err 2 x 512= 1024= 1 Gb ram.

So you wont have 4 gb of ram,if you add 2 1 gb ram modules....... you'll have 3 GB ram.

on the mobo:2 ddr2 slots and 2 ddr slots
ddr2 slots will have a 2gig ram thingy each, is 4 gig for that
the ddr slots will have a 512 ram thingy each is 1 gig
4 gig + 1 gig = 5 gig
fixed the typo
...you can't run DDR1/2 at the same time.

Get rid of the slow old RAM, imo 4 GB is complete overkill for you, and i'd get 2 GB of PC8500 and a better GFX card.

Get quicker RAM, i can garantee NOTHING you do need 5 GB.

Of course i think buying that mobo/cpu/ram/GFX combo is bad, but if you want it do it...

Of course, if it were my cash i'd get a Gigabyte DS3R/Q6600/GeIL PC6400 2 GB/8800GTS320...

I'm looking for something new too. I think i wait for the C2D 6750 from Intel.

I now play on:
XP 2000+
Radeon 9500
256 Mb ram
380 GB diskspace.

The original system is 7 years old, but i've upgraded it a few times. I have 512 extra memory but it won't work in this pc, so i want something new LFS still runs ok on it though.

That looks really nice Demon! How difficult was your G25 conversion, and how do you run that many buttons off of it?
The button part was easy, I had a old Microsoft SideWinder Precision Racing Wheel (no FF). It had 8 buttons on the front of the wheel, I just took the electronics out and put it in my G25.
For the rest, I'm so lucky I can use a metalworkshop when I need it.
So I made a aluminium spacer and Button plate.
When you don't have acces to a workshop it is still possible, only it won't be as solid and nice looking as this one.

Also if he chooses Win XP 32-bit, only 2.75gb of ram will show up. You need a 64-bit OS (XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit) to show and utilize your all your memory above 2.75 gb. I bought 4gb simply for the fact that I do a lot of intensive graphics with applications that become memory hungry the longer I work. And using XP 64-bit which works great. In comparison from 2gb to 4gb, the difference is noticeably better with more memory obviously. But for typical gaming and such, 2gb is fine.
XP 32-bit (and Vista) supports 4 GB of Memory Minus Stuff like Cache, GFX memory etc usually giving you 3.5 GB of RAM
Quote from Jakg :XP 32-bit (and Vista) supports 4 GB of Memory Minus Stuff like Cache, GFX memory etc usually giving you 3.5 GB of RAM

No they don't!

Trust me, you need 64-bit OS for anythign above 2.75gb. Been there done that. If you run 32-bit, the OS will ONLY recognize 2.75gb, and not use all your memory address space.

There is only a hack out there for the Boot.ini which will get your measely 32-bit OS to get to 3gb and that is it. Nothing higher.

XP is dated back to year 2001, when memory requirements were not nearly as high as 2 or 3gb, and never been updated since. 64-bit is only way to take advantage of using more memory. Something Microsoft is VERY far behind in because even a decent Apple computer can utilize 4gb minimum.
Erm, i've seen XP's running 3.5 GB when they have 4 GB of RAM, on XP 32 Bit, it depends on your hardware, but you'll never get to utilize all 4 GB because Windows allocated some of the other stuff in your system to use up for 4 GB "quota"

Better than this computer. This computer was mine before I got a new one. Took the parts out and put it in the new one, which fried and took all the good stuff with it.

Was a 1.4GHZ Celeron, 768MB RAM, GeForce 5200FX 128MB, 40GB HD. At the time, it was a pretty smokin' "budget" machine. Now its a piece of crap.

Most Apples can only Recognise 3GB, bar the Mac Pro, which can Recognise 16 GB.

Server 2003 can utilize 16 GB on a 32-bit architecture...
