Demon's Souls - PS3
Anyone else play this?.

OMG, this game sells the PS3 for me, I've had my PS3 for nearly 2 years, and I've hardly played it, untill now.

This game is just bloody awesome.
I've heard good things about it and it's mental difficulty but I wasn't convinced enough to actually fork out for it. Would like to give it a shot though.

Right now it's PixelJunk Shooter and multiplayer Uncharted 2 that keeps dragging me back to PS3
Its not the "difficulty" per say thats hardcore about it, its the concequiences of dieing that makes it hardcore.

Because you lose all your "money" (souls) if you die, and have to return to the beginning of the stage, it makes dieing a REALLY big deal, there are no save points, checkpoints, or anyway to "save" the game, although it autosaves all the time, so you can leave the game and pick up where you left off.

Also, there is no way to pause the game, the game continues to run, even when you are in the menu / inventory / equipment screens

As such, its seriously tense and foreboding, you really, really have to think tactically about each fight, and the sound effects and graphics just really pile on the atmosphere.

The "multiplayer" side of it is really well done and unique.

All in all well worth the price of importing it, I got a Chinese/ENG version off ebay for under £40.

In a nutshell, yeah, but the guy is obviously a gay
He's great!
His "reviews" are a bit hit and miss but most of the time he's brilliant. I do think he picks on the smallest flaws in some games, he can't hate the industry all that much if he keeps coming back to review more

Quote :Demon’s Souls is a game that will make you into a man. A scrawny fourteen-year-old, after two hours with this game, will be grooming his muttonchops and ready to ship off on the next boat to fight the Kaiser. If you are already a man, it will make you into some sort of bizarre double-man. What’s that you say? You’re a woman? You don’t want to be a man? Too bad. Too bad. That’s the Demon’s Souls way.

You’ve probably heard that Demon’s Souls is hard. Pshh. Lots of games are hard. Some are even harder than this one. The difficulty is not the point. What sets Demon's Souls apart is the way that it doesn't just kill you, but also stomps on your genitals when you’re down. And it will make you realize that that’s what you needed all along.

It’s a lot like life. Sometimes in life you win, and sometimes the giant armored skeleton stabs your face off because the flying mantis monster you didn’t even see shot you in the back with a spike at just the wrong time. And when that happens in life, do you respawn at the same spot and carry on like nothing happened? NO, ****. You go back to the beginning of the level, leaving all your hard-earned souls out there on the pavement, and you fight your way back. And you learn a lesson from the whole thing, because you should have been wearing your Thief’s Ring, now shouldn’t you? That’s life.

The trend in hard games these days is to unlock “Easy” mode for you once you’ve died enough times. Do you think Demon’s Souls does that? Do you think Demon’s Souls is so much as aware of the concept of “Easy” mode? NO IT IS NOT. If Demon’s Souls even knew we were talking about “Easy” mode, it would come over here and kick the shit out of all of us. And we would deserve it.

I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because **** you is why.

Have I told you about the online elements? At any time when you’re in Body form, another player from anywhere else in the world can invade your game and murder you to regain his own body, or just to keep you on your toes. This happens when you’re in the middle of fighting armies of unthinkable monsters that are probably already three-quarters of the way towards killing you. And no, you cannot opt out of this feature! This is what you signed up for when you agreed to be a man.

When this happened to me -- when a guy strolled into my game like it was Taco Bell and exploded my torso, costing me my body and all my progress in the level -- was I mad? No, because I was too busy being in awe at how ****ing hardcore the experience was.

Now, don’t let this dissuade you. Demon’s Souls is a pitiless master, but let it never be said that it is not fair. The game rewards handsomely those who stand up to it, and the greater the challenge, the greater the glory.

What the hell are you waiting for?

Heard all the best things for this game, sadly i never played RPG's in my life..
Srsly? You never played Final Fantasy, Oblivion, Fallout, Fable, WoW, Dragon Age, BioShock, System Shock 2, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo, Mass Effect, Ultima, etc? Many of those are first-person RPG's, but you get the idea.
Co-Op MP looks interesting

how are the controls with the DS3?

I couldn't get into MGS4 demo because of the bad control with the sticks. I'm a mouse/keyboard man with FPS or 3rd person games.
Thinking of getting a XIM (plenty on ebay) so I can use a mouse/keyboard on the PS3 via a PC to emulate a DS3. It works really well from what I've been told

Whoa....I really have never played any of those......might try fallout 3 though, most RPG are just too long for my free time available.

Blimey, you are missing out on some of the best gaming experiances there are
Fallout 3 = WIN.
Ordered it just now. I know i'll regret it, since i hate frustrating games, but meh... it looks so nice!
Its not really that frustrating.

Some pieces of advice.

1) Take it SLOWLY, its taken my the best part of 4 hours just to do level 1-1, you really don't want to go rushing in, you will die, a lot.

2) I'd suggest using the soldier class, you get a spear as default equipment, this keeps the enemies at a good distance.

3) Combat is very tactical, especially at the start of the game when you have very little health, block, use the roll and "step back".

4) Dieing in level 1-1 doesn't make any difference to the difficulty of the game, you can die 1000 times, and it won't make any difference, until you've completed that level, use level 1-1 as a training ground for combat.

5) Turn up the brightness, some parts are REALLY dark, and zombies jump out of the dark, alot.

I'm a bit worried about that part. I play on a big screen with a projector, and games are generally a bit darker on there compared to a normal screen (oh weel, might switch to the computer screen at the desk then, but sitting on the sofa in front of the big screen is much more relaxing).
Just turning the brightness level up in game will suffice, its only certain parts of it that are dark, and its only dark untill you get fully inside the dark parts, if you know what I mean.

I think they simulate the eyes iris changing from going to a light area into a dark area.
I see, sounds good then. Most games are fine when turning up the brightness/gamma settings. After all i've played well over 150 hours of Fallout on my big screen, and that game was quite dark in some areas aswell.

Looking forward to this!

That's what everyone keeps telling me I just don't know the reason why i never sat down and played RPG's..
I've never played any of those games either. Just not my kind of game
