Yes, developing games is like that, and LFS won't get away with it. Testing unearths bugs, and testing of the fixes for those bugs either lead you to discover more bugs created by the fix, or some that were missed in the first place. Which is exactly why corporations have QA departments
Hi scawen.

Thx for your post and for letting us know whats going on in the background.

I would love to see the work go faster, but thats because after playing lfs everything else in the market feels lame.

I have desperately tried to find other game that gives me the same feelings and sensations while waiting for the new patch but i failed

So i am going to wait for as long as needed because this kind of work is different from the usual stuff made by big companies and once you get hooked is like a drug... you will never be completely free of it.

Also, i know you don´t want to open the game to modding yet, buy after the physics are ok that would be a blast and could release you guys of the work of beeing asked for content again and again.

So please, keep working and keep the illusion.
Quote from Scawen :There is some misreading of my post going on. LFS development is not on the back burner, and I never said I don't like my work.

I said, I am working on the physics and I look forward to releasing it because of the excitement of it and I added that of course also it will be good for earnings!

To be entirely clear... since our "official" progress report we discovered bugs and further analysis showed other flaws in the tyre model. Further development of the tyre model and further analysis showed up more issues as well. This is that model which we think feels very nice to drive in most sutuations. I am not interested in "fudging" or "bodging" the tyre model and it takes time, research and thinking space to come to the right solutions.

Around Christmas and New Year, time spent with family and so on also causes some delays. I don't regret that.

My post was supposed to let you know what's going on, after dozens of people were complaining about a wall of silence, developers hiding under a rock and all that.

I hope you now have a better understanding of what I was saying. Some guys, please don't try to take the worst possible view of everything. Most people did understand!

People here just get nervous and do not let you work as you know , but they forget that they play the game as you do it and as the time you took it... just just close this topic, it has nothing more to discuss
Thanks for the report Scawen, and I hope you will improve LFS fast as possible.
Quote from Scawen :
Unfortunately the slow progress with the physics does delay the release of the Scirocco and Rockingham, but it can't really be helped.

Why not releasing them separately?
Quote from AndRand :Why not releasing them separately?

Because they want the Scirocco to feel like the real one with the new physics.

But that isn't a excuse when it comes to Rockingham, S3, GTR interiors, etc..

!

You shouldn't family always comes first!!!
That said is more then enough for me i know how big of a actual job it is to raise multiple child's.
The game comes 2nd to this the most important thing is for you to be a great father.

I just hope i get this wrong or you heve mistaken...
Quote from diNOSaur :I just hope i get this wrong or you heve mistaken...

please read more than one sentence
wow it is great to actually hear from the devs!

Any chance for a beta? we could help get through those bugs a lot quicker.
Quote from obsolum :Correct Why all these people are waiting for a track and a few cars I don't know, LFS will never catch up with the competition

While I respect your opinion, how can you possibly know? can you see into the future?
I hear iracing is getting a little better than it used to be, some of us don't want to take out a second mortgage to play it.
LFS still stands as "one of the best" racing simulators out there even now before this next update, plus the fact that its so simple and easy to install and set up, not like some of the others.

@ scawen, its a shame that every post you make is disected and twisted by the masses, but I suppose it shows how many people feel passionate about your project

What I fail to understand fully is the people who keep saying "lfs is dead" and "other sims are better" why are they still hanging around posting it over and over again for?

SD.

Because some sims are better in some aspects and I dont really dont see why community cannot discuss about things that could be incorporated (and some because of today's LFS model could be even better than those in other sims) and which shouldnt.
tried GTR2, tried R-factor, tried Gran-turismo, and on controller i tried Forza....none of them i have anywhere near the feeling i get when i play lfs, i cant get my car to stay on the track.

Oh yeah, i also tried Shift, but that was easily the worst, it just was wrong.....LFS is my home
these days i play Volvo-the game,with 100 % ai realism,tell you what,its frikkin good.
meh, its simbin, so it is nothing close to ultimate sim goal - to have effective and optimized for average PC simulation giving real life physics results. Scirocco urged this way of development.
The sim closest to that would enable next step: racing with real life ghost-cars from real life races.

Thats your idea of a 'next step' for racing sims ? I don't get it.

# You can't 'race with' ghost cars. All you would be doing is hotlapping, so all you need is a time to beat. To 'race with' a car/driver, it needs to react to you and you to it.
# If in the future some hypothetical sim managed to create a perfectly real physics (I know its not possible), then it would be easy for many to beat real life times for two reasons:
1) sim driver can drive in a style and with a setup that would be way too dangerous for a real driver.
2) real laps cost $$$ whereas sim laps are free, so testing and practice would enable sim drivers to get closer to the 'optimum' lap.

Well releasing betas for people is to make them find bugs. But scawen already knows the bugs, so he doesn't need to release a beta. I'm sure he just want's everything perfect when replacing a crucial part of the game
Thanks Scawen.

I think the one thing that we are all waiting for is a date, not like hour or minute cleare, but just aprox date, whene we could expect VWS or even whole s3,that could make our day!

Good luck developing and we are waiting for future reports soon!

No, the last release date for the Scirocco was seriously off, so I doubt they'll make that mistake again.

Well, actualy there is such game already: Real Time Racing , its now in betta and only beta testers can play it but i can say its nothing special, like Race 07 with other cars and ofc real time races with other real racers.
Well, we cannot do anything but wait then

I understand every work has funny parts and boring parts, going afeter software problems can be boring and exhausting. I hope you find solutions for them

But hey, if someday you feel like releasing a test patch... :P
Lets just be grateful that they are still making an effort.
I don't know why, but I have a feeling this might be the start of the finalization of this patch.

Anyway, as much as I'm eager to find out about the coming updates, I can also understand Scawen. Brilliant people like himself are always attracted (and distracted) to new ideas, projects and interests. He probably thinks about cool things to add to LFS every single day. The thing is just that it takes a lot longer to really materialize those ideas than to come up with them.

I still have a lot of faith in that more updates will come. The developers will never let all the work that has been done already go to waste!

Also I want to praise Scawen about being so open and truthful in his last few messages. I can imagine getting fed up and trying to ignore the trolls if I were him.

Best of luck to him.
