Graphics Progress Report: Blackwood
Hello Racers,

We have been working on graphics most of the time since early 2017 and we can now show you some of the results. You will instantly notice the the new detailed shadows and shine on the road surfaces. Looking around, you will start to see that many more surfaces have some sort of shine level.

In this update we will show you some pictures of Blackwood. As a track that was recently updated, it didn't need many changes other than new textures and settings for the new lighting system. Some other tracks have had more extensive updates and we plan to show you some of those in a few weeks.

Read the whole report and see more screenshots on the Graphics Progress Report: Blackwood page.

It was worth the wait! I especially love the 'ambient component' image, it gives Blackwood a kind of "moody" atmosphere.
The new shadowsystem looks amazing.
I like the new dragstrip area aswell.

Cant wait to see the rest of the updated tracks.

Job well done Devs Thumbs up

Frigging awesome, can't wait for update Smile
Looks awesome!!! Also after seeing the updates to Dragstrip I am so impatient to see how other tracks were updated Smile
Looks incredible, well done!
Superb work devs, clean and sharp looking graphics is how to make a sim look realistic.

Hopefully we'll get our hand on it by the end of this year.
Some comparisons

Drag the slider side to side to move the join
Lighting direction has changed for some tracks, so a little hard to compare

Has Aston got a new Z-height baseline?

Superb @Degats Thumbs up
Nice job with the comparisons. Smile

Yes, Aston has been raised to fix the area that was below sea level. I think it is 2 metres, so to make accurate comparison shots you can subtract 131072 from the Z coordinate (3rd number) in the /cp line.
Nice comparisons Mo, I like how Eric's updated the Rockingham sausage kerbs. I made that comment last year at the BTCC Smile
Wow!

Thanks LFS devs for these remarkable system

I've updated the source image, so it should fit now (web caches permitting)

Edit: looks like the image is being cached fairly aggressively, here's an updated verison:

Bloody hell, this looks awesome! Keep up the good work!
damn!
Well done Scawen and Eric Thumbs up

Really impressed with the revamped Autocross (and all improvements on other tracks btw, but Autocross really needed a fresh batch of triangles Big grin), I'm really looking forward to see Fern Bay and South City ! Big grin

So Scawen, your technical description is still a bit vague for me.. you used a specular workflow right ? I can't see any metallic surface on theses screenshots, does Eric has a control on the specular color per pixel ? Uhmm

And looking at the road, I don't really know if your specular factor is normalized depending on the specular power, or if it's up to Eric to tweak it. I suggest you check this out if you haven't seen it already: https://seblagarde.wordpress.com/2011/08/17/hello-world/ Smile

In all cases, I know I have to look at your BRDF once the update is released Big grin

Oh and I remember you talked about exponential fog one day, is implemented or still on your backlog ? Smile
These looks really amazing. But i had hoped that South City gets also an Update Frown

Scawen has mentioned that all of the current tracks will need at least a basic level of remodelling. There have already been photos posted of new SO lighting (specifically, shadows) but so far no remodelling. I'm confident it's on their to do list though.
