AWS 2020 - Round 3
All-wheel-drive Winter Series 2020
Round 3

Sunday,9th February
19:00 UTC / 20:00 CET / 21:00 EET

For the 2nd round in row and also for the last time this season AWS will be running on not fully paved racetrack - it's time for the AWS origins race, which brings the chance to use the all wheel driven FXR on rallycross course. Even without any grooves in it's tyres,FXR handles well enough on gravel and the 490 HP engine delivers the rest needed to break 1 minute mark around 1.8 kilometers lap. Setting up the car and finding a good line around the unpaved turns are the main elements of success here.

After 2 rounds of 5,Botsi has a healthy lead over competition, but this very different round has a potential to change course of any predictions. One of the smaller awards will be decided in this round - Cross Challenge award is currently led by winner of previous round Trespasser, but his gap over closest rival is literally zero as he leads the table just on tiebreaker. Also both teams and nations standings might get closer to desision or more twisted up - the middle round of overall championship is the one that makes or breaks the chances!

As always Blackwood RXGP was an exhausting race - both menthally and for those using rather high FFB value also physically. Constant sliding through turns and correcting car's direction while searching for the best way to direct car's mass to desired direction with low grip levels was a great workout in this 40 minutes race. Experience is an important boost to success - the defending 2-time winner Dzidoris proved his skills once again and took unchallenged victory by picking up all possible 17 points towards standings. Standings leader Botsi started from outside of 3-wide front row, settled in "his" 3rd place during first couple laps, but then found a way past 2nd place driver and kept the position until finish. The defending series champion Sobis joined later than most and was able to set just 8th fastest laptime in qualifying, but advanced through field to finish 3rd - value of experience proved once again.

Again none of the closest rivals finished ahead of standings leader Botsi,so he keeps the trend of increasing his advantage in series table - he is now 12 points ahead of Dzidoris,Mandula dropped down to 3rd and is 15 points behind leader with 2 very close followers. Defending champion Sobis climbed up to 7th position,21 points behind. In rookie of the year standings Botsi has 16 points advantage over Ngottini, which means he can already wrap up this title in next round.

This was also the 2nd and final round towards Cross Challenge award - Trespasser's points tie opponent did not attend this round, meaning he had actual 4 points advantage. That was minimized to the minimum - Trespasser finished 4th in the round, which was enough to keep 1 point gap alive and secure the award. Botsi is 2nd in this minor standings table,Sobis - 3rd. If the points tie was broken in one award,it was created in another - after 2 of 3 FXR Master rounds Botsi leads Dzidoris only by tiebreaker of 2nd best qualifying position - 3rd round for this award will take place in the Kyoto oval,in majority of possible scenarios the driver finishing higher then his opponent will clinch the award.

Race Green Autosports drivers finished 1st and 6th in this round and scored almost twice the amount of points than 2nd best - another big step towards 5th teams title. RGA now leads over single driver team S1dus by 23 points,Teho is 3rd with 39 points gap to leaders. Nations cup however is starting to look interesting - 3-time defending champions Lithuania deleted more than a half of Finland's lead and is now just 5 points behind. Hungary is 3rd and has scored exactly half of Finland's points during 3 rounds.

2 more rounds left in 2020 AWS schedule - in 2 weeks round 4 will bring racers to support roads of Westhill, where Westhill Street Cup will take place. It will be run with RB4 on a 3.55 kilometers long temporary circuit, which for most distance is just 2 lanes wide with very low opportunities to extend the width by cutting over curbs. Track does not feature very good overtaking spots,so qualifying will be important!
