 point so far will be allowed to participate. Signups will be closed 10 minutes before start of qualifying and won't open for this season anymore.

The Westhill Street Cup has become a regular round in the AWS schedule offering racing with street legal AWD sports coupe on public roads - a challenge you cannot get anywhere normally. Of course the 2 lanes wide temporary circuit did not gave a lot of place to stretch out, limiting also overtaking opportunities, but many proved it can be done by advancing by 5 and even 6 positions during the race. However if the pace is very similar and drivers barely make any mistakes, the way to pass car ahead is very narrow and mostly too short. Race results proved it as top6 drivers on grid finished in the exact order with exception of 4th place starter's retirement. Also in the 4th year of this round, the winner's trophy is travelling to Lithuania,it's just a different driver this year - Dzidoris makes 2 wins in row this season by winning this race and doing so from pole position. Just over half a second away is the standings leader Botsi - he even set the fastest lap of the race during his chase for lead, but the pace was not enough better to pass for lead. Upsas made his AWS debuth this round and celebrated it with 3rd place finish.

With series standings leader finishing behind his main rival the situation in table has become more interesting as before the round. Botsi now has 10 points lead over Dzidoris before final round at Kyoto, meaning Botsi requires a top6 finish to secure the title at any scenario, lower position would be enough if Dzidoris does not pick all possible 17 points. In case of a points tie,all scenarios end in favour of Dzidoris as he has 2 wins against Botsi's one. There are no other candidates for champion title left - best of the rest currently is Rony in 3rd position,27 points off leader - all the remaining position battles will happen for 3rd position and below and a lot of movement in table will happen as between 3rd and 9th position gap is 8 points.

Meanwhile standings leader Botsi has already secured one award before final round - Rookie of the Year. Closest rival for this award Trespasser is already 30 points behind with just 17 up for grabs (plus possible 1 lost point due not attending last round).

The 4th round was the final round for RB4 Master award - funny that points tie between Trespasser and Unite was broken and the standings ended with points tie between Botsi and Unite, where the latter one lost the tie due worse 2nd best finishing position. Trespasser scored only 1 point in this round and ended 3rd in standings with points tie with winner of this round Dzidoris.

Teams championship is now practically decided in favour of the hosting team Race Green Autosports - they have 32 points advantage over Team S1dus with only 30 points up for grabs, allthough in oval theoretically the chance of more points is much higher than in any other track as repeating fastest lap in both qualifying and race sessions also rewards with a point. Then again S1dus requires 2nd driver for any chances at all while RGA may not score a single point. WCL is now 3rd within striking distance to 2nd position, but the chances are just a bit higher than S1dus championship hopes. Nations Cup is currently the most intriguing championship - the challenger Finland is just 2 points ahead of defending 3-time champions Lithuania, the amount of possible scenarios is way too big to count up here. 3rd in nations standings currently is Hungary,60 points behind leaders.

In final round a total of 4 titles are still to be decided, besides the mentioned above there are other points ties to break - in both FXR Master (Botsi vs Dzidoris) and Oval trophy (Trespasser vs Unite),while the rest of drivers have still the chance of putting themselves in history books as AWS round winner - this should make the final round at Kyoto ring more interesting and unpredictible as ever. A total of 26 drivers have qualified themselves for season finale by scoring at least one point towards championship standings - this has a potential of interesting tactics and cooperations, the highspeed oval of Kyoto requires help of other fellow racers to be fast in race!
